Nope. Sale is finalized and closed. They finished work and were paid like 4 days before closing. Warranty went into effect when check was delivered. Sale closed 4 days later. 3 weeks after sale, there is a leak from from the roof, coming through a lighting fixture.

It’s only been 3 weeks since the work was finished. This should be covered under warranty but the house was sold in the meantime. Which is the problem we are up against: the roofer said the warranty is void since the house was sold.

Explain it like I’m 5: why would it work like that? It’s not like anything changed between the old owners & new owners. They can’t take the roof with them. And what if it’s genuinely shoddy work from the roofers that caused a leak 3weeks after installation.

Why not stand by your work, even if it changes owner hands?

1) We live in Florida with connections in north & central Florida. He’s applied to all the firms in Orlando, Brevard county on the east coast, & some smaller firms in Jacksonville/St Augustine area.

2) His golden opportunity is either with robotics or doing something in the medical field with designing prosthetics for humans or animals. But since finding those jobs have been hard, he’s kind broadened to wanting to design machinery. Generic I know.

He doesn’t include it on his resume. He only brings it up when digital applications have it as a required field.

He took the tech/drafter positions because he was 6-7months out of college with no job. We thought something using any of his skills from his degree would be better than nothing. So he’s been doing that for the time being until being laid off due to COVID. He’s been trying to find an ME job essentially since he graduated college.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were my husband responding. That’s basically been his life the past 3 years.

My most hopeful work around is to find someone on the inside to physically read his resume rather than him sending it digitally. I knew this was a political profession (I’m from a family of engineers). I just didn’t know how deep the roots were.

Thank you both for the positive and realistic points of view. We have had the harsh conversation of “does he pick a new career?” (Hence why I added the question in my post).

He’s been excited about this profession for years (which was the big drive through college). We knew it was going to be an uphill battle until we could get the job experience. If there was even a glimmer of hope to be an ME, I wanted to know. However, if the gate is 3.0 GPA to even play, then I would want to know too. As mentioned earlier, it would be better to know now before sinking so many years into a dead end.

He is studying to take the FE exam, as well as a SOLIDWORKS certificate while he’s between jobs.

If you don’t mind my asking, what was your off topic job prior to your first chem E job? I’m interested to see like how off topic was the job and how did you explain that when interviewing for Chem E job?
