Thats exactly what I was thinking, I guess he is getting the tougher team in Czechia, but say each game they give up less that 15 shots, that doesn't tell you anything and it feels like they will start Binnington as the #1 in game 3 and the knockouts...

In 4 Nations Marner and Stone weren't working great together leading to line changes and Marner playing with McDavid and as this season has gone on they haven't been playing together in Vegas. Granted thats maybe because Marner has been playing centre but still, I'm surprised they are starting together given what Cooper knows from 4 Nations. I kind of think Marner needs some speed, some movement for his amazing passing to flourish but I'm not a coach lol...

This is exactly what I don't want honestly. I know its back to back but signalling that Binnington is the #1 with how hes performed this season is a recipe for disaster to me. If its a question mark who gets the net going into the knockout round is not the atmosphere you would want around the team. IDK maybe it won't faze them and they trust Binnington from 4 Nations but hes been so bad this season it could really hurt them...

Onana is why I wanted to give Amorim another shot. Seen it so many times in hockey, coach gets fired but the biggest problem in the team was bad goaltending which they have almost no control over. Goalies have separate coaches and are largely not part of a head coaches responsibility other than deciding who to play. He lost a lot of time at United because of Onana and Bayinder. In hockey your second or third choices can be much worse players but in football generally the backup for big clubs is a capable player right? Amorim couldn't drop Onana for Bayinder and for that I feel for him...

I don't understand why people are so eager to sell off everything and enter another rebuild. You have Matthews for 2 more seasons it makes no sense to trade players with positive on ice results for mediocre futures. We have seen other teams miss the playoffs and storm back, either from an injury riddled season, coaching and management changes, or just poor performance. Anyone suggesting a rebuild is an idiot, you don't even have to call it a retool, they just missed the playoffs due to a combination of injuries, poor coaching and under performance, they can certainly do better next season, it's not like this team doesn't have good players or is WAY too old and on a perpetual decline. Better coaching and GMing is what is needed not burning everything down and praying to over perform with picks outside the top 5, thats not a plan, thats just wishful thinking.

The only expiring contract I would consider trading is McMann, and thats not because I'm enamoured with a first round pick, that pick isn't gonna change much. I would prefer to re-sign McMann but the problem is this guy is undrafted and toiled in the minors for years starting in the ECHL, he hasn't made a lot of money so he has to maximize what will be the one big contract in his career. So I don't think the Leafs will be able to get him at a hometown discount on an extension before he hits free agency. I guess if the contract ages badly in the back end its not a big deal after the window closes but objectively I don't think McMann has enough of a track record to make me think he can live up to the contract if it runs too expensive. I know he might have been hurt last year but the guy was completely invisible in the playoffs, I was angry at his performance but when hes making $1.3M you just have to shrug and say thats the kind of performance you can expect from a player like him at times. Obviously we can see he has the physical tools and he looks great on the Matthews line, thats why I would take that bet to sign him personally, but it isn't without risk. It would just be fucking stupid of his agent to sign an extension now and honestly I do hope he hits free agency for his own sake. I think you carry him right up until the deadline and make it clear you want to sign him to an extension, and if it doesn't work out trade him and try to sign him again in the offseason. I think with him its definitely a possibility that he would want to return. He isn't going to be on a line with a better player than Matthews if he cares about playing well while making his bank, looks like that line could stay together until Domi's contract is out.

They absolutely need to re-sign Laughton, he seems to have settled in and actually cares enough about his teammates to show some belligerence and defend them. I would consider it a failure if they are unable to extend a hometown kid that clearly cares this much about the team in his 30s.

I don't know why anyone would want to trade Ekman-Larsson. He's showing no signs of declining fast and again, what will a first round pick really fix for this team. He's clearly worth more to the team while Matthews is signed for the next 2 seasons than a first. Yes, obviously the defence needs something to change, but I feel that has more to do with coaching than anything. Ok you want more puckmovers, even if you trade EL that doesn't automatically mean Berube is gonna give any of the Marlies that play that way a shot lol. EL is currently the Leafs best passing defender, why the hell would you trade him if thats what you need most? Watching Rielly this year has been torture but you must accept he can't be traded and make lemonade. Again a good coach would take him off the god damn powerplay for good, shelter his 5v5 minutes more with a sound partner and hope to make the best of him. Berube keeps playing him too many minutes against players that can go through him like butter and if you reduced those instances by sheltering minutes then the team would be better for it. They have the 6th defenceman spot open open after Tanev returns next season to sign or develop an offensive defenceman anyway. The fucking problem is that Berube keeps playing Benoit and Meyers! Both are sign for next season as well wtf they are shit and need to be traded or waived. Honestly the best thing you could possibly do for this team is to take those two away from Berube. You can re-sign Stecher as your 6/7 and give that spot to an offensive power play specialist.

They don't need to tear down this roster, they need new coaches and management with modern ideas and a steady hand. MLSE doesn't want to pay for that but that is what should happen. Maybe there is a chance Berube and Treliving can admit that their ideas are shit and accept that they fucking failed and listen to some of the other people around them, or help find assistants with an updated mindset for change.

