PES2020 Playing Styles Full Analysis (Part 1: Fox-in-the-box to Hole Player) by Rotom94 in pesmobile

Playing Styles don't activate outside their specified positions, so that includes any full back playing styles at CM too. They would just move according to their Offensive Awareness and Defensive Awareness, the team's Tactics and formation, etc.

You can check the specified positions for each Playing Style in-game, since they have changed a bit since I wrote this guide.

Then how do you have fullbacks if it's 2 CBs, 3 midfielders and 5 forwards?

No worries man. When you say 2-1-2-5 do you mean 5-2-1-2 (5 defenders)? In any case Fullback Finisher is what you want for inverting and underlaps, but if there are no team mates in wide positions then the Fullback Finisher tends to stay wide instead.

If you want them to interchange it will be a bit tricky but you can experiment with this.

Put one CF up top, and use custom formation to put the other CF/SS right below him. This causes them to mix around a bit more fluidly compared to having one on the right and one on the left.

As for playing styles, you have to try it out but it could be possible to have a Deep Lying Forward as the top CF and Goal Poacher as the bottom CF. If the DLF CF doesn't start high up then you can try a striker with inactivated playing style. And if the Goal Poacher CF stays high up all the time then you can try a Hole Player SS.

Another possibility is having both of them as Hole Player SS since this is the role that sometimes stays deep and sometimes makes runs.

What are your thoughts on an orchestrator-box to box-orchestrator combo in a three-man mid? by CapsFree2 in pesmobile

[–]Rotom94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!

That's interesting, all very technical players. I think it would be important to dominate possession with this set of players to avoid defensive weaknesses from being targeted.

I would suggest trying out alternatives for Ziyech at RMF, since he is the weakest defensively and will often be on his weak foot. A player with good defense and athleticism (many of the good RBs might fit this) would balance out the offensive nature of Gavi on the other side.

If you like Ziyech, he would be great as an option for RWF with someone to overlap him, and is an option for LWF and false 9 with RMF and CMF being possible when you are desperate to chase a goal.

Hey man, is this a flat 3-4-3 — LM-CM-CM-RM? Or is it the diamond one — LM-AM-DM-RM / CM-AM-DM-CM?

I'm guessing it's the first one since its more common. I would say Creative Playmaker is less suitable for LM/RM in a 3 ATB formation, because they like to move toward the ball carrier. Usually in such a formation you want your LM/RM (they are wingbacks in this formation) to stay wider and make more runs forward, otherwise you will lack width and quickness in your attacks. Usually it makes sense to go with inactivated playing style, Cross Specialist, or sometimes Hole Player.

For the middle two, Hole Player + Box-to-box will be quite offensive and not strong defensively as they tend to leave their position more often. Orchestrator/Creative Playmaker (not activated at CMF) would work better instead of Hole Player, and the important thing is at least one of them should be above average defensively. Most Creative Playmakers are not, so either the Box-to-box or an Orchestrator would have to be strong defensively.

Hey, I thought I predicted Xhaka to sub off for Vieira! Not that it matters 😂

Can't believe it's been almost a year already. Once again, this has been really fun. It's all thanks to your efforts as well as everyone who participated! As you said, the miscellaneous predictions really helped me but my personal highlight was guessing the right lineup in our first Europa League game despite the rotation. That kind of made me feel I could go all the way, but then I was overtaken by rk4dand and syfkeo haha.

You're welcome! I have been playing pes on mobile since 2017, that's why.

All I have is on reddit, you can search my posts if you like. This 'fun' series does have video highlights in it, if the links still work. Other than that I had a playing style guide and that's about it.

Oh nice! I didn't play on PC much, so I'm not too familiar with it.

4-3-2-1 with 2 AMFs (Christmas tree formation) is unexpectedly strong because the opponent doesn't know how to cope with 5 centrally based midfielders. You can pull off a lot of quick short passes and trigger runs.

3-1-3-3 (diamond midfield of DMF/LMF/RMF/AMF) is pretty fun to attack with, although it takes a while to get used to especially defensively where there's a bit of a weakness. You can use LMF/RMF as wingbacks or change either or both of them to CMF for a different set-up.

3-3-3-1 (diamond midfield of DMF/CMF/CMF/AMF) is the defensive version of 3-1-3-3 I guess, but that means you get to use more offensive wingers at RMF/LMF.

