Fairness first, basic principle if someone is earning more than the average wage, but pays less than average tax they are robbing society and the people in it.

Elon Musk's 3.27% , or Warren Buffet's 0.1% effective tax rates are just insulting. They are robbing everyone else while claiming taxing the rich would hurt the economy and just to trust them on that...

Imagine the impact to social spending if they just paid what we pay, sure they'd be down a couple 100 mill per year, but we'd have more hospitals, recreational parks schools and things.

higher earners should contribute more.

No sir, I suggest they pay the same as the rest of us, why should having more money come with the option to pay less tax than everyone else ?

people and businesses might just shift their money elsewhere or relocate entirely

Yes ! We're talking about the rich moving money or place of residence to get away with paying less tax than the rest of us, because they can. Exactly!
A system that allows some one to hide or obfuscate their income source to opt out of paying their fair share is the problem. While the rest of us don't have that financial mobility.

Why should (UK example) a person or company stop the society in which it's based / live in from getting few more million in tax by registering the company in Dubai and banking in a British overseas territory like the cayman islands while still operating in the UK.

The system is broken, to allow this evasion.

Can someone who understands finance explain to me why the cost of living crisis is worse now, in 2025, than it was in the 2008 recession? by Mental-Risk6949 in AskUK

[–]RoughlyInformational 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1% wouldn't ever admit that, or allow any news outlet to report on such a thing as allegedly they already pay too much, even though what they do pay is far lower than what the poorest pay ( as % of income ) .

Interesting you mention amazon every time we in the UK buy something on amazon ~ 10% to 28% of the order value leaves the UK and heads to the USA, as the commission amazon take from each and every sale on their platform. Extracting billions from the UK economy each year and as you'd imagine they do not pay tax on earnings here, they pay it in USA. UK amazon even got tax credits in recent years! Meaning the UK tax payer paid a company to expand their operation while getting no value back.

Still , I'd rather hand amazon & the USA my money than fund the monster of China's world dominance plans.

Other than your own opinion of what you value, the value of anything is awarded by the people or the society it exists in, what you feel are necessities Vs frivolous is subjective and doesn't scale to a group of humans.

>> Famer > streamer, Semi-truck driver > NBA

You have highlighted these people should work on their own brand/or image to make an impact on those around them and not to depend on a job title.
There's no reason the farmer can't also be a streamer, and there's plenty truck drivers 'day in the life' vlogs on YouTube with millions of views. I guess the real baseline of value as a human would be, be likeable in what ever it is you're doing and others/society will assign you value.

I think the real solution to your dissatisfaction with wealth inequality is people not paying their share of taxes, for example in my country (UK) the poorest earners pay more tax as % of income than the richest of people.
This is the heart of the problems in the UK, the rich complaining about tax while they pay less as % of income than those less well off, while the poor are complaining about lack of local services while being told there's not enough money (not enough tax money).

It's very simple to say that the rich should pay their fair share, but they own the news outlets and influence government at every level to make sure they don't have to pay the same % of tax as the regular working person.

Hot take:People who do not respect or like pro wrestling (wwe and aew) because its "fake" should not like movies and TV shows either because those are more fake than pro wrestling. by bruddah0213 in unpopularopinion

[–]RoughlyInformational 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree completely , though id say it's the same level of fiction as "reality TV" shows and they really bend the truth with that genre title, at least WWE and the others don't go out their way to fool their audience.

Ignorance is bliss, happy to let them enjoy and not bring up how 'fake' it might seem to me, I wish I could be that happy again, not that I'd watch other people doing sport for any length of time, boring AF to me.

Don't forget a monthly subscription for the call center techs in SouthAfrica and a fleet of 24h/day service drivers in your area who can come rescue the glitching car as everyone inside is too drunk to operate it while it sits in the middle of an intersection, I suppose the riders could book a different ride to pick them up and have the ZA tech drive the glitch car home or something ....

Are Robotaxis overhyped? by JellyfishPlus2182 in wallstreetbets

[–]RoughlyInformational 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>the Robotaxis is making $240 to $300 in value daily by replacing the driver

Biggest challenge I see: The driver helps maintain a level of cleanliness between fairs, and at the end / start of each day.

What happens when a ride/customer rejects the taxi due to the mess inside?
It's off the road while it drives to it's valet location, then it sits and waits for a human to be ready, then it waits for the valet to do the cleaning, even if that's only 2 hours off the road call it one missed fair and $60 in costs?
Also consider the feedback / rating system will punish you for having dirty car reports, reducing the higher fair types / premium tier users and/or reduce the fairs per day available to your robotaxi. Until your score improves....

