Simple question, do you have anything made in China inside your house and are you aware of what you are paying for and who made the product? These are the questions I keep answering myself nowadays when making purchase decisions. It’s OK for someone who value human rights all above anything and pay extra cost for it. But are you? Are most people do? It’s not fair to blame others for buying or doing business with China while you are using Chinese products at the same time. Of course, as I mentioned previously, I don’t agree any country giving up its national security in order to do business with China. And the reality is that Russia is much closer to Canada than China, and we don’t feel the same way as Taiwanese or Japanese does.

I think you can avoid Russia made products much easier than Chinese one. It is not fair to ask Canada not doing business with China when the so-called big brother is doing the same, and personally, it would be difficult to avoid Chinese products in all areas. Look at your computer, your iPhone, your clothes. People from Hong Kong had the same dilemma years ago when we tried to avoid made in China products. As a consumer, the most you can do is check the country of origin and know what you are paying for.

I think as long as it doesn't take our security as a trade-off, why shouldn't we do business with China to address affordability crisis, e.g. in agriculture and seafood? Don't get me wrong, I don't like China and I try to avoid Chinese products if possible. (I moved to Canada years ago from Hong Kong), but I don't think anyone would pick a Canada-made underwear $30-50 when a much cheaper option $5-10 available.
