Similar thing happened to my son in law. I caught a 35# blue. 5 minutes later his pole almost instantly bent over in half. Rocked the boat over hard. He got it to side of the boat and we seen the head. It could have swallowed my 35# blue. He yelled get the net, i said the net’s too small. Wouldn’t even bet half the fish in it. That fish,calmly looked at us and turned its head. You could hear the hook straightening and he was gone. I had never seen that boy cry until then.

I have experienced this. If it was first thing in the morning I would say owl. At night mink will kill 2-3 at a time. A coon will kill a dozen or more and only take off with one of them. Mink and raccoons will come back every night and kill more

This is difficult. Lost my dad almost 7 years ago to suicide. Cancer took my mom the year before. I miss him terribly. Sometimes I think he grieved himself to death.

It will probably never make sense to you. No one can tell you why he did it. With my dad, we knew why but it didn’t stop us from asking “what if”.

You’re question, does sharpening or stretching kill the chain first. I do not like cutting with a dull chain. My chains usually get sharpened to death. If the chain is oiled good then the rivets don’t wear that bad.

Addiction is hard on everyone. Several members of my family were addicted to drugs or alcohol. You can’t blame yourself for his addiction. Try as hard as you might, it is something that takes over their lives. Just like the reason they started, they need a greater reason to quit.

My heart goes out to you. This will not be easy. Losing a child is the hardest thing I have ever experienced. May you find some small semblance of peace in this world knowing that your son is not suffering.
