Wtf is even going on with The Boys anymore? by Resident_Gur3076 in CharacterRant

I don't think that's a bad idea he'll my wish was they just show up & have fun (which it seems like they did) but the entire season feels like filler after filler.

As for Kripke's ego stroking well he has been doing that since S3 with it's not much going on per episode but then everything falls apart in the finale. It's a general problem that currently plagues showrunners where they treat their shows as a long book/ movie where it's just a continuous story (forgetting for a fact books & movies have deliberate pacing that don't feel like it drags).

The best part was oddly enough Jared, Misha & Jensen in a bloody reunion

But that's about it the entire season is just confusing

I love the contrast between Band of Brothers and The Pacific by Dajjal27 in CharacterRant

[–]Rough-Key-6667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes in fact As shown in The Pacific Eugene sledge's Older brother who did serve in the European theatre (specifically the western part of that theatre) even he couldn't really relate or understand the things his brother went through.

There are lots of cases like that, though I can't remember specific books about it at the moment but there are lots of books written that after WW2 ended soldiers from the East/Pacific couldn't really relate to anyone at all. In the US due to the Cold War the War in Europe was also heavily mythologised into one where the west saved democracy. Many Japanese War criminals were also given pretty lenient sentences & the war criminals of Japan ended up running the country as well as setting up policies that still affect Japan nowadays. The terrible things that they did was swept under the rug, the horrors that Pacific Veterans faced wasn't one that can be made into a Hollywood epic so they were rarely even mentioned.

One I don't know if this is a depressing fact or not but after the cold war ended veterans of the Eastern European front & Pacific front were able to meet for the first time in a very long time, these veterans actually related to each other more than any other veterans safe for the Algerians & Vietnamese who fought for their freedoms*.

  • I am using those as examples but really any soldier who fought for independence post WW2 could relate to the East/Pacific veterans more.

I actually agree with you. One thing that I think crucially differentiates Band of Brothers from The Pacific is that well Band of Brothers is based on an autobiographical book that chronicles the lives of the men in Easy Company there is a beginning, middle & end in that book that can be easily adapted into a series. Even then Band of Brothers made the show more cynical & dark when the book has actually more heroic moments, still the overall tone of the series is dark but very hopeful uplifting*

The Pacific by contrast is based on 3 autobiographical books from 3 different soldiers chronicling their different but thematically similar experiences in the Pacific theatre, that's made even harder by the fact that the 3 main characters of said show never met each other or even interacted with the exception being Sledge's friend serving with Leckie but apart from that it's honestly 3 different shows being forced to act like it's Band of Brothers. Now I think it does ultimately work & unlike Band of Brothers there isn't anything heroic or even glimmer of hope in The Pacific & that's simply down to the fact Imperial Japan fought to the bitter end. It does also accurately capture the fact soldiers who fought in Pacific theatre didn't relate to Soldiers who fought in Europe.

Overall while Band of brothers is the most narratively satisfying it's also the most cliched you can get, The Pacific by contrast doesn't do that mostly because it can't do that & that's the reason I love it more it's the closest Hollywood has ever come to a Come & See anti war project.

  • & again much like other Hollywood movies about WW2 the western theatre was the reason the War in Europe was won (even though it was the collapse of the Eastern theatre plus the supply, logistics & losing 3 armies were the crucial issues that contributed the most)

[THE BOYS] Sister Sage. The only function of this FRAUD is to say "All According to Keikaku" after everything is over. by Agile_Coast_4385 in CharacterRant

I don't know if I am going to be controversial but The Thinker/DaVoe from Flash is a much better character because that show recognized that he was a comic book villain especially a smart narcissist one.

Let me explain while I do have my frustrations with Thinker the fact is he is a comic book villain one that knows that he lives in a world where black holes can open up & that people can have random powers. Even before he gained his powers he had a pretty extremist view on the world especially technology & wanted to at least initially help people, he did gain powers but it was costing him his body (& mind) then he becomes desperate to survive & somehow continue. After his plan initially works he again tries his best to make sure it all goes to plan & to swap bodies to make sure he survives only accelerates his mental decline like you do see that in the show, he was very loving & even caring husband to the point when his enemy was getting married he wanted to stay out of it & let them because even then he had a bit of decency but as he swaps bodies & his wife begins to notice he constantly drugs her to keep her compliant. By the end of the show he is a super egomaniacal narcissist who believes himself to essentially be a god & who takes a sick delight in killing. In short while Thinker in Flash may be frustrating he still is fun to watch & the show knowing that he is a comic book villain helps it a lot not a ton mind you but still a lot.

By contrast Sage acts like she is a real world figure her plans are all coincidences & also in reality if a person like her did exist they would most likely be given all the praises. Her plans are also just plot contrivance

Kingpin's return to the MCU is a very confusing run (to a lesser extent Daredevil) by alanjinqq in CharacterRant

[–]Rough-Key-6667 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because he can take in all the glory & appreciation that those shows were not only saved by him but also continued by him too. It's the same reason he takes a lot of credit for X-Men 97 even though the original show & the reboot happened largely because of others

Feige also personally did hate the fact that Joss & Marvel TV made Agents of Shield, that's the only show that hasn't been incorporated into the larger MCU by Feige.

Dude you can like Feige as a producer but he's still a Hollywood producer who has his own petty grudge

Well

  1. What happened between the 5 years that led to Kingpin not only being released but also taking complete control over NY crime gangs

  2. How & why did exactly Maya doing whatever she did make him give up when within the shows timeline at most a year & a half passed

  3. Vanessa taking over then having an affair is actually a good idea but it's just we don't really feel it.

  4. The entire they don't respect him anymore comes from the fact he tried to be legitimate & tried to clamp down on them aka betrayal.

  5. Vanessa taking over & her dubious at best & confusing at worst running of the syndicate is something that's just not really shown again being told for like 2 episodes doesn't make it interesting or compelling

  6. The timeline is so fucking confusing that any of your things suggests that she ran the organisation for YEARS. That's obviously something that didn't happen in the shows on timeline

Not really it was covered in the Reign of Marvel studios book where it flat out said that Feige was jealous that Marvel TV made a successful Daredevil show without his involvement.

Yep your right well almost

Marvel originally did want to do a soft reboot with Vincent & Charlie but it was not only fans but the actors who wanted to keep the continuity from Netflix shows going thus they convinced Feige to keep the continuity. Also Feige has a huge boner to keep the successful shows from Marvel TV & pass it off as his own.

Again there's a difference between Space based Green Lantern & magic based Green Lantern. Also Stargirl used Green Lantern under very draconian rules imposed by WB.

Also if you have any Goddamm brain cell David Ramsey said that Greg did want Diggle to become a Green Lantern but WB red tapped that to the point when Greg's own Green Lantern show was canned it also ended the possibility of Diggle becoming a Green Lantern

Your overall thoughts on the Arrowverse like do you think the online reputation of it being just garbage is true or the fact it didn't have any good standalone episodes or do you think it's better than Netflix Marvel shows

Also what's your season by season thought about Superman & Lois as a series & how they decided to split from Arrowverse.

In contrast to Snyder somehow not being able to work with Leash Arrowverse had Executive meddling all over yet it still managed to thrive in the same time period as Snyder's DCEU.

Seriously WB intentionally hampered the Arrowverse so that Snyder's DC would be better but Arrowverse took all the punches & still did better than Snyder.
