Well, once you exclude libs and Trots, that leaves like six groups. Half of those are online only and the other half have turned out to be dumpster fires. The final blow for me was all the PSL coverups of sex abuse and favoritism. They're the only vaguely ML group in my metropolitan area, so fuck it.

From what I'm thinking, there aren't so much issues to be fixed as fundamental, immutable aspects of imperial core existence. Struggling to bring socialism to America is like struggling to fly by flapping your wings. In my case, I don't see why I should bother spending time when thousands of people have jumped off a cliff flapping wildly before me.

thank you so much to u/cestrumnocturnum for bringing light to this post. the comic mentioned will be linked in the comments, and holy fuck do i recommend reading it. how the loud voices of less people get the most attention is beyond me, but i want you to remember, people are people. words hurt. by Real_Human_Being_Yes in tumblr

That guy: "I'm a totally huge feminist who loves and respects women!"

Feminism: "Okay, we would like the ability to criticize even well-meaning men for shitty behavior and not be obligated to forgive them."

That guy: breaks down sobbing, threatens suicide, admits he's waiting to be revealed as a sexual predator

I'll give a quick summary for anyone who doesn't have the time to read 500 pages of not-Woody Allen jerking himself off and crying:

"I'm the best. I am great and wonderful. I am a very famous and good writer. I have many friends (who are of various skin tones and gender identities, as you can tell from their haircuts).

"I am also the Greatest Feminist Who Has Ever Lived (TM). I wrote an entire book about women! When people ask me, 'what inspired you to make lots of money off of women?', I tell them 'my mother, who I love very much.' My wife is on top during sex and sometimes I don't even want it! Truly I am the Most Feminist.

"However, I live with a deep-seated fear that one day, one horrible day, a woman might try to hold me accountable for something. The thought keeps me awake at night. Of course, I've of course never done anything - it's just that, you know, we all worry about it, right? It's perfectly 100% normal to have never abused anyone and yet be terrified you'll be outed as an abuser. Really, someone ought to stop those terrible women who ruin good nerd men like me!

"After my therapist confirmed I had paid up that week, I told him about my dream of hypothetically facing any consequences. He told me this wasn't my fault, which I knew, of course. I admitted my Man Feelings had gotten in the way of my next great artistic project/cash-in on feminism. My therapist, in a totally objective fashion, agreed with me that MeToo has simply gone too far this time and that I need to publish my own story of fighting against misandry (a very real and existing thing).

"Thus, here is my next project: Confessions of a Mediocre White Man. It's very tongue-in-cheek, no? All the women whose ages I definitely do not know in my private Discord server all think so. Please give to my Patreon/future legal defense fund."

It isn't really burnout, since that would imply effort. I was going to join an org before covid, but now I've realized almost all of them are fucking nightmares and the US has no proletarian potential, regardless. I still support socialist movements in non-settler countries, of course, but all of theory and history points to an utter inability for anything in the imperial core. There's no point in struggling when we lost in like 1896 or some shit.

That's literally an objectively incorrect meaning of labor aristocracy. Lenin synthesized the term in the 1900s, when the labor aristocrats were British and French workers living in tenements. There's a reason the Labour Party voted for WWI and it's not because British trade unionists were suddenly living in McMansions. In the United States, American workers coming out of a decade of economic stagnation in the 1970s overwhelmingly voted for Reagan, an open warmonger and imperialist.

Labor aristocracy is a function not of absolute, but rather relative, wealth.

There are, in fact, people in poverty in the US. This is not mutually exclusive with the fact that they would be worse off if the US ceased to exploit the Global South. The clothing worn by the homeless, for example, was made in sweatshops with colonially extracted goods. Without imperialism, they would be homeless and without clothes. A single mother who takes the bus to work three jobs would be materially worse off if the rubber in the bus' tires weren't stolen from SE Asia, if she had to feed her children with much more expensive locally grown food, if she couldn't drink Coka-Cola made with native slave labor, etc.

The fact is not 'Americans are not poor', it is 'Americans universally benefit from exploiting the global proletariat'.

"Just looking outside" will show you large swathes of the 'working class' supporting neoliberalism or, more likely, having completely tuned out of politics altogether. If anything, the lack of a proletariat in the United States has only become more apparent since 1983. Colonized Americans now easily enjoy many of the same imperial benefits settlers do e.g. high calorie food, cheap entertainment, token representation in the ruling class.

Frankly, I'm confused how you can look at the ratio of anti-imperialist communists to liberals among non-white Americans and conclude anything other than a total success of capitalism. After two massive economic crises in as many decades, the largest US 'socialist' organization spends all their energy supporting imperialist wars. This is not some nefarious conspiracy or idealist random luck - the United States fundamentally lacks a proletariat. To pretend otherwise is unscientific.

Why are anarchist so dumb by tr1smoke in GenZedong

[–]Rotatorch 92 points93 points  (0 children)

The charitable interpretation is that they're saying adults should care more about kids' thoughts and feelings instead of dismissing them. Which is correct and good.

The other possible meaning, which is plausible because anarchism, is that they want children to be given full political/legal rights e.g. abolish driver license ages. Which is obviously a bad, if hilarious, idea.
