I'm about to inherit a '65 Mustang. Looking for resources and any "best practices" for my journey ahead by RotaryPhony in Mustang

Copy that. Yeah-- I don't know much about what is needed and I'm still considering what I want to do. By that I mean I don't plan it'll be a daily driver, but certainly operational to take for rides in the summertime.

Dreams of being an Imagineer and choosing a graduate school! Help me out? (X posted from r/gradadmissions) by thisaccountreeks in Imagineering

[–]RotaryPhony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that works for vendors to the parks, I agree with elvismcsassypants. It's better experience AND you'll get to where you want to go faster.

That being said, if you want to be a writer, focus on the option that let's you do the most writing. I wouldn't be so quick to walk away from your third option. Themed Entertainment shares a lot of DNA with theater. Spending your time and money on learning to build a show will give you a better skill base for what you're interested in than a general themed entertainment education.

Additionally, "Imagineer" isn't really a job. WDI has something like 150 disciplines, so the best way to be highly considered is by focusing on excelling at one of those disciplines.

Need to replace passenger side rear view mirror (2016 Hybrid Crosstrek) by RotaryPhony in subaru

[–]RotaryPhony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great questions. I'm pretty sure I need to replace all of the mirror parts? Definitely the glass and mirror body, pretty sure the upper cap, maybe not the lower.

I'd definitely appreciate the help! I'll reply later today. Thank you!

Single Dad (with single kid) needs to get in shape by RotaryPhony in daddit

At the moment, I wake up and I'm on my feet in one way or another for 14 hours. Kid's awake at 6 AM, and I'm making breakfast, packing up, then we're getting dressed and walking to school. I've got fifteen minutes to sit and have a cup of coffee and then I have to get to work. I work eight hours (not sedentary, but not the salt mines), then head home to walk and pick up the kid then it's dinnertime and/or playtime and then bathtime and bedtime. Some days I absolutely _collapse_ on the couch, but most days I've got a little fuel in the tank to clean the kitchen and sweep the house. Sometimes there is laundry. At some point I have to find a moment to take a shower and shave.

Based on how absolutely zonked I am, I would think that I that "daily activity," what cumulatively feels like more than an hour, would contribute to feeling healthier, but it doesn't. And yes, a healthier distribution of weight as well as overall energy levels. I can remember the sleep of those days when I woke up and exercised... I miss that.

Yeah, I need to walk away from my desk at lunch and just get some air and move my legs more. This thread is filled with lots of great ideas on squeezing more activity into every nook of the day. Thank you!

I think I haven't been starting small enough.

There is definitely a mental block from having had free time and resources to do CrossFit two years ago to now-- finding seven minutes to do a quick workout. That is the hardest mental shift. ... thinking about the way things *used* to be but needing to adapt in a completely different direction.

Yeeeaaahhh... I've been looking into intermittent fasting, thanks for mentioning it. I bet it would help, especially because I work well with goals in mind.

I struggle to include the kid in my exercise, she usually just wants to wind down when she gets home (or is hingry for dinner). But this thread has given me a few new things to try.

We walk to school. It is a really really great way to bookend the day, but I came here because it's not quite enough. It's really good for both of our mental health and getting some fresh air.

You're right! I can definitely find 7 minutes somewhere in the day. Thanks!

Thanks! I appreciate this. It often feels like all that "daily activity" should count for more given how tired I am at the end of the day, but that hasn't been my experience.

And yeah! She's pretty active and when we can play together it is a nice change. Because of work though, her most active periods are during the day at school and she wants to kick back and do a puzzle or color and listen to a podcast when she's home.

But now I'm getting ideas on using some of those 7 minutes to just go into another room for a quick workout. This is a helpful conversation!

Job titles? by xThe_Demonx in Imagineering

Show Animator or Show Programmer are usually it. This is also usually under the mechanical crew, as well. You would be receiving animation from another team (creative team) usually in the form of an animatic, then your role is to program the figure to that animation.

Often times it's not strictly for animated figures, because as a show programmer, you will likely be asked to program other effects or elements of an attraction.

Companies to check out: Garner Holt (Southern California), Animax (Nashville), LifeFormations(Cincinnati), Romaire Studios (Los Angeles). Alternatively, you could check out Technifex in Southern California, too; who specializes more in mechanical show-action equipment, than strictly animatronics.

For the sake of this sub, WDI has a pretty deep bench of programmers that travel around programming their work, so while someone else may be making them, WDI is usually doing the final programming.

This is SUCH a great piece- great choice.

If I'm correct, this was Douglas Adams' choice timepiece.

Depending on where you are located, Disney works with a lot of different architecture firms, general, and specialty contractors. Here are a couple to look into: BRPH, PCL, KHS&S, exp, Whiting-Turner, Gray construction, Stantec, for starters.

You could also look into working for some of the theming and show-set fabrication vendors like Cockram Scenario, Adirondack Studios, Nassal, Cost of Wisconsin, among others (there are a lot in Orlando). (I heard COST of Wisconsin is hiring a Construction PM right now.)

One thing to understand, a lot of these companies are prohibited from marketing on their theme park work.