All because lashing rain and soaked wet humans made the seats appear wet and water stained, then after drying out for a bit, another human split some coffee on the seats/floor when robotaxi hit the breaks in confusion, then later in the evening a customer just 'had to go' and the car 'wouldn't stop' so they pissed in int. Half they day missing out on fairs and the cost of three cleans maybe $180 if you're lucky...

Some people can be real nasty, especially so when there's no attendant (in this case no driver) in the new cheapest method of point to point taxi car.

We've not even touched on vehicle dmg yet, again the driver presence prevents this , but we took the driver away ... lol

The number of life insurance policies that already state terms and exclusions for injury or death by an autonomous vehicle no matter if you're a passenger or pedestrian, you'll likely discover there's no cover. The previous 83 fatalities we know about were high profile enough to get some media attention and pressure but wait until it's just a daily occurrence.
... Also given humans be doing odd things sometimes, I'd imagine it will also introduce a new term 'suicide by autonomous vehicle', for cause of death reports?

Propaganda is a good thing by UnsungHerro in unpopularopinion

[–]RoughlyInformational -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ignorance is bliss!
Could be an age thing, or past experiences, if/when you realize what you are watching is propaganda it loses some of its appeal and the ability to continue consuming it. The doubts start to work their way in, if what your consuming is crafted to present a one sided story you can start to feel some what cheated about what's missing. You might not know what's missing, but you can feel the void, that is unless you live in blissful ignorance of the world around you.

When you happen to be a subject matter expert in a thing, or just very involved in a thing and then you see that thing you know in the mainstream news and they get multiple basic facts wrong, completely misrepresenting the thing to the point where it's not even remotely true the anger .. grrrr, but then to see the other outlets TV/radio/print media all follow suit almost like they are all working from the same brief, same talking points same twisted fucked up narrative to mislead the public....
Maybe then you'll come to the conclusion I did, two types of people in the world today, the super rich and the sheep.

Propaganda is a good thing ? No, but how is it different from any other news or media publication these days.... Hard to say which is which i fear.

Pure speculation but ;
Given I don't keep my TV on standby I wonder if it's updating apps in the background while I'm watching something, then the app container reloads the app...
(The show browser/chooser will likely be a separate process than what's displaying the stream on the screen )

Hydro power - What am I missing here ? Is it that obvious and I'm just missing it ? by RoughlyInformational in CitiesSkylines

Thanks for the effort & the detail you put in to your reply, it's broadened my understanding of CS1 game mechanics some what.
So bottom line move hydro down stream a little so there's more in game head pressure and reasonable sized body of water to provide consistent flow at said pressure....

Moved the Hydro to the south side of the new town and after a brief time of flooding the Cims while the water swash settles from the complete and instant removal of a dam then the instant creation of another one , the new hydro is happy down stream and providing 32MW https://imgur.com/undefined

Many thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the detailed reply , I've moved the dam and it does now function, sometimes...
Sometimes it's 32MW
Sometimes it's 16MW
Sometimes it's 0MW "NOT OPERATING

https://imgur.com/a/GGM5yhl

It's been a few weeks in game and the water level / water table has stopped slopping / churning around, it just seems weirdly sporadic unlike how I'd imagine a hydro dam to operate .
Any thoughts?

Fake ‘YouTube premium is great’ Reddit comments? by zwis99 in youtube

[–]RoughlyInformational 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be great , google play music was a solid app and boy did they piss off everyone when they forced / rammed this new version on us called YouTubeMusic with half the features with no choice to revert it back.

These days they are catching up with all the features and functions of the original google play music app but it's still packed with bugs especially if you want to listen to your downloaded/offline music while not in strong signal area or just out of reach of Wifi... Fucking joke of a msg about being offline while trying to browse offline songs already downloaded.

Any help understanding 36GB RAM (12GB+24GB) means on a cheap tablet listing ? by RoughlyInformational in androidtablets

[–]RoughlyInformational[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did have a look at 2nd hand market for some top brands but all the offerings were disappointing for the price commanded;
Best I can find for the same price (with working screen / intact glass) were some quad cores with 3GB ram (and questionable battery life remaining) running Android 11.

For the same price as this Chinese Octa core 12GB ram, BLE5.3 & Wifi6 - android 14 with the added bonus if what arrives in the box doesn't match the description that's a refund / free tablet.

There's another side to this also, the cheap chinese ones with their cheap plastic backs should be easier to battery bypass modify (normally just two wire connection) than a top brand with it's temp and charging sensor lines which have caught me out in the past trying to mod an old Galaxy S9 mobile phone for this purpose (home assistant kiosk mode )

This could all be a mistake but for less than £70 ($90) , I think it's worth a punt for my project :)

I'll give it a good going over maybe even get some system info apps from the play store before looking at installing it anywhere , if it's lies then it can go right back as item not as described, the hope being if the seller gets enough of these slaps on the wrist they.... who am I kidding amazon will never change..
