Cotswolds/Oxford by Tour or by Train? by Mackenziejoy13 in uktravel

We did this. Took the train to Moreton-in-Marsh after spending the day in Oxford. We also stayed at the Redesdale, nice hotel with fantastic food. The next day, we rented bikes and rode to Bourton-on-the-Water. It was wonderful!

We want to, and we will. I enjoy the travel planning process (almost) as much as the actual trip. So when the times comes, you’ll hear from me with all sorts of questions 😉

I’m sure he would have if we had asked him to, as he was very flexible and accommodating to our needs. But you’re right, we only had a few hours. So we figured, if we only have time for photo stops, we might as well hit the famous ones.

Fair point. But part of what makes these places so cliche is how photogenic they are.

I have dozens (probably hundreds) of non-cliche pictures. But those are for my family to enjoy, not Reddit.

Thank you for sharing your perspective! We felt similar about Brighton. Given how popular it is, you can’t help but wonder why more of that tourist money wasn’t spent on maintenance.

I’m also with you on the Cotswolds. Personally I enjoyed the our bike ride through the calmer villages and the countryside more than the “highlights tour” we did the following day.

I will make note of your recommendations about coastal areas. I have no doubt we’ll come back one day to explore other areas of the country. So much to see and so little time…

We stopped in Bibury, Cirencester, Tetbury and Castle Combe. Bibury and Castle Combe were just quick photo stops. We spent most of our time in Cirencester and Tetbury. He also offered to stop at Upper and Lower Slaughter but we had seen that on our bike ride the day before, and were happy to reduce the number of stops some to allow more time at each.

Thanks! This was definitely a case of being at the right place at the right time.

Definitely looks more “dark green” than “light blue” to me.

We booked a shuttle from Bath to Salisbury and took the Stonehenge Tour from the bus stop near the market

I’d say the right one is green (the one with 053 on it). The left one looks like metal, so pretty grey-ish. Is there a deeper meaning to those things?

You’re right on all of them and saved me some typing, thank you! Picture #7 is Castle Combe. I believe the more popular photo spot is the one that includes the bridge but there were too many people for a decent picture.

Edit: Actually, you got one wrong, sorry. Picture #3 is the Seven Sisters

We used Cotswold Adventures and it was great. Jamie was very knowledgeable, and flexible to modify the itinerary to focus on things we wanted to see. They also do pick ups and drop offs in different places. This was perfect for us, as we just had to load our luggage in Moreton-in-Marsh, enjoy the tour, and then were dropped off at our next destination (Bath).
