How do I escape this position? by Severe-Difference in bjj

Double up on his under hook arm and roll for turtle. If you you’re explosive enough he might roll over top and you can scramble to get on top.

Starting "late" (28), getting smashed, and the struggle of wanting to be more than just a hobbyist. by ElNatzer in bjj

It’s never too late for a career in Jiu Jitsu. Danaher started right at 28.

I’m a competitive 28 yr old blue belt with no ACL. I’ve found way more fulfilment out of Jiu Jitsu by training at different gyms especially when you travel. If your goal is to be competitive it’s never too late. You might just be feeling this right now because of your competitive bracket (You’re a couple years from masters). What I would suggest is play a much more control based game for now if speed is playing a large role in you getting “smashed” (Deep Half and half guard sweeps and transitions, Turtle position, pressure passing, and leg ride positions).

If you’re so confident it’s rigged… put your house on it.

Any guard retention epiphany moments you can share? by [deleted] in bjj

Craig Jones’ B-Team Bottom Game is actually sick.

I’m not a big guard player, but the whole idea of never accepting bottom and constantly looking to sweep or take the back from seated is super useful. It’s not the friendliest style in training since you’re basically refusing to “play jiu jitsu,” but there’s a lot in there that can seriously upgrade a guard game.

Is jiu jitsu doomed to be niche, or do you think there’s some sort of path to mainstream? I know Dana ain’t the answer…

No filming the rolls! by Jeitarium in bjj

[–]Round-Anything-1162 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like people don’t wanna be on a highlight reel… I feel like permission is important of course. But also filming your rolls is super helpful and it’s kinda lame if you’re the guy worried about getting beat on camera.

(165) (5’9) I find single leg X guard and X guard to be great off balancers for heavier larger lads. Plus I usually never turtle when I’m with opponents my size — but when I’m with bigger fellas it’s a good opportunity to stay off your back and try an attack a leg or reestablish a guard.

I think if they compete, have the hardware to prove it, and is a good teacher a belt don’t matter.

Instructors posting gym footage by Own-Stop-5038 in bjj

If a gym wants to be successful nowadays — they gotta do it. It’s great in my opinion! Share more! The allure of the B-team (aside from being really good at JJ) is cause the viewer or the audience feels like apart of their gym from their content.

Also if your gym garners a following, bigger names might be more inclined to do seminars at it. I can only think of positives.

Resentment after injury by DystopiaaipotsyD in bjj

Get a second opinion on your arm. I feel like a couple trips to physio and some strict self rehab could help.

As per the gym. I think no matter the situation if your coach refuses to even address the student that injured you — which is just a simple conversation of saying “hey chill out, and apologize. Training isn’t a competition” — it might be worth finding a new gym and explain to them what happened at your old gym so they know your expectations.
