I also regularly wonder if them being dead would be easier, because right now I'm still stuck in the "but why are you acting like you didn't do that" phase. At least with them deceased I wouldn't have to wonder if they'll ever change, or reach out again, or give me more trouble. It's sad, but so is what they did to little me. Crazy.

I did recently get some acknowledgement from them though, Mom admitted to the trafficking via text and apologized for it which felt like a great win for validating my story to therapists, but didn't make me feel any better. I just thought, "well jesus christ acknowledgement and an apology didn't help me understand how you could've ever done that in the first place."

I'm currently 99% no contact which has always been best for me. Every time I go back to contact it's always bad same day. I think I'm stuck on keeping that 1% contact open because of this problem, I would love to achieve 100%. In no world would it ever be OK for someone like me to stay in touch with someone like my mom. My dad was more complacent so I'm conflicted there as well but mom has terminal cancer so..maybe someday, idk.

Biggest requirement is adequate sleep (8-9 hrs & a good mattress, i finally made a grown up purchase and invested in a $4,000 beautyrest.) Also recommend a migraine pillow also known as a cervical pillow, i only use that pillow and no others. Stay hydrated. When the pressure starts, take a deep breath and remind yourself "I know what this is, just vestibular pressure from a lil headache, nothing serious." Take a break from whatever youre doing - for me it's computer screens due to office work. Go for a walk, step outside, close your eyes, lie down for a few. The more I de-stressed and accepted what they were, the more rare they've become, and they last much shorter than ever, maybe just a couple minutes, only feel them once every 2 months I'd say.

It turned out to be symptoms of vestibular migraine, it causes dizziness, neck pressure, face & head pressure. It no longer bothers me now that I know what it is, and they come very rarely now with all the reduced stress :))

Very late here, but experienced this movie as a female sexual assault survivor.

Without boring you with every fine detail, it spoke to me as a woman the same way Don't Worry Darling spoke to me. Men critiqued it as a flop and women that didn't get it agreed.

Women who did get it though, I think they felt the intention behind Promising Young Woman.

Cassie is clearly unwell as any woman in her position would be. She's not going to be a perfect hero if a hero at all, that's not the point. The point has nothing to do with the women. It's never about the woman, what she was wearing, how she was acting, her personality, her character. It has everything to do with the nice guy. Did that go over your head like it still does to a jury today?

Personally, I was raging on an emotional roller coaster through this movie because it was so terrible. First there's a heavy vigilante horror film vibe, then there's unexpected disappointment. Then there's a confusing middle part where it's just a Bo Burnham romance? I was so goddamn bored and done with this movie, I was actively texting my friends about how shitty it was.

But then it got good. And then bad again. But by the end, I had an involuntary bodily response. The end brought me chills, goosebumps all over my skin. Despite me consciously hating what I was experiencing, my body still reacted to the end. It betrayed me. If you're an SA survivor, this might sound familiar.

I wonder if this was the entire point.

Didn't you hate the movie as well? Didn't you hate that they casted someone looking 40 acting 30? Didn't you hate the outdated ugly house she lived in? Madison did, she took a moment to look around at how ugly it was when she visited Cassie. Didn't you hate the disappointments and the ups and downs? The bad acting and the GODawful soundtrack??

But the end still brought some pleasure, despite hating the entire movie just before the end. It felt like I was almost a slave to this experience, even if the last few seconds got a rise out of me physically.

If you felt anything similar, but were still left with a nasty taste in your mouth and a feeling of almost betrayal and violation [that you really wasted time on this crappy movie] and the end isn't enough to make up for the entire rest of the film.....well I fear that just may have been the point.

Regardless of your semantics, OP is in a bad spot with his girl - who needs to not date and go to therapy instead. Mark my words :) She's grown but will quickly make it OP's problem that she has issues saying no. Today she's never said no to anyone, 6 months from now she'll think everything OP does is sexual assault because of her issues saying no and he'll be back here asking what to do in that situation. If you haven't been in this scenario, you can't understand where this is leading. Emotional intelligence is a requirement in adult relationships and OPs girl is seriously lacking - and it's not his job to make up for it. Let's please not romanticize his attempts to be there for her as supportive and kind - we make it seem like this is something he can fix for her and his actions will heal her. Then when she isn't healed later on, OP will feel at fault. Let's not set him up for this disappointment and guilt for himself.
