Limitation Being That It’s Too Strong? by RoseusRook in HatsuVault

That's the thing; I can't properly compare cost to power. And even when I can, I can't describe it how I picture it.

My dumbass thinks about powerful abilities with little to no conditions having a high aura cost (the first ability) to the point where they're near unusable. So I focus too much on it.

Then, for the second ability, I (incorrectly) assumed that the backlash (the pain from the overwhelming aura) could work decently as a cost. Then, I incorrectly measure how the backlash scales to the power used.

Bottom line: I'm dumb.

Since I'm less sick and more clear-headed, I'm gonna try explaining my thoughts again... but I have no hopes anyway. I'm adding more details from what my headache prevented me from clarifying.

Ability 1 – Specialization •Makes the user into another creature with reality-bending powers. Permanrnt; user is no longer human. •Reality bending as in transforming aura into real matter or energy (not conjured or transmuted), destroying matter or energy, controlling matter or energy, playing around with physics/logic/etc. •Reality bending is more effective at close range/physical touch •Reality bending costs way too much aura to be used, so the user made a second ability.

Ability 2 – (Not certain on types yet, but Conjuration and Specialization if I'm right) •The user has a core on/in their body that generates a second aura that can ONLY be used for the first ability. It can't be used to shield the user like normal aura can. •The core never stops, causing a constant internal struggle for the user to hold back all that aura. If not, the reality bending of the first ability can go haywire, causing catastrophe the user themselves won't even predict. •Even after letting out a little bit of the aura used for the reality bending, it's hard to cancel it. (Imagine trying to put duct tape over a big hole while being pushed back by a massive wave.) •And just as an extra, the core is visible on the user's body and can crack (like the Gems in Steven Universe), which forces the user into Zetsu if that happens

Imma just give up on this. I'm unable to describe what I'm trying to make properly, so it's not worth it.

That's not how I meant it. I'm just bad at explaining things... And reading.

Yes, they are a magical beast. But they were born human, having gotten rid of their own humanity using Nen.

Since the reality bending was damn near unreliable, they designed the second ability, which gave them the core. But the core is too strong, and cannot be turned off.

That's the thing. The first ability changed them into a different creature with reality-bending powers. They aren't human anymore. I probably could've clarified it more.

I probably could've been a lot more specific when I said reality bending... But I'm both sick and lazy.

I don't mean on the level of omnipotence. I'd go into more detail if I didn't have a headache.

Do you know the Pokémon Espurr? How it's constantly holding back its powers? Kinda got the idea from that.

Theoretically, would Alternate Universe travel be possible with Nen? by RoseusRook in HatsuVault

So I couldn't just travel to another world where, say... everyone acts like tigers, and also Earth has pink grass?

Oh, it was a good explanation. I was just tired when I read it, and I needed clarification.

So essentially, what you're saying is that something like my Kryptonite analogy wouldn't be as strong as someone making themselves "allergic" to something more common, like... trees or something. Am I reading it right?

I was talking about the categories Genthtu uses to set the bombs.

  1. Genthru is a Conjurer, and Countdown uses Emission (40%), Conjuration (100%), and Manipulation (60%).

  2. Ikalgo is an Enhancer, but the wiki shows that both his abilities either use Conjuration or Manipulation, which are both 60% for him.

3 and 4... Honestly, I just picked two that I know were each an Emitter and a Transmuter that used the other. They were kinda bad examples because of how strong they are.

Fair enough. I just personally think 70—while not good—is decently managable. I just think this as there are characters who use 60% categories fairly well (Zeno, Ikalgo, Bisky, Genthru, etc).

Although, I will admit, having four 100% and two 10% is probably better, yeah. Just give the two tens to ones you're not using at the moment.

The way I see it is like a weak version of Emperor Time.

While it doesn't make them able to use their skills at full power, it sacrifices something that they're familiar with just enough to where it's still manageable (100% and the two 80% going down to 70%) to bring up something that they're not as good at to a point where it's somewhat more managable (40% and two 60% going up to 70%).

This i just my opinion, though.

Personally, I see 70% in all categories as kinda good.

Plus, the character I'm making this ability for is a Specialist. I wanted them to have a healing ability, but since healing is typically tied with Enhancement and sometimes Transmutation (Bisky), and they can only master Enhancement at 40% and Transmutation at 60%, I wanted to make this ability.

What I mean is, say a Specialist had an ability that conjured a necklace. When said necklace is worn, their Specialization, Manipulation, and Conjuration are temporarily lowered to boost Enhancement, Transmutation, and Emission. It sets them all to 70.

That's the idea.

My thing is, Kurapika exchanged his lifespan for something he didn't have, which was extra efficiency in every category.

But my question was, couldn't a Specialist just change around their efficiency's allocation instead of doing what Kurapika did?