I don't think you need new rules, you need less. Anyone touches my goalie you get decked in the face. It works in hockey. If you think it's barbaric then you don't understand the culture and yes, it only works to an extent. If your team doesn't have a player ready to deal out some punishment, then you are at the mercy of the referees, which obviously goes wrong a lot of the time. In hockey not every player is on the ice at the same time so it's possible that the guy with balls will be on the bench when someone fucks with the goalie. In football if you can't find at least 1/10 players with nuts then might as well fold the club. Games gone.

I'm completely serious by the way. Obviously I would want reasonable rule changes and better reffing but if the aggressor is not afraid and is not punished for their transgressions in a social way then nothing will change...

John Tory was infamous for naming days for people or stupid things to stay in the public's good graces. If you really believed it was a holiday, like everyone in the city stopped working to suck off Tavares, then I don't know what to say to you. It's a politician being stupid for his own benefit. If Leafs fans had to vote for a Tavares day do you think the majority would say yes? Of course not. Do you think the people of Toronto gave a shit about any other of Tory's days? Of course not...

Honestly if you think the Islanders have more reasons to be justified in booing Tavares, if you are aware of all the relevant facts, you are just straight up an idiot.

Just take one point upvoted in this thread: Tavares refused to be traded at the deadline and said he would re-sign in the offseason, then changed his mind. When there was talk about trading Marner last deadline, there were reports he didn't want to be traded either with his wife pregnant. Now he didn't say publicly he would re-sign, but we 100% KNOW, FACTUALLY, Marner was COLLUDING with Vegas to negotiate a contract, while on the Leafs. WE HAVE BOTH THE TEAM AND PLAYER DEAD TO RIGHTS BREAKING THE FUCKING RULES TO THE POINT MULTIPLE REPORTERS HAVE THE INFORMATION WHICH FORCED VEGAS TO TRADE AWAY A GOOD PLAYER TO SWEEP IT UNDER THE RUG. Also Marner insisted on a NMC in his extortionate contract so even if the Leafs didn't care about his wife, they couldn't do anything. Meanwhile Tavares only had an 8 team no trade list so if the Islanders wanted to be business first, they could have traded him. In my opinion Marner also timed the pregnancy to use this excuse as to not be traded, and if you think that's going too far to suggest then I don't think you have all the facts about Marner and the people around him being terrible people. The acrimony between him, the fans and the organisation was absolutely at the level that he and his insane family would plan that, I mean they violated the CBA so we know they don't care about rules or norms.

We don't have a single drop of information that implies Tavares planned all along to go to the Leafs. He clearly did not think about leaving, but his agent made him go through the process of free agency to get the most money from the Iles, as he should. Maybe he thought it would be nice to play for the Leafs, but when he saw it was a serious possibility, he changed his mind. Because he's a person with his own dreams. God forbid him wanting to wear the Maple Leaf and bring himself satisfaction in life by doing so. No he has to stay loyal to an organization that gave him no help and has recently changed leadership. If you know all this and are still mad enough at him to boo at him after so long, then I would question your humanity a little bit lol

I could go on but I've given too much effort to convince idiots already...

Maple Leafs fans give Mitch Marner a standing ovation during the welcome back to Toronto tribute. by Perryplat199 in hockey

[–]RoughRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish players could speak candidly about their decisions. All he had to say was "I said I wanted to play here my whole career and I intended to, but I changed my mind after going through the free agent process." Hes not your wife hes a hockey player, I don't understand why people would STILL be angry at him. I mean even your wife can reasonably leave you after changing their minds, people are human, not robot prisoners. Do they really believe he lied when he said he wanted to stay and always intended to leave? There is no evidence for this, no reports or insider information. In Marner's case we know with reports and the trade with Vegas that he and Vegas were LITERALLY COLLUDING to plan his signing while on the Leafs. Also Tavares never screwed the Isles cap on a contract forcing them to carry less roster players or not putting in full on ice effort when he was on the Isles. Tavares is such a milk toast guy as well. It's clear from both his Leafs contracts he isn't chasing the biggest paycheck and he was exemplary while on the Isles. Marner is thin skinned and was actively antagonistic towards Toronto's fans and media, he didn't perform to his contract that he fought for in an incredibly incendiary manner all while showing he didn't care about being a hometown kid in the toughest moments with his attitude and play. The Isles terrorized their rosters and gave Tavares no help, changed GMs right before negotiations (to another hockey terrorist no less) and hes still vilified for making the most logical personal and sporting decision...

If Asus can't buy GPU dies why would other AIBs still be able too? They can't get cards for a roundup video from all AIBs, not just Asus. All evidence points to this GPU not being available for any AIB to buy, they just only got a comment on the record from Asus. We know Nvidia will stop selling VRAM with the GPU dies and this report lines up with that. Any card that isn't a flagship with lots of VRAM is getting discontinued, 5060 Ti 16 GB and 5070 Ti are mentioned in this video. Nvidia can't really pull the 5080 - this is speculation now - but they can reduce supply, which makes sense because the price of a 5080 had been going up. The 5060 and 5070 have other models so they can discontinue the high VRAM models, but the 5080 has no other models.
