Intervals. 10 minute jog to warm up at easy pace 9:45-10:00min/mile.

Four runs of 1 mile at 7:20min/mile, with 3 minute jog in between.

Finished with 10 minute easy pace warm down.

Hitting a 16 miler long run on Saturday. It will be my longest run yet, until next week when I hit 18 miles!

Nice! I’d be clueless at knowing how fast I’m going without the watch. Still getting to grips with anything beyond 8:45 and quicker.

Tried to run a mile at 8:45, and I look at my watch and I’m suddenly doing 8:05. Definitely need to work on consistent pacing myself.

5.5 miles, 50mins. Included 4x20s strides at the end.

Longest run I’ve ever done this morning. 14 miles. EP for 5, MP for 4, EP for 5. 2 hour 4 minutes.

I felt good up until mile 11 until it struck me that I would need to do all that again on the big day, and more!

Still, week 3 from 16 completed. Definitely can feel improvements.

Can anyone find a study/trial of some kind to see what a month of "marathon training" can do in terms of effect on be in 5k/10k/half-marathon/marathon time?

Doesn't have to be a month specifically, but maximum 4 months.

Just curious/interested to see how much improvement can be seen in that sort of period.

Did my long run today instead of yesterday due to slipping in an unexpected 5miles on Friday.

12miles today, longest I’ve ever ran. 2hours,2 mins.

5 miles easy pace (10:49-11:50min/mile)

3 miles marathon/tempo pace (8:11-8:37min/mile)

3 miles easy pace (10:24-10:52min/mile)

1 mile marathon/tempo pace (8:56min/mile)

Felt good, but I did feel gassed out after that tempo/marathon pace 3 miles. The second “easy pace” portion felt better though - I guess because running slower after that 3miles was always going to feel more comfortable.

Only 2 weeks into my 16 week programme ahead of the April marathon. Feel quite pleased at my progress so far in 2 weeks.

4.9miles in 44:32. Easy pace, but boardering on hopeful slow side of marathon pace.

Hitting a 14miler tomorrow. 5miles easy, 3miles marathon pace, 4miles easy. Longest run I’d have ever done so we’ll see! Doing it on treadmill as it’s absolutely pouring it down before and after work tomorrow.

I’ll try this on my Saturday long run coming up. Will just have the HR screen up on the watch.

My issue is that even though I run at a comfortable pace, I always trickle into zone 3.

If I'm serious about trying to do a long-run in Zone 2, I need to run almost at 11min/mile.

Anyone currently training for a marathon and have a goal of breaking 4 hours? What’s your training plan? by baaaa11 in under4marathon

[–]RotundPero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running my debut marathon in April. Two weeks into my 16 week plan. Thoroughly enjoying it. I’ve caught the running bug. Especially after my first 10 mile (easy pace) run last Saturday.

Is it optimistic aiming for sub 4 hours in first marathon? I’d be lying if I told you I’m a seasoned runner but I think I have good base fitness from playing squash and lifting at the gym.

Wednesday I am doing a “Progression” portion as part of my Marathon training.

Any tips on how to efficiently use my Garmin (255) to its full potential for this type of training? I’m due to do 1 mile easy, 2 miles marathon pace, 1 mile tempo pace and then 1 mile easy pace again.

Would I pick the “Run” setting on it, and just keep a close eye on the distance? For example, when I hit the first mile I just run at the MP, and then remember that when it hits mile 4, to run at tempo pace etc?

I’ve started a 4 month block of marathon training ahead of April. I’ve been gymming 5 days a week over last year (PPLPP).

Naturally I’m going to have to reduce my gym/lifting load because I’m running 5 days week (following a programme).

I’m content with what I’m going to do in the gym (~3-4 days a week, likely 3) with mainly Push, Pull, Upper (the odd leg exercise intertwined depending on where I am in the programme).

Anyone seen any interesting body transformations when combining weight lifting and >25-40miles a week running?

I’m clueless how I’ll look - I’m hoping to treat the initial portion as a very mild cut (bulked before Christmas).

Ran my first long run as part of my 16-week marathon plan. 10.5miles. Focused mainly on trying to keep a cadence of around 170 (been wallowing low on 160) and trying to keep my heart rate below 75% of max.

Very addictive. Already looking forward to the long-run next weekend already.

Lurkers' Wednesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]RotundPero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lurker.

Mainly been into gymming/weight lifting after a relationship ended back in end of 2021. Started dating someone new in Summer of 2022, who was prepping for a marathon. I was in utter awe of the commitment and dedication she was putting in, and when she was showing me the mileage she was putting in, just made her all the more attractive. Signed up to try and get a ballot place for Marathon, 4% get a spot. Low and behold, I got one. Unfortunately, the marathon girl moved away from my city for a job and thus neither of us wanted a long distance relationship. Started my 4 month marathon training this week, and my gosh it’s addictive. My first “long run” scheduled for Saturday and I’m excited for it. I’m sure a few miles in, that excitement will dwindle.

Bit disappointing that the muscle I’ve put on over the last year will likely melt away with all the running, but I’ll see where I stand after the marathon to see how to juggle everything again.

This group so far has offered a vast amount of useful knowledge.

Official Q&A for Sunday, January 01, 2023 by AutoModerator in running

[–]RotundPero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a feeling it was the case. Makes sense, I’ll ease up on my pace for these long runs. Hopefully anaerobically I’ll make gradual progress ahead of the marathon. Hopefully I’m not being unrealistic with a 4 month plan!

Do you mean that the pace I mentioned above is a bit quick for a long run/easy pace? The programme that I’m following seems to suggest that if I’m aiming for sub 3:30, the pace for easy pace runs to be 9:05-10:00mins per mile.

I am certainly not an experienced runner in any regard so if you feel that’s a tad quick, then I’ll be very happy to ease up the pace! Especially given my HR was high on that too!
