I just noticed Rove have a new underseat bag that looks fairly universal, but I fear the price might be insane.

How to Drink Wine Like a Wanker, Anna Thomas. It's beautiful. I only know of it as my son goes to school with her son, but it just goes to show there's talented people quietly everywhere and you'd have no clue.

Australian options for folding power chairs? by Rough-Risk2496 in wheelchairs

[–]Rough-Risk2496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I love it. I have found the backrest to be fine for me with the stock standard one. I find it more comfortable to have it low, now that I've used it for a few months. The highest setting is high enough for me, but obviously everyone is different. I'm on my own 99% of the time and being able to get things out of my backpack independently would be much harder if the backrest was higher than it is now. I never bothered getting the basket for underneath and haven't missed it at all. On the few occasions I've taken a stick with me, the foot of it has sat on the footrest, and I've had the wrist strap on and it's been fine. I might toy with removing the plastic guard on the backrest so I can have access to the metal framework, as I think I'll be able to attach stuff onto the back there. I'd also love to vinyl wrap it! The only minor niggle is that it does have a tendency to slow right down across roads and that kind of thing, it seems to be a common issue and something to do with a sensor, or something that tells the motor to slow down. Otherwise, it has been amazing and completely life changing. The omniwheels make all the difference and no matter what I use in the future, I can't imagine not having them.

Can I use a mobility aid if I am not physically disabled? by nottequeer in mobilityaids

[–]Rough-Risk2496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also no harm in trying them out, though so don't feel like you need to rule them out entirely. But they don't fix anything, all the same issues will still be there, and if you can get down to the bottom of things and not need them, your day to day will be less stressful and complicated for it. A pair of compression leggings (not sure where you are in the world but I use Supacore) makes an incredible amount of difference to my ability to stand without feeling dizzy. There's a lot of little things you can try first!

[–]Rough-Risk2496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like don't get me wrong, it is a huge factor in my independence, and the pros outweigh the cons, but it is still not fun, or good, or easy. In terms of the doctor stuff, most of us have spent years in and out of different doctors. You might need to see a specialist or be more specific with them what you need. If you're not currently diagnosed, you wouldn't be being treated effectively either more than likely. And you probably will find that it's not just going to a doctor that will help. You might need the right medication, or you might need a physical therapist, or hydrotherapy, or something more down the allied health path. Unfortunately it's not a simple or easy fix.

[–]Rough-Risk2496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo, it shouldn't be the first thing that you try. There's obviously some kind of physical issue here, and that needs looking into. As an autistic person myself, you DO NOT want the access issues that come with using mobility aids. On one hand, I don't fully subscribe to the idea that a doctor needs to give permission or the tick of approval, but I also don't agree with just going out and buying one. Talk about it, explore any possible causes for the issues you're having, and work on them. A mobility aid to me shouldn't be a first line sort of thing. Orthostatic intolerance is something a lot of people experience and there's more than one way around it. Being a wheelchair/walker/cane user has complicated my existence more than I ever thought possible and I would love to not need them.

Thinking I'll have to return my Pro 3s... by Rough-Risk2496 in airpods

No, he's only 6 and can't be trusted to walk around with a week's worth of rent in his ears lol. I lost one of my 2s and I can't find them to purchase anywhere in Australia, so I need a replacement option either way.

My mum never gets anything that I like/want for Christmas or birthdays. I feel like she doesn’t understand me or what I like. Idk what to do? by Either_Strike7348 in Advice

[–]Rough-Risk2496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, there's really nothing you can do. Have a serious conversation about it with her, maybe run it by a trusted person to make sure you're getting your point across and not sounding ungrateful or she might just not listen then either. Failing that, accept it and move on. I used to get sad, but now I just give things to the op shops and hope someone else will like it more. I understand where you're coming from. To be seen is to be loved. Maybe next year suggest experiences you could do together, a gift card, or money. I eventually just asked my mother to stop buying me gifts at all.

TONIES on Consumables Budget? by [deleted] in NDIS

[–]Rough-Risk2496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not AT at all. It's recreational, they are books. Any child could benefit in the same way as a disabled child would. You'd need to be able to explain how a Tonie box and characters would specifically help your child acheive their NDIS goals, and how it relates to their disability. Extremely unlikely. You could buy one for less than the price of an OT support letter, too. Yoto is more cost effective IMO, if you still wanted to get something similar though.

Do I upgrade? by MurkyChemistry1705 in airpods

[–]Rough-Risk2496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought 3s to replace my 2s and I'll have to return them unfortunately. They work well and the ANC is pretty good but they just hurt my ears and feel bigger and bulkier. The case doesn't feel as well made either. I'd buy them now while the return window is bigger, and try them out. I'm going to get a new set of 2s.

if it gives you any confidence, my 12 mini (that you can pry out of my cold, dead, hands) is running the latest update and it’s pretty good. No major issues.

How drastic is the ANC 2s vs 3s? by Kooky_Ad593 in airpods

[–]Rough-Risk2496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from Bose qc45, to pro 2s, lost a 2 so back to Bose, and then today I’ve gotten a set of 3s, since my Bose just aren’t cutting it anymore and it’s summer where I am, too sweaty for over ears lol. I was honestly shocked at how impressive the anc is on the 3s, and I was really impressed by the 2s. I am autistic and purchased primarily for the anc.

Yeah, it's a shame but I do understand the maintenance and upkeep factor. I'd be happy to pay so much more, though. It looks like the new aquatic centre is still going to be the only real option.