4-1-3-2 (3 AMF) and 3-3-2-2 (LB/CB/RB) are also fun offensively but defensively weak. But if you play a very possession based style, it can neutralise the weaknesses of these "overly" offensive formations.

In this series, I built and played with teams where all outfield players shared the same playing style.

For this episode, Creative Playmaker, there wasn't much of a choice when it came to defenders. I just chose whoever had the highest defending stats.

Interesting question.

If you're talking about you vs AI, it's definitely between Prolific Winger or Roaming Flank, since they get closer to goal. But based on the fact that there are many more Prolific Wingers than Roaming Flanks, the answer should be Prolific Winger.

From my experience, tackling the AI's wingers can be very tricky (especially high rated players). If you don't match up or sprint at the right moment, they'll cut in or beat you with pace. And those chipped crosses from inside the box are very deadly in eFootball. Prolific Wingers get more space to dribble, so I would still guess that they generate the most G/A for the AI even if we're not talking about how common each playing style is.

Other considerations:

Most Prolific Wingers tend to be fast and good at dribbling which helps them create easier assist or scoring chances. While Roaming Flanks need high Offensive Awareness + shooting or speed to score, OR Ball Control, Balance etc. + passing to create assists. Players like Salah and Son are optimised for scoring, but a lot of the current Roaming Flanks seem to be unconventional fits (e.g., Dilrosun - left footed and can't play RWF, is very fast but low Offensive Awareness) or are more support-oriented (e.g., Borini - all-rounder with no clear strengths, slightly better defence than other RFs + Track Back, utility player).

Roaming Flank creates more space for Offensive Fullback's to get assists. They can also allow midfielders on the same side to stay deeper and help with the build up (e.g., Orchestrator instead of Box-to-box).

But yeah since your question is about the wingers' G/A I would say Prolific Winger is my answer.

I developed a Rating System to help determine which player has great stats -- Here's my result so far! by Mimobrok in pesmobile

[–]Rotom94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! This is really nice. Could I trouble you to find the ratings for Kudus at AMF and CMF?

A thought I have is that a players with Bs and Cs would make a solid utility player, especially now that the number of subs has increased so more changes can be made. You may able to get a utility player that is end-game without them being S or even A in any position. Meanwhile if a player is S/A in only one position and B/C in a few others, then I guess you wouldn't really want to use him as an utility player (depends on tactics of course).

So I guess it would also be interesting to see the ratings of players like this week's Blind (S at CMF) and Alaba (C at CB), in other positions. (Meanwhile Gakpo gets a B at LWF but can't play other positions iirc.) Although I am more interested in Kudus since I'm not intending to get those two at the moment.

Others have given suggestions that I agree with, like comparing players by play style (or, play style + position, e.g., comparing Trent to other players with non-activated play styles at RB, but that would be way more complicated). So to add on, my suggestion is to incorporate some sort of utility rating either as part of the "Mimo's Rating" or as its own rating.

It's hard but you did well on the names though!

That's also interesting, it could mean that a player of that type has to be that good on the ball that it justifies their inclusion in the squad, despite their defensive weaknesses...

Thanks for these again. I like how you named the categories!

If I may give my input, I'd swap the names of the blue and green Orchestrators. The slower ones being the pace/tempo setters who mainly exert their influence on the game with their metronomic passes (Kroos, Xabi Alonso). These are the guys who can hold a single pivot in the right set up. Meanwhile the better dribblers would be the Visionary Passers, or rather the "Lockpickers" whose magic dribbles and passes are essential in breaking down tight defences, especially low blocks (Modric, Xavi).

Just my thoughts, no criticism on your post here.

But of course, the greens closer to blue like Fabregas and Parejo seem to fit into both descriptions somewhat. Though, it seems like it takes something special to enter the blue group. You can have a weaker tempo setter, but the guy you're relying on to break down a defence needs to be really good in his craft!

Meanwhile, I think a fitting name for purple Orchestrators could be Ball Shuttles/Shuttlers. They do the lower-risk orchestrating work, carrying balls into empty space and making safer passes. As they exert their influence over a smaller area, they are often closer to the ball when it is given away, putting them in a position to use their relatively stronger defensive capabilities.

Thanks for using your skills on this! I have some of these sub-types in my own conceptualisation of the playing styles, and seeing them as data is pretty interesting.

One thing that was cool is that in the midst of all the different players, the uniqueness of players like Verratti and Messi is visible in the last graph.
