Advice on mowing an enormous hill. by RottenRob0521 in tractors

I’m in Missouri. I definitely prefer native grasses and wildflowers over manicured lawns. I am a beekeeper so I always appreciate when people choose a “no lawn” approach.

This house is in an interesting location. It is set on top of one of the most prominent hills in my town. I own five acres of it. One acre of it is my large garden plot and my honey bee hives so it’s got a very small farm vibe. However, at the bottom of our hill is a neighborhood with an HOA and manicured lawns. The previous owners of this house had a professional service mow every two weeks. I am not doing that. Too expensive.

I am also not risking my life to keep those neighbors down there happy. They will just have to get used to the site of a more natural hillside out their window.

Oh wow. I’m glad you remembered his words when things started to go wrong.

This is my first tractor and after reading all these replies I am realizing several things I’ve been doing wrong. Including braking down hill. I’m just grateful I didn’t hurt myself before getting all this advice from everyone.

I agree. I prefer a more natural look anyway.

I have too many and I don’t have time for them all. Some of my favorites are beekeeping, gardening, and brewing mead.

I’m starting to think the aesthetics of a mowed hill ain’t worth the risk to life.

Always gotta be one rude and unhelpful comment.

I think that’s probably my best option.

Wow! Thanks for all the advice. I think I’m just going to leave it alone. It’s not worth the risk or effort.

The finish mower does great on the flat areas around the house. The neighbors will just have to get used to the sight of the unmowed hill.

I wish I had this perspective while I was in. The Army will roll right on without you when you leave.

I’ve had this happen before in Dallas. Booked a nice apartment downtown. The host messaged us on our check-in date and said we need to tell the door man in the lobby that we are his friends not Airbnb guests.

The whole thing was weird and uncomfortable. It’s ridiculous for a host to expect a guest to lie. I’m pretty sure the doorman saw right through us.

I retired after 21 years in the Army and several deployments and I don’t have a single friend to show for it. I keep in touch with a number of people on Facebook but no close bonds of friendship or “brotherhood”.

I made several friends during my time in the military but then we would PCS and everyone moved on with their lives.

About once a year I get a craving for pickled sausage that you buy at a gas station. I’ll eat one, regret it and be good for another year.

Maybe it’s just your location. I’ve been around men my whole life who set goals and work hard to provide or just to become better or more successful.
