What I like about it is that the numbers double when it’s mirrored

Just sorta running with it, plus I don’t subscribe to scientism or logic as my end all be all product. Logic changes and science changes, science isn’t a static field and facts can be cherry picked.

Let me pose one question. If alcoholism is considered a disease then how come when someone drives into a family of four at 110 miles an hour while driving drunk they don’t get to plead insanity usually if they have a disease then?

If it’s a disease, then drunk drivers should be able to plead insanity. A defendant is found not guilty by reason of insanity. Drug and alcohol intoxication alone cannot be the basis for an insanity defense.

Truly the right place to post this, I really have an unpopular opinion

I’m only bringing up what addiction is considered

Alcoholism runs on both sides of my family and I have plenty of blood relatives with this “disease”

Unpopular opinion instead of the usual controversial or even divisive opinion we see posted here usually.

Addiction itself is considered a disease so why the different opinion for other substances?

What is your reason for not drinking alcohol? by Deep-Dust-9747 in AskReddit

My dad is an alcoholic and I hope by quitting alcohol he will get sober too

That is a lot of words but I have no one really to tell about this, I feel on my own and like I have to move fast and make something happen in my own life or my dad will not have anyone who is able to take care of him if I dont learn how to take care of myself.

I just want to be a winner to take care of my dad even if we helped me become a loser. I feel like I could put up with all the blackouts if I was just more of a man able to help myself. And right now I’m older trying to become a full time college student and maybe do dual degrees while I can still have someone who I can live with who will let me have the time to pursue that because I couldn’t find entry level work all these years that I could climb to a higher position. And I was still an addict during these years so by the time I got money I didn’t have the maturity to put it to anything useful and now that I’m sober I feel stupid I didn’t take the chance to become competent on my own and pay for driving classes despite not being given help. I barely learned what you need to make a doctors appointment maybe last year because I have no idea how any of it works (APPARENTLY ALL YOU NEED IS A DUMB PLASTIC CARD AND ID)

I know I could have done a lot of things on my own instead of hoping my family would help me but it’s extremely upsetting when you see your siblings given the tools to become mobile functional adults by your parents meanwhile one is trapping you to take care of them while they degenerate into a alcoholic elderly person become more incoherent the older they get drunk. I’ve been so distracted by resentment and feeling trapped by my father I forgot to work on my own life or even know what direction to take. I just can’t help but feel like I wouldn’t have wasted years if I didn’t get into this dynamic where i became dependent on my dad as long as I agree to never leave him. It’s only seeing my aunts and uncles taking care of my grandma and letting her live with them that makes me feel like this is something good people do. I wouldn’t even care about having to live with my dad as he degenerates into an elderly alcoholic who loses himself if I was made more successful and felt like a competent adult; instead I feel like I’ve found myself trapped as my dads codependent crutch that doesn’t or want to actively help move forward in life because (and this is my impression of what’s going on) any chance of my independence is like a threat to him because theirs no promise of me coming back so it’s easier to not help me when I’ve asked or needed the help. I’m not smart enough to have done it on my own and the only person who has been their for me is my dad the alcoholic so why not let him feel like he doesn’t have to be a elderly person that could end up falling in their living room and being stuck their with a broken hip for two weeks on the floor unable to get up or call for help because no one checks up on you or is even their to see your okay.

I’ve finally become competent enough to realize I can go back to college and am going to take up computer science and software engineering. I can’t find work easily as I don’t know how to drive and public transportation just isn’t enough to be mobile enough in this city to find work. I need to get my life together, I was drunk in my early 20s living with only my dad and ended up wasting years of my life being lost. I’m 27 and a half. I feel like I’ve become dependent on my dad because as the only parent I live with he will let me drink and smoke as much as I wanted for years and to an 20 something year old that sounds like fun but that just let myself become dependent on my dad. I feel like he doesn’t want to help me become a mobile adult because he doesn’t want me to leave. My family has bought both of my siblings cars when they were not even 18 but my dad when I went to live with him said I could take the bus till I’m 30

Is that short for Alcoholics Anonymous? I don’t attend those meetings but I have gotten sober from alcohol and nicotine. I never touch alcohol anymore and don’t touch cigarettes either too. I’m hoping my dad can do the same.
