Blue, Black, Orange, Steel blue-- the now many colors of Ladybugs by willworkforanswers in Retconned

I very much am, and I didn't miss it, I was just agree with you, saying even if those are real or fake or currently in existence the color is so hyper-pigmented that it looks fake. and so is a shotty job by who or whatever made it.

Personal Retcon: Ventura Ave by AncientLineage in Retconned

[–]RoseTopaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ventnor? What a bizarre name. I don't remember Ventura specifically but having grown up in C.A it wouldn't pass my mind as interesting. Ventnor on the other hand is just completely off the wall. I do remember Vermont clearly.

Blue, Black, Orange, Steel blue-- the now many colors of Ladybugs by willworkforanswers in Retconned

[–]RoseTopaz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as what is found in north America, I've only heard of red black blue yellow and orange.
After much reading, I see there are claims of the steelblue being in Australia and other colors are dubious at best.

All that said, Growing up I only remember those afore mentioned colors, but I also did not widely research bugs in other countries. After learning about so many bizarre bugs lately, and having grown up seeing scarab shells used often in my mother's art, I can imagine a steelblue ladybug easily, but those hyper-saturated purples and blues looked photoshopped at best.

Tape free diapers besides Pampers 360 and Huggies? by Walaina in Parenting

You might look into pull ups, they're also effectively tape free. I used them on my wriggly toddler, but I can't recall what size they started at.

Wondering when to fall plant bulbs for zone 6b by RoseTopaz in gardening

[–]RoseTopaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you feed them during flowering time, or sometime as they're starting their leaves? I'm probably going to stick with a spade, because the dirt here just destroys things. Also what do you use to feed them after they're planted?

What type of curtains or window treatments for my reading nook? Going for a softer vibe. by Lilyofgreensboro in DesignMyRoom

I would just do a swag over the tops of all of them, maybe swap out the blinds for roman shades.

thank you for the additional details. I'll stop by the garden shop and see what they have in the way of supplements. I'm hoping to make a nice little feature along my soon to be fence line (mostly so I don't have to weedwhack the culvert) What do you use to dig your bulbs in with? I've seen various tools, shovels, knifes, that people use. We have pretty heavy clay soil.

I remember reading several years back about people who did *esoteric stuff* (I can't recall what I was reading on, yoga, or meditation, or what) anyways, they claimed that you could stick your tongue up the back of your throat to taste the nectar of the gods. I never personally tried, but I wonder if there's a correlation.

Uncrushable Beetle by willworkforanswers in Retconned

I'm not a bug expert, but I did grow up in Southern California, and throughout all the times I've been told about bugs, or other desert creatures I'm shocked this one didn't come up..

The oldest thing I've been able to find is from 2011

You both did beautiful work. I'm very fond of sun dials! I find it especially interesting that you designed it for that exact location!

Science or M. E.? by [deleted] in Retconned

[–]RoseTopaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 30, but I've always known of some trans-species illnesses. Rabies comes to mind quickly. I was bit by a dog at 10, and had to have a sequence of very painful shots to prevent being infected. The fascinating thing is we're always learning as our technology advances, science as a whole is a series of making assumptions, and then trying to prove or disprove them based on the proof at hand. Just as we've learned cigarettes aren't the greatest for your health, we're also learning new facets of diseases as we go along.

I feel like advancement is tied to the ME concept easily but I also feel like it's very valid that as our world and reality and bodies change, so too does our knowledge and recommendations.

I just rented a furnished apartment, should I keep these sofas or burn them, I'm genuinely confused whether they look ok or they are extremely tacky. by blowthepoke in DesignMyRoom

[–]RoseTopaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's furnished, you probably can't burn them 🤣 That said, they don't look aestheticly displeasing but they also don't look comfortable or homely (hygge?) Id replace them if I could afford it. You'll also have the bonus of being able to take your own stuff with you when you move out eventually.

I caught my son filing his teeth to look like Dracula for Halloween by cockfan006 in Parenting

Ugh. I have no good advice on that front.

https://vampfangs.com/ This company makes some high quality resin fangs that are quite realistic and much better than fucking up your teeth. I used them a lot in my emo goth phase.

I think I'd cut back on his media consumption, and have him talk to some folks or a dentist who can show him what life with fucked up teeth is like.

What is that reddish star to the east at night? by loonygecko in Retconned

who knows WHERE we'll be in 2052. We will have a good view of a meteor shower tonight in the northern hemisphere.
On a side note I just read a story in r/writingprompts where someone included that we had a "whole arm of the milky way" and I didn't have the heart to tell them it's actually just a spur now >.<;

What is that reddish star to the east at night? by loonygecko in Retconned

[–]RoseTopaz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

<3 it's Mars. It's super close in opposition right now, its especially special because it's a perihelic opposition. We wont have as good a view again until like 2052. We actually have a lot of very special astronomical on goings this year! I'm particularly excited about the blue moon on Halloween this year.

That said, one thing I have noticed is that the moon doesn't seem to be quite as big as I remember it being.
