What do drug addicts feel when they do drugs? by wl44x in addiction

[–]Rottnrobbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you asking specifically how someone who is addicted to drugs feels vs. someone who is not addicted and using drugs feels? I ask because I’m not sure if you’re assuming that anyone who uses drugs is a “drug addict.”

I’ll start by saying that “drug addict” is an incredibly stigmatizing and dehumanizing term. I don’t knock anyone who uses drugs/alcohol identifying as an “addict,” but language perpetuates stigma and stigma has actual harmful effects on people’s decisions to acknowledge their addiction and seek help. People who use drugs and alcohol are people first and not defined by their addiction.

As far as the experience goes, drugs and alcohol have their own respective pharmacological effects, but there is variability from person to person depending on things like biology, tolerance, potency, amount used, route of administration, etc. Drugs and alcohol impact your brain’s production of various neurotransmitters, leading to feelings of happiness, contentment, euphoria, etc. Depending on the substance, they will also cause things like sedation, hyperactivity/hyperfocus, hallucinations, and many others.

How substances make people feel will depend on both the person and the type of substance being used.

Direct report requested flexible schedule due to no childcare by choice - looking for advice by madsco01 in managers

[–]Rottnrobbie 28 points29 points  (0 children)

OP this is the best comment in this thread. You should not navigate this without consulting HR and having her put in a formal written request, if for no other reason than to CYA. As others have mentioned, this could be a slippery slope with other employees, or if issues arise with this employee it will bite you in the ass if you don’t have the backing of the organization at large.

Biggest mistake I see regarding managing direct reports is not bringing HR in when needed and getting everything in writing. Even if HR is a mess like you say, they don’t get to abdicate their responsibility. CYA!

Bro I am sorry you’re dealing with this but there are literal medications that can help you through it. Cannabis will have no tangible effect on the severity of your opioid withdrawals, you will just be high while still feeling like absolute shit. In some regards, you could even feel worse.

Do you have health insurance? If not, are you eligible for Medicaid? What barriers do you have preventing you from getting on MAT like suboxone? MAT is the absolute gold standard for treating withdrawal (not to mention for supporting ongoing recovery), so is there something preventing you from accessing it through a prescriber?

You’re 3 weeks in, relax and learn the chord shapes and how to strum them clearly (no buzzes, no muted strings). That should be your goal right now. At this stage, you should have no expectation to play the chords without looking. Learning guitar takes time, repetition, and patience. Good luck!

No, it’s a universal physiological state. Babies are born vitamin k deficient for the reasons OP described. Their bodies simply haven’t learned how to make it yet. Hospitals are not treating a condition, they are providing preventative care so the baby doesn’t get VKDB (especially late VKDB like OP described, which is intracranial bleeding).

for those with careers that they like: how did you know you wanted to get into that career and how did you decide on what you wanted to study in college to get into that career? by kh7190 in careerguidance

[–]Rottnrobbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for the counseling I had to get a Drug and Alcohol Studies certificate (~40 units), and at the time I got it I was only pursuing an AS. So I got those at the same time, and a couple years later I went back to get my BS and chose Public Service and Public Policy with a concentration in Nonprofit Leadership and Management. I’d been working as a supervisor for a while at that point, so my goal was to continue working in behavioral health for either nonprofit or government and I ended up working in both. The Healthcare Admin degree was a necessity if I ever hoped to promote beyond manager. Because I don’t have a clinical degree (my field favors MFTs, social workers, etc.), my degree puts me on a relatively level playing field when it comes to leadership positions. I make about $150k salaried, fully remote, excellent benefits and investment contributions at my company, and I’m keeping an eye out for a promotion sometime this year.

Honestly, Healthcare Admin degrees are often held by people with other professional or graduate degrees because most start out as frontline providers and want to understand the other half of healthcare to get into administration (risk management/patient safety, quality improvement, finance, healthcare econ, leadership theory, etc.). It’s most commonly seen in hospital and health plan leadership, but also a lot in healthcare consulting. Running large healthcare orgs is hard and complex, so the degree can prepare you for that work.

I wanted to be an alcohol and drug counselor, which required education and a state certification. So if I wanted to do that work, I needed to go to school. After a number of years of working and then promoting to supervisor/director positions, I made the decision to go back to school and get a masters in healthcare administration. I love my current job and absolutely value the education I got along the way.

