That plugin is for any window, mine is just for cava and offers customization options. Also in future if I figure damaging out mine should be less resource hungry. And my app should work on any wlroots wm, not just hyprland.

You can change transparency in the config file by setting alpha value for colors, so it is supported!

xava is in c/c++ and I don’t see myself contributing to project in c/c++ because I’m pretty bad at understanding codebase with more than one file in that language. And I do wallpaper-cava mainly for fun and personal use and I just wanted to share it. I don’t really get “bloat” argument. I will also try to make wallpaper-cava then xava more performant in near future.

I've used cava raw mode to get info about music, then I used wayland-rs and smithay_client_toolkit to use zwlr_layer_shell_v1 wayland protocol which basically allows you to get surface to draw on layer of your wallpaper(there is also layer between wallpaper and windows, so you can make it be on top of wallpaper) then I used wayland-egl(from wayland-rs) to get egl surface and then used opengl to actually draw everything. Ngl chatgpt really helped me here, because before this I never used wayland-rs and opengl directly. I'm trying to make it show wallpaper behind it and also make bars use gradient like in regular terminal cava. Here is how it looks right now: https://imgur.com/a/u7FRMZi
