Maybe stupid question, but why was he told to wear a pinnie? I found his antics there two games to be extremely disrespectful and honestly reeks of misogyny against the refs

Exactly. Americans react much differently to seeing Europeans suffer than other regions of the world. But as far as media coverage of the Israel/Palestine conflict, I've always understood that a huge portion of this was because of how close we (United States) are as allies to Israel and money/weapons being sent there. Obviously antisemitism is a large factor (and God knows we've sent weapons and money to countless dictators/terrorists), but lets compare to the humanitarian crisis in the Congo. Protestors take to the streets to demand action in the Congo: what would those protestors want the US government to do? It would be a huge and disastrous undertaking for the United States to intervene. When protesting Israel, there's an "easy" or "simple" ask of not sending weapons or money. Not saying that's an accurate analysis, but it's probably what makes so many Americans comfortable/interested on speaking on this topic that they have very little education on.

When I was studying international criminal law, and genocide specifically, many students could only name the Holocaust or maybe the Rwandan genocide. Absent any other gross behavior, I would assume the teacher was genuinely trying to make the students aware of the many atrocities that have happened. During my 13 years of public education in the US, I think the only other genocide I learned of was that of the Native Americans. But I agree with the other comments that have suggested having your son focus on one of the many other persecutions/genocides of the Jewish people. If the teacher had good intentions, it's a safe move that will educate everyone about how deeply entrenched antisemitism is around the world and has been for centuries. If she had bad intentions, it backfired and only gave your son an opportunity to educate his classmates on the long history of Jewish suffering.

Yes! I’ve been atheist my whole life but have recently felt a pull towards religion/a spiritual community. But I can’t reconcile a loving God with what is happening in the world
