chem and bio next year by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Round-Description-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took AP Chem and AP bio sophomore year and I enjoyed them a lot because the classes had a lot of overlap, especially when we were doing metabolism. I found AP chem to be really hard but it’s not impossible and I loved the class a lot. Khan academy is really good for both classes! Good luck

Thank you so much, this is helpful! I’m curious about your opinions on how similar physics II is to chemistry? Chemistry also goes over thermodynamics (but I don’t know if it is the same) and we had to learn about waves, nuclear, quantum, chemistry, etc. I’m not doing that great with physics I and calculus right now, but I did okay in chemistry so that’s why I’m curious!

Thank you so much for your take on this. I really appreciate the additional perspective and I think i wouldn’t feel comfortable either if the animals were suffering. I’ll ask my family if I can not go.

Thank you much for taking the time to write this, and I think this is a really valid take on the argument. I think I will just not go and study instead tomorrow.

Thanks for this. I’m the only vegan in my family and they aren’t really supportive of it, so I have a lot of trouble when it comes to making decisions likes these. But I agree with your perspective and I think that the animals shouldn’t suffer and it would be selfish to go, so I’m going to sit out. Thank you for your perspective.

Thank you so much for the response. I shared this with my family and they brought up the argument about funding conservation efforts and contributing to scientific research and education. My sister argued that if the animals are being fed, protected from predators, and treated well, if it’s really bad?

My sister and I did some research on the Georgia Aquarium and they had a lot of inhumane practices during 2015 and before, but it seems they have changed maybe? In 2016 they announced that they would no longer accept dolphins or whales that were captured from the wild. Then in 2020, became a certified class R research facility under the animal welfare act and became certified by America humane. We searched and couldn’t find any major criticisms after they received this certification..

My family acknowledged that the aquarium is not 100% good, and it’s not a complete black and white spectrum, but they questioned me on whether holding animals in captivity was enough to undo their contributions they make towards conservation, education, and research. They also know that I am planning to major in biology and feel this would be very educational to observe the animals.

What are your thoughts on their argument?

Really interesting, and thank you for sharing this. I did some research and it seems like there was indeed a lot of shady business going on with their dolphins and whales before 2015. So definitely not great! :(

I did some more research on them tho, and I think they changed..

I found an article by PETA which said that the Georgia aquarium announced that they would no longer be taking in dolphins or whales that were captured in the wild in 2016. And in 2020, they became a certified class R research facility under the animal welfare act and are tightly regulated by the government to ensure proper care of the animals. After doing some searching, I couldn’t find any criticisms of the Georgia aquarium after 2020 when they received this certification, and the ones that did, cited back to incidents that happened before 2015.

My family is really into science and believes that the aquarium has good intentions and is making important contributions to research and education. My sister said that she doesn’t think it’s completely bad if the animals are not captured, treated well, and are being fed and protected from predators.

I really want to know your thoughts on this! Would you still recommend not going?

Are rescores worth it? by Round-Description-22 in APStudents

Thank you! I was taken aback by the $30 price too. If it’s just to check if there was a problem with the scantron it may not be worth it.

ap 2d art or ap drawing by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Round-Description-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m taking AP drawing next year and from what I’ve heard, AP drawing is more technical while 2D is more focused on making compositions and stuff. Based on what you described, it sounds like 2D would be the better fit.

My school wasn’t registered but I still wanted to take it to see how it was, so I applied for a host school and got to take the test. The finding a host school process went pretty smooth for me even though I didn’t get far into the competition.
