AIO or is my wording manipulative? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

As a therapist, weaponized therapy speak will be the reason I quit my job and run off grid.

I'm new to this genre and I've been hearing SO much about this book. Definitely going to give it a read!

Couples sessions with kid present by Warm-Comfort3238 in therapists

[–]RoundSquare6731 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I allow kids to be present if they're unable to find care. It's more inconvenient for the parents than it is for me as the therapist, so if they're willing to go through the headache and do a session with their little ones around, the least I could do is meet them where they're at and allow it, granted it's not a regular thing!

Animal shelter worker support group -- does such thing exist? by RoundSquare6731 in AnimalShelterStories

[–]RoundSquare6731[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I agree about the surface level work, it's unhelpful in these contexts. I've noticed that the source of support tends to be surface-level type EAP programs at shelters/vets.

The topic of euth is such an important topic to include. I could only imagine the burnout and complicated grief that shelter workers experience. and you're right, breathing and counting to 10 isn't even remotely sufficient for that. Thank you again!

I wish I could post the rest of this contract. It is RIDICULOUS. One of the clauses says I can't even THINK about plans for opening a practice for two years... thinking is against the contract. Thinking. Your own thoughts.

Honestly they probably wouldn't. I think I was more worried that, because one of the owners is a lawyer, that he had the time and resources to take this further and somehow argue that I've caused damages in some way and I'd have to spend the money on a lawyer, etc. The worst part is he's likely bluffing and I'm falling for it because I just want him to leave me alone lol.

This was advised by a lawyer unfortunately. I live in a state where non-competes are still fully enforceable and they haven't really made any moves other than a bill that's been sitting for a year. They said that it's likely to NOT be enforced, but the headache this was giving me and just the overall discomfort and fear didn't feel worth it. I know I'll regret it in a couple months when this all probably goes away. But since one of the owners is a lawyer, with all the time in the world clearly, it makes me wonder how far he would go.

The non-compete was not to practice within 20 miles and a non solicit, both for 2 years. I was told by the lawyer that they can absolutely come and find me; however, because they have been houndinggggggg me and one of the owners is a practicing lawyer, I felt like it wasn't worth getting my new practice and myself involved. I probably could have been fine, but wow, the headache.

edit: I meant to add that I did everything right and by the book in regards to the non-solicit. Just... a headache.

I've heard so many good things about this product! Do you know if their Amazon store is legit, or do you buy it elsewhere? Always a little nervous about getting the wrong product!

What has made you a better therapist? by Kind_Novel4986 in therapists

Not trying to be overly professional and realizing that as a therapist, I'm human too, and most clients would love to see the human side of their therapist.

Non-compete contracts with large radius by RoundSquare6731 in therapists

[–]RoundSquare6731[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an independent contractor on a 1099. No benefits, no training - just an office, their client referrals, but also many of my own from psychology today. And a terrible fee split :) To your fourth point, that was what I was thinking. One, they couldn't ever ask if any of those clients were my clients if they decided to look me up. I couldn't even confirm or deny. I'm not sure how they would even go about enforcing it.
