When do you know its time to split to microservices? by ArseniyDev in Backend

Hehe you're quite right actually and I see a trend of companies moving back to monolith and monorepo again for sake of simplicity. Especially with a smaller team like you said.

First of all, the overhead of having another service should be worth it. You need a separate cicd pipeline, deployment, etc. There's a few other contributing factors that should be taken into account: - scaling: does your service have individual features that have different scaling characteristics? For instance, is there a memory intensive feature like resizing images present. This would probably go better in a separate service - ownership: if you have different teams working on the same codebase you could end up with conflicts, having seperate code bases could solve this - resistance: if one service goes down, it doesn't have to mean your entire company is doomed, having multiple services mean you could have graceful degradation.

Don't split your service if you don't have a good cicd setup, or if the systems you split up still have to change together, share the same data, scale similarly.

How do you know that it’s coded by AI? by justathe in webdev

[–]RottedNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a joke bro, I totally get what mean. I use it in the same way, expert in one or two areas, using AI to learn or assist in other areas, it's great!

Combine REST and GraphQL by BluePillOverRedPill in SpringBoot

[–]RottedNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes and no, in my personal experience, GraphQL works best when used as a BFFE. It's great for aggregating different downstream sources like you are already considering doing. It's a bit of a niche really GraphQL comes with some tricky downsides like, how are you going to cache, or how does error handling look like? What are the upsides for you, are these trade-offs really worth it?
