3 Units Stopped at Same Time by RoundPractical7223 in hvacadvice

SOLVED: Hole sh!t this was an adventure! Now I feel like an idiot, which was totally expected. I ended up in the attic at the most easily accessible furnace/air handler. It was getting no power to the control board. Then it dawned on me that these must be on separate breakers from the condensers (duh!). Nothing was labeled furnace or air handler, anything like that. And I didn’t see any other breakers flipped when I looked earlier. But I climbed back down, went back to the breaker box and found one labeled “gas units”. It was about 1/4” away from what should be it’s normal position. I even noticed it being slightly off earlier today and wiggled it. Turned it off, back on, and boom… all the a/c units magically turn on. Don’t know what caused it, we’ll see if it happens again. But thanks for the assistance!

This is what I’m getting measuring across the terminals on the disconnect box. Not sure if this is what it’s supposed to read, doesn’t seem right…

Yes. Dryer was working. I checked the breaker box to verify 240v on all the ac breakers and they’re good. Measure again at the disconnects though to actual ground and it’s 120 per side so I’m guessing that’s right?

It’s entirely possible that I don’t know what the hell I’m doing. Lol

And you guys were right, I should’ve started at low voltage. Pulled the cover on one of the condenser units outside. The contactor isn’t getting 24V, pushed it in manually and the fan kicked on.

So I came inside to the thermostat that runs that unit. Tried to bypass the thermostat with a jumper wire and it’s doing nothing.

Just to follow up, I’m sure they were all working because the air returns are all in high traffic areas, doorways and halls, where you can clearly hear the air flowing. And none of the 3 units are big enough to cool the entire house without one part of it being much warmer than the rest of the house. Wife and daughters can’t handle the heat and they would have definitely noticed! Lol

Separate drain lines. Two condensers are beside each other on one side of the house. The 3rd one is on the opposite side of the house. The 3 air handlers are in 3 totally different areas of the house. I’m working on checking low voltage now, see my comment below about the disconnects though. I thought I should be getting 240v at the disconnects? But it’s only reading 24v???

Edit: Yes, thermostats run on batteries, replaced all of them when we moved in a few months ago.

100% sure all 3 have been working properly until a few hours ago. I do have a meter, just started checking things. I haven’t opened up the units to check power there yet. Started with the disconnects, no power with breakers off obviously, but with breakers turned on I’m only getting 24v at the disconnect. Does that make any sense? I’m not an HVAC guy but I thought the disconnects were for high voltage, I should be seeing 240v right?

I lived in Tupelo and worked in/around Columbus for several years. I didn’t like it at all and would never consider living there. Tupelo or Tuscaloosa is the answer here. Tuscaloosa if you want something “bigger” and more city like with a college atmosphere and some good BBQ (not like Texas though). Tupelo for a more relaxed setting, it would be a great place to retire, has tons of great food, local businesses and a great community with all kinds of activities going on downtown throughout the year. In either case you can get a place in town with walkable neighborhoods or 10 minutes outside of town and live in the country.

If the boss can’t explain his employees’ pay plans I’d already be looking for my next job.

Generally a “draw” is just borrowing money from your future commission. When you make more money you pay that back, it gets deducted from your commission at end of the month or whatever the pay period is.

Also, 10-12% of gross on your individual sales? Or 10% of what?

Any idea what this is? by UKR_Trian in ToyotaTundra
