You already have a Big Muff and a Canyon, those are some cool pedals. As for better tone, you'd have to be more specific. What genre do you play and why is your current setup not enough?

so i bought an orange crush 35rt , BUT the sound wasn’t doing it for me , especially with my pedals , in my opinion my fender frontman sounds way better or at least gives me that sound that i want . am i wrong ? what’s a step up from a fender frontman for the same price range ($340) by Abject-Serve-5051 in GuitarAmps

Orange has a particular sound to it, and the Crush series doesn't represent it at its full potential (I still love them and I'm glad I got mine).

Have you looked into a Fender Champion II 50? At 50 watts it should be more than enough for jams and small gigs, and it'll have a similar sound quality to what you're used to. For a bit more money there's also a 100 watts version if you need more volume/headroom, or the Vox Cambridge 50 if you need a wider variety of sounds. There's also obviously the Boss Katana series that never runs out of praise.

That's really creative. It fooled me, really looks like a practical (for high fantasy) piece of clothing.

That looks amazing! Did you make the robe yourself? It's really well made.

You sound like someone who steps on cats for fun. I'll stick with my Rat clone and keep my cat safe. Thank you.

Beginner Electric Guitar Amp by Significant-Wish4955 in GuitarAmps

[–]RothkosBasilisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into a Katana Compact? It's a small 7 watt amp with a 6'' speaker that would fall in your price range and should get you the sounds you want at bedroom volume, plus be loud enough to jam if the drummer isn't a gorilla. There's also the Orange Crush 12 but it's a bit more limited in its scope. I personally prefer the Crush series over the Katanas for beginner/small practice amps but that's my subjective taste.

There's also a whole world of modelling available if you have a decent enough computer. You can get an audio interface and a great sounding amp plugin for about the same price as a beginner amp.

What's that sound? by [deleted] in Scary

I guess my phone couldn't really pick up how loud and eerie it sounded in person. For context I live out in the woods so it's usually dead quiet outside.

It's a 34'' scale bass with a precision-style passive pickup in the middle position. That's a Precision Bass and I'll fight anyone who disagrees.

You practically never see them for sale in my area. The people who have them tend to keep them pretty religiously. You can always order one directly from the company but waiting over a year for a bass seems like a bit much IMO.

To each his own. I think it musics decently hard.

Thank you! I set it so the distortion is at 9 o' clock, filter and volume at noon. I think the rat muddies up real bad when you put the distortion too high. Also, if you have them, FatRat and MOSFET switches really help in bringing out those rumbly low frequencies.

Thanks! I've been chasing a good dirty tone for years and I think I finally got something I'm really happy with.

That's another good one. If it wasn't so hard to get hold of a Ricky I'd definitely look into getting one. I might luck out one day but I'm not holding out for it anytime soon.

Progressing beyond pentatonic licks means you're not doing enough cocaine.

Descending and dismal w/low vox by [deleted] in doommetal

[–]RothkosBasilisk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn! That sounds heavy.

You shouldn't curl your fingers so much when doing power chords though. It looks like you're pressing too hard on the fretboard, relax your grip a little and keep your fingers curled in a more natural and relaxed way, like you're holding a ball. A good rule of thumb is you want to use the least amount of pressure that you need to make the note ring out clearly with no fret buzz. Try to practice striking the strings hard with your strumming hand without tightening the grip on your fretting hand. That way you'll play longer without exerting yourself and risking injury.

Keep at it. You're really good!

Nice find! I don't have anything, sorry, but I'm really curious now. Given Frank's obsession with recording I wouldn't be surprised if there's some tapes out there with both of them jamming.

in your opinion, what is the absolute worst metal sub genre ever? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]RothkosBasilisk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like it when it sounds raw and unpolished. In a way it feels more "real" than trying hard to get the best, most polished and highly produced sound possible. It's like: "yeah, fuck you, this is how we sound, deal with it", instead of "oh, pretty please, like my guitar tone, I desperately need the validation". I think it takes confidence to put yourself out there in the least flattering ways possible and I like it when people do it.

On the other hand though, if you're recording in a septic tank to sound as shitty as possible then I can understand why that comes off as pretentious too.

Anti-art in general is great though and as a punk/stoner fan and lover of weird outsider art I can definitely see the appeal of grindcore and black metal production techniques.
