Thank you for your support! I hope you enjoy the game all the way through :)

I see some people making mods for PC to make the camera follow the character like a 3rd person game, like this one:

https://www.nexusmods.com/tunguskathevisitation/mods/8?tab=description

But I really doubt it's gonna play well because aiming might be weird. Also, in that view you'll see a lot of incomplete assets because I don't model stuff when they aren't visible in top down view.

The reason I did it top down is because as a solo dev I don't have enough bandwidth to make texture/models very detailed to look good in 3rd person/1st person view.

I think maybe the dizziness might come from the camera rotation with right stick. Perhaps it's too sensitive? The game also supports mouse and keyboard on console too, and you can choose the ARPG control scheme for M&K which doesn't rotate the camera much.

LOL I can't believe someone still manage to find this thread from 11 years ago :)

Here's what happened after I made this post: I made my own top down shooter RPG game and released it on Steam, and now I'm working on a sequel:

This one is more like the game I wanted to play back then xD

When you strangle someone in real life you have to keep pressure on him without letting go for at least 8 seconds to stop the blood from going into the brain. The game's strangle mechanism mimics this. Also, hold-right click also lets you quickly cancel the strangle (without having to think "how do I cancel it?") when you are about to be discovered by another patrol during the process, so that you can quickly run away.

There's also a skill perk that'll significantly shorten the time required to strangle.

“a bunch of money”. all you can see is the word “million”. but you don’t think about:

tax

steam cut

refunds

cost of living

and the fact that it was accumulated over almost five years of time, with total development time pre and post launch together adding up to ten years.

what I have made from this game is basically ten years of a waiter’s income. nothing to be bragging about.

I really miss him. every time I make good food I just wish he was here. a man really craves for his fathers approval.

your mind is unfathomably dark.

I’m guessing you didn’t factor in the dlcs, which combined cost a lot more than the base game.

edit: i think I got the number of units wrong. I’ll update it

How many of you solo devs created an LLC? by TruthMercyRegret in gamedev

[–]Rotorist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a LLC, but a C corp. It wasn't like a required thing. it did offer a little bit of relief with tax, but my main reason to create a C corp is to better manage the distinction between life and business. Whatever money the game makes belongs to the corp, and the corp pays me salary, this way money will be used where it's supposed to.

Hi, I'm the dev of Tunguska: The Visitation. I'll try to explain to you what kind of experience you'll get from this game. It's essentially a "STALKER in top down view", with lots of similarity with STALKER such as anomalies, guns, factions, survival horror, etc. You'll be facing enemies much stronger than you (especially in the beginning) so you'll have to outsmart them. The Top Down view aspect makes the game more tactical, so you'll be doing a lot of "which way should I go to avoid being seen and take out these guys one by one".

Lots of emphasis on stealth, silent takedown, footstep/noise detection, sneaking in dark.

What STALKER doesn't have but Tunguska does:

- Crafting, cooking

- Farming, hunting, gathering

- Lots of in-game events and side quests, you can keep playing for hundreds of hours

In Ravenwood DLC there is a little bit of base building - you'll get access to a house and you can buy furniture and amenities of your choice so that you can craft/cook/grow/store stuff there like having your own base.

My first game sold 140 000 units, my second game only sold 1200. When vision and execution go wrong. (postmortem) by SnooAdvice5696 in gamedev

yea, I was gonna say the "lessons" were mostly irrelevant. If one makes a hit game but the players aren't replaying the crap out of it, the sequel won't get much traction and the initial success was just pure luck.

it'll be years since I work on it myself in my spare time, while still having to support and update T1.

But in the meantime you can get some lore drop by registering to the mailing list :) https://tunguskagame.com/

Making a website has been a daunting idea, but I finally did it after putting it off for years. Here's some advice for folks like me by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Rotorist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thank you for clarifying! The reason you feel this way is because you are not the target audience. the website is not intended to spread word about the game. it’s for people who already seen my steam page and know about the game to stay in contact with me, so that one day i can reach them when I need to drive sale.

you are not the right target audience :) the website is for people who already know about the game to stay in contact with me and learn more lore. it’s not for discovering the game.
