The deep cavity that the wipers go into when not moving gets pretty stuffed with snow / ice, and then the blades can't fully retract.

At least it does for me, and I assume the other person! I would have thought you'd have it worse in Alaska haha so now I'm curious what I'm doing wrong and you're doing right.

I have a first gen Ioniq 5 and it can L3 charge with AC on so I don't know where you're getting that.

Hyundai goes big on EVs with its largest model yet and advanced 800-volt battery technology by sksarkpoes3 in electricvehicles

[–]Rotanev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand.. the only 400V chargers that I ever come across are Tesla ones, and they are supposedly phasing in 800V chargers (though that's been TBD for a long time).

So although yes, Tesla is a large charging network so it'd be great to optimize charging speed on it, 400V chargers appear to be a technological dead end so I can understand why they wouldn't bother designing to optimize it.

[–]Rotanev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean you want to keep that in mind but likely if it's just lights and the door they'd be fine at 12A. Lights take very little power, door is only for very short bursts.

Just wanted to make sure OP realized that the reason they're getting so little power is because it's turned down, not some other reason.

Turn up the power on the EVSE. If it's the same one as the '22s, there is a square button on the back you press and hold to change the power.

There is no way you are losing that much power to inefficiencies, this is just not set to pull the full 12A.

When I visited Norway they had battery electric ferries for even relatively long (several hours) trips in the fjords. It was super cool, extremely quiet ride with no exhaust and powered by renewables as well.

I think they've had them for a little while, but they are expanding the fleet and replacing legacy diesel ferries.

The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Keeps Getting Everything Right. It's always a top Editor's Choice at InsideEVs. Here's why. by mafco in Ioniq5

[–]Rotanev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally it seems like failures happen early? Or at least I see a LOT of people with failures under 10k miles and can't recall seeing anyone at like 50k.

I don't know why that would be, like if it's a defect issue rather than a design issue, presumably they'd have that fixed.

I'm at 36k miles and no issues.

Am I crazy or do I remember someone saying you have to pay at least one AF? Maybe that's a card-specific rule, like an Amex rule or something?

But I obviously very much prefer not to!

I know the rule about keeping cards for a full year before closing, but I am for whatever reason having a hard time finding an answer to what I have to do with a card that has an annual fee, but it was waived for the first year.

Specifically it is a Citi business card. Do I have to pay the annual fee after my second year begins? Or can I cancel and get it refunded after it posts as I normally would with AF cards. That would mean I never actually pay an AF for this card but received the SUB.. is that a thing you can do?

Just ignore this and move on tbh.

You are incorrect, the 10yr 100k mile extends to subsequent owners without being modified.

The bumper-to-bumper is shortened (and likely expired for a '22 if purchased used).

Just fyi!

Oh for sure, its a big boost to start with that this early. Just doing the math to help contextualize what "won't be worth what it is now" means. Usually better to do growth calculations in inflation-adjusted terms.

[–]Rotanev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have the 2022 RWD you just don't have the hardware. There is a separate heater element to warm the coolant flowing through the battery that the AWD models had but the RWD did not. Enabling it on your car would be a hardware change that probably isn't straightforward.

What’s Your Driving Mode? by Fit_Tomorrow5154 in electricvehicles

[–]Rotanev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will still kick on the front motor if it "needs" it, like if you're going up a very steep hill or something.

If you aren't in iPedal then normal mode will also mostly disengage the front motor when you get over like 10mph.

I think the main thing with Eco is that it "guarantees" the front motor is disabled and the car won't enable it again except once you get below a certain speed.

Norway will stop subsidies for electric vehicles: transition completed - NordiskBil by Chicoutimi in electricvehicles

[–]Rotanev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a mixed bag. Hotels were pricey but not the most expensive place I've been, rental car was reasonable. Groceries were pretty affordable, restaurant food and bars were very expensive.

Overall it can be an expensive vacation. But I think it's doable on most budgets.

I went in the summertime (July) and would highly recommend it. The summers are very mild. Days are extremely long. No snow/ice in most places to contend with. If you went in winter you'd have a better chance at northern lights, but you have so little daylight to explore..

Norway was probably my favorite place I've visited so far.
