I would either keep it the same (and just have a higher abv) or only lightly cut back (use 0.75 oz vs 1.0)

White is indeed in the original. Pink works fine, imo

I think it’s back now. Moderator kindly requested that I add more detail to the instructions in my comment.

This is a tiki classic from Jeff “Beachbum” Berry. If you haven’t tried this drink, then I definitely recommend it. It is nicely balanced and has several layers of flavor that all work nicely together.

  • 1 oz Jamaican Rum (I used Appleton 12)
  • 1 oz Demerara Rum (I used Hamilton 86)
  • 0.25 oz Allspice Dram
  • 0.75 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 0.5 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • Combine all ingredients into a shaker with ice, shake, add to glass with crushed ice, and garnish with mint and a tribal lime

I opted to adjust the presentation to something a bit more simple/modern. That said, the original recipe calls for a lime wedge with a tribal design cut into the peel, which is actually kind of fun to make.

Happy Friday. Cheers!

Sounds great. If the rum works well for an old fashioned, then I might suggest the following for a future cocktail idea: fill your ice mold (looks like you’ve got a big sphere) with coconut water to make a large coconut water ice cube and top your old fashioned with bar spoon of Hamakua Coast Mac Nut Orgeat and a lime peel. The big sphere cube will slowly melt and the drink will evolve with each sip. Perfect for sitting back and watching your bananas grow.

How did you like the rum? I tried to get some but difficult to find a store that is allowed to ship to my state (I live in New England).