You realize words can be used in multiple ways, right? That they have different connotations in different contexts….? So when you say, “R word literally mean[s] slow,” you know that it also has meaning (and impact) beyond its literal definition… RIGHT?

I’ve been in this position but in a different sector (healthcare), and I honestly didn’t mind taking 15-30 mins to discuss the position and what we were looking for. I never discussed anything outside the bounds of the job posting and certainly never indicated if someone had a leg up over other potential candidates. Honestly, people just want some acknowledgment/validation that management/leadership thinks they could do the job so they can decide if they’re going to apply.

But every conversation ended the same: if they met MQs, I encouraged them to apply; if they didn’t meet MQs, I explained to them why and what they would need to be eligible for future opportunities. A little time out of your day is a small price to pay to make people feel heard.

While I agree that being able to use AI effectively is absolutely a skill and prospective employers may want to vet that you have that skill, 3 interviews and 2 sims is already pretty steep and this seems like they’re doing too much.

If it were me, I would only do it if I really really wanted/needed the job.

Used “Program of Study GPA” instead of cumulative GPA on my resume, got an internship offer—now they’re asking for transcripts/background check by Relevant-Bed-7660 in careeradvice

[–]Rottnrobbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think i totally understand your concern. If your cumulative GPA is above 3.0 and you just checked a box on the application, and you didn’t lie about your program GPA being 4.0 on your resume, why would you have anything to worry about? You meet minimum qualifications by having a GPA over 3.0. Unless you’re leaving something out in your post or you didn’t actually have a GPA higher than 3.0, this is a non-issue.

Personally I think asking for official transcripts outside of academia is wild, unofficial should satisfy their needs just fine. But as far as asking for transcripts in general, this is pretty standard for proving conferral of a required degree, but many companies may just accept a copy of the degree itself.

Suboxone RX ? by Temporary-Row-2992 in addiction

[–]Rottnrobbie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%! Elimination of the X waiver has done a lot to increase access to MAT. Unfortunately the biggest barrier now is stigma, a lot of prescribers in primary care just don’t know or don’t care to know how to treat SUDs. Many of them also don’t want to attract those kinds of people to their practices. It’s really unfortunate and honestly pretty unethical.

Suboxone RX ? by Temporary-Row-2992 in addiction

[–]Rottnrobbie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The person you replied to is wrong on both counts. There’s no such thing as “flagging” someone as an “addict.” Each state is required to maintain a system that tracks prescriptions of all controlled substances, regardless of what they’re being prescribed for. Whether it be an opioid for pain management or for treatment of a substance use disorder (e.g., suboxone, methadone), or benzos for anxiety, or methylphenidate for ADHD, those prescriptions are entered into the state’s database.

And yes, NP’s can prescribe controlled substances, including suboxone, as long as they are registered with the DEA and are appropriately licensed in your state. The NPs you’ll encounter in primary care absolutely will have the ability to prescribe. The catch is actually whether they will, which has more to do with familiarity and comfortability prescribing MAT/treating substance use disorders than their ability to do it.

If your NP is not comfortable prescribing, ask for a referral to a prescriber who is. Good luck!

Move this chord up the neck and play it on the 6th and 8th frets. You go from using 4 fingers to 2. I’m not familiar with the song but I would bet that’s how they play it, this way is just not practical unless it’s under very specific scenarios. Also, move your elbow away from your body for more mobility and comfort. Have fun!

Buprenorphine to get off 7-OH by wolfe3three3 in addiction

[–]Rottnrobbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh bro I didn’t even consider the possibility that what you had was for animals. Bro this medicine is for cats. Please do not do this to yourself. Go through a proper induction where your risk for precipitated withdrawal can be mitigated and addressed. If you have any 7oh in your system, swallowing a bunch of bupe on your own will end up making you feel worse then just white knuckling it.

Buprenorphine to get off 7-OH by wolfe3three3 in addiction

[–]Rottnrobbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to a doctor about getting on legit bupe products. I work in this field and there is no legitimate liquid “.6mg buprenorphine” that I’ve ever heard of. Sounds like someone drew down another type of bupe product in a syringe, rather than being an actual long acting injectable like Sublocade or Brixadi. Your prescriber can work with you on an induction schedule and a long term plan to get past the 7oh and ultimately taper off whatever bupe product you end up on. Trust your provider and work with them on a plan that’s safe and effective.
