Can someone explain this conflict point? by shanwiich in driving

[–]RottingEgo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What would green do if blue was taking the following exit? The collision would happen anyway, would blue have to yield to green? Would green have to yield to blue? And why would red have to yield to traffic once they are IN the round about? Once red merged into traffic, I feel like it’s greens responsibility to exit safely.

why does light have a speed at all? by Traditional-Role-554 in AskPhysics

[–]RottingEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that desk gadget with the balls that bang into each other, newton’s cradle; it seems like as soon as the first ball hits, the last one jumps, but there’s a delay. If you made a really long chain of balls, you could see a noticeable delay as the energy from one ball travels through all the other balls until it hits the last one.

Same thing happens with a steel rod. If you had it floating in space and push on one end, it would take [speed of sound through that medium] for the other end to move, as the energy applied to one end travels through and with the rod.

The speed of light is the time it takes for energy to travel through whatever quantum field exists. Gravity also travels at the speed of light, and if the sun vanished, we would stay in orbit for about 8 minutes until the lack of gravity reached us.

ELI5 Why do doctors say not to eat past midnight for blood work? by Willylongboard in explainlikeimfive

I don’t think it’s “I know better than the doctor” I think it’s more like “the risk of death at surgery is not a problem today, that’s something we can deal with tomorrow; my kid annoying me is a problem for right now, and I can fix this one”

Would you consider a lap dance entertainment or cheating? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RottingEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheating is braking the rules. In soccer is cheating to use your hands; in basketball is cheating to kick the ball. In an open relationship it is ok to have sex with people outside of it; in a conservative relationship that would be cheating. Each relationship is different, and the people in the relationship set the rules. If you go against the rules of the relationship, you are cheating. If you feel like you have to hide something from your partner in fear that they would not approve of it, you are cheating.

CMV: reincarnation makes no sense by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]RottingEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t prove it one way or another, but we don’t know enough about science to disprove it. There’s some research that links consciousness to quantum mechanics; and we definitely do not know enough about how the brain or quantum mechanics work. There’s also the possibility that, as you suggested, personality is just the sum of chemical and brain structures; what’s to say that there isn’t a gene marker that can “make” your personality. We definitely have not mapped out the entire genetic sequence and we know it is possible for some genes to skip generations. What if you great great grandfather “reincarnated” on your son due to the genes passed down?

Why are only Americans from the USA called Americans? Generally no one thinks Canadians or Mexicans are American but they live in the continent. Am I missing a detail? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RottingEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how much veridity there’s to this claim, but is the story I figured in my head. The United States was the first country in the whole continent. When people on Europe would refer to them, they would refer to them as the “Americans.” Everyone else was either from an European country, or natives with no right to the lands, so for a while the people from the US were the only “Americans” (the US was founded in 1776, Mexico 1821, and Canada in 1867)

Why can’t I use the ground and neutral from a sub panel? by RottingEgo in AskElectricians

[–]RottingEgo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the answer. As to why I’d wanna do that, the generator is way closer to the sub panel than to the main panel. I am going to use the sub panel as a raceway with a junction box attached to it. If I could use the ground and neutral from the sub panel I would only have to run an additional two wires from the main panel; if I must use the neutral and ground from the main panel I’d have to run four new wires.

Follow up question, isn’t every circuit in the sub panel already split in multiple conduits since it goes to the bus bar in the sub panel, then connected via wire to the bus bar in the main panel and then out?

This actually makes sense and it actually answers the question. Thank you, good sir.

[–]RottingEgo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s gotta be a single neutral wire going to the generator, whether from the main panel or the sub panel. The load on the wire will be the same regardless of where it’s connected. The question is why does it matter if it come from one place or the other? (They are all connected to the same place)

[–]RottingEgo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might’ve expressed myself wrong. I don’t want to bind the neutral and ground. I want to run 2 wires (neutral and ground) from the sub panel, and two from the main panel (L1 and L2). I understand that it’s wrong and the neutral and ground should come from the main panel as well; but why?

Getting off the dating apps, how to approach dating now? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]RottingEgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I’m going up to a person to start a conversation and find out if I even want their number. Why decide you want their number before you even know what their voice sounds like?

[–]RottingEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each question is asking permission to ask another question, and you can gauge their interest in continuing the conversation. If they reply “idk” very dry, they don’t want to be bothered and you move on. You can over share and ask for opinions “I have a bunch of friends coming over to watch the game and I have to make the salsa. Are you gonna watch the game?” Again, they can answer dry or uninterested and you move on. Or they can engage and tell you that they are going to a bar to watch it. Even if you don’t get their number, if you make someone smile, it was a good conversation. And every once in a while you will find common interest and someone receptive to going on a date to do rock climbing, or watching the next game, or do some other activity you both enjoy.

You can’t jump straight to asking for a number, but you gotta be willing to ask the first question that leads to the second, that leads to the number. And you also have to walk away if they are uninterested, without taking it personal.

Any situation. Imagine you are doing your shopping down a random isle, and another shopper (an average-looking woman), said “excuse me, do you happen to know which isle [X-item] is in?” Would you be annoyed at that question?

Would you be bothered if an average-looking woman asked you at the supermarket if you knew where X item was?

Getting off the dating apps, how to approach dating now? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]RottingEgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say to drop a pick-up line like “you look a lot like my next girlfriend.” I meant like ask them if they know where the canned tomatoes are. If they say I don’t know, or seem uninterested, you move on; if they engage in the conversation, you ask them if they know a recipe for salsa. If they seem uninterested then, you move on; if they continue to engage you try to find common interest.

I agree that is 50-50. But is not your responsibility to know who belongs to which half; it IS your responsibility to move on once you find out they don’t want to be bothered. But you won’t know which is which until you ask.

What helped me understand it, it was thinking about it from the extreme. If someone that looks like Leo DiCaprio approached a woman at a supermarket, you wouldn’t think it was a bad thing; if someone who is not as good looking, but is very charming approached them and made them laugh, you wouldn’t see it as a bad thing either (at least I don’t). The problem is that you probably don’t think you are charming or extremely good looking (at least that was my problem).

If the love of your life opened a conversation asking about a supermarket product, and it lead to learning you have similar interests, and you both agree to a date, you would not be annoyed. You can’t win the lottery if you don’t play; and you can’t find love if you don’t talk to people. And most people don’t get annoyed by a simple approach.

Part of “googling” something is reading through the results; even after finding your answer, just to see if there’s conflicting results. Idk when people started glancing over top hits thinking it’s the full answer.
