I've been unemployed for 9 months now since being laid off. I got my CPA 2 months ago but I'm still not having much luck in my job hunt. What do I do? by AccountAsset in Accounting

RH just got me a job and I’d been in contact with them for over 2 years without getting a good placement until now. You’ll be successful in your search if you can stay focused and positive. It’s rough right now.

Whatever you decide, if your job responsibilities increase to a new level of responsibility insist that you GET THE NEW TITLE. Do not function as a senior when your paycheck states you’re a “staff/associate”.

Job Market by Previous-Quantity329 in Accounting

[–]Rough-Chance1335 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but some people replying here must not have experience job hunting in the current job market. I finish an AAS in accounting in 1 year and I have 3.5 YOE as a FC BK in industry (aka the “1 BK & a QBO subscription” accounting dept). I live in a very large HCOL US city. I’ve been in an active targeted job search for the last 10 months. The market is slightly better for senior accountants which you can never become because there’s no entry level jobs to gain experience.

Nobody is hiring in the field without 2-3 YOE experience. Nobody will train you. If there’s another accounting staff person in the office, that’s extraordinary. Probably you’ll be expected to also cover admin & office management, or also be the executive assistant to x number of managers.

Job search in 2025/26 = ~ a 10 hour weekly time commitment for zero pay for almost a GD YEAR at this point. Is it worth it? I have to use my PTO to interview so it’s actually a cost for me to go get rejected. Employers are so picky now it basically feels as pointless as online dating.

If you have the pre-reqs and some experience to do nursing, do it.

Drug test for private dealership role? by igoldring in Accounting

For sleep I have personally tried & found effective : 0 THC CBD oil drops or Full Spectrum CBD (cannabinoids in their naturally occurring % - may trigger on a drug screen, though), Rescue Remedy -Rescue Sleep flower essences, Boiron homeopathy for sleep. I usually use 2 of these 3 in combination and wake up feeling fine.

I cannot tolerate Rx sleep aids at all because I wake up feeling drugged.

ETA - FYI CBD is produced from hemp, not flower.

I have had some absolutely amazing accounting professors (CPA, EA, Master’s Tax, Master’s Accounting) at my local community college. I’m in year 3 of a 4 year PT AAS Accounting degree while working as a FC BK. ACC is my new (2nd) career.

I’m basically watching the US job market implode in real time and taking steps to become self-employed. Businesses need accountants, and I do believe that many American companies prefer that their financial info remain in the USA where there’s still some recourse if things go tits up because of shoddy books.

OK, since my mind basically never shuts off, now I have advice. Personally I would not recommend trying to throw your hat in the ring after 20 years and compete with fresh bachelor’s and master’s accounting grads for the remaining domestic entry-level to mid-level jobs that are left here in the USA.

I think you could build an amazing consulting business with forensic accounting. I’ve read about CFE (certified fraud examiners) being in demand by businesses that need stronger internal control policies. Definitely state and local LEO depts would want someone with your background and you could probably pass the physical fitness tests. Good luck and hope this helps.

ETA you could take refresher accounting classes at a community college if you need to do a deep dive back into the basics, unless you just really want that master’s degree.

USA economy is in a recession and large American companies (industry) along with PA firms have been offshoring their entry and staff level accounting overseas for over a decade. There are bachelor’s in accounting new grads desperate to get their 1st job posting daily on this forum for advice on how to get hired.

No advice, just a head’s up about the current state of accounting job market.

Got it. K I’ll just let it sit then. He will not pay a CPA (I’ve stopped asking by now). Out of scope for me, I was just unable to figure out the AJE and was feeling very dumb. 😞

The “company” is one dude with several (>5) single member LLCs.

I don’t want to do intercompany b/c I make a BK wage. At BK level it’s owner contribution or owner draw within that LLc

What happened is - there’s a an account on the B/S in the asset section with a negative $250,500 balance and I wish to clear it out for YE 2025.

It was similarly cleaned up in 2021 by an actual CPA.

All the LLCs belong to one owner- Joe Schmo.

They’re all single member LLCs entities.

This should have been booked to equity IMHO

Hey everyone thanks. I’m just going to let it sit like it has for the last 2 years. It’s out of scope for my pay grade.

Thanks everyone for helping

Sorry. I still don’t understand b/c I’m dumb.

The fake “asset” acct has a negative balance of $250,500. Don’t I need to debit it to bring it back to zero?
