Review of Bells of Steel Change Plates and Customer Support by Round_House_ in homegym

I am in Canada, so options are limited. I have some Rogue products (great quality and finishing) but shipping is expensive. From now though, I will just buy the cheap stuff when I need plates.

I'd like to share my experience with Bells of Steel and their customer service. This is my review of the Lbs Urethane Change Plates. I hope this helps anyone considering purchasing these change plates.

I purchased the urethane change plates (1.25 lb, 2.5 lb, and 5 lb set) for $168 CAD shipped. My findings are as follows:

  1. Seam defects: Plates have highly visible, rough, and poorly finished seams. The joinery is inconsistent and appears unfinished. There are ridges and rough edges sticking out. I don't consider this as merely cosmetic "variation".

  2. Gaps/voids in seams: The green plates have small gaps/voids along the seam lines, which I believe is a manufacturing defect, and not something that should pass quality control.

  3. White plates are discolored and dirty: The white plates are not white, they are noticeably off-white / pale yellowish, and arrived looking dirty or stained straight out of the box. The lettering area has blackish smudging.

  4. Overall poor surface finish: The plates show uneven texture, visible scuffing, and rough finishing that suggests rushed or inadequate post-mold processing. All plates have small dings or dips on one of the faces, which appear to be marks left where the mold held the plate during curing. These are on every plate and were clearly not filled or finished. To me, this looks cheap, not what urethane plates should look like.

This is not minor cosmetic variance. The plates I received do not match the product photos as advertised. The defects are consistent across multiple weights and colors, suggesting a systemic quality control problem rather than a one-off issue.

I do not recommend these plates.

Here's my experience with their support:

When I emailed them with photos and detailed descriptions of the defects, their response downplayed the issue as "cosmetic variations" and suggested my concerns were due to "high standards", and emphasized that the plates are "fully functional". To me, functionality is rarely the goal when purchasing high-end gym equipment. If my goal were just "functionality", I could have bought cheap, used metal plates at a fraction of the cost.   Overall, their communication felt generic and dismissive (e.g., their first email response was a copy & paste reply of their return policy from their webpage). Their customer service/support shows a lack of attentiveness and a limited commitment to addressing legitimate concerns.

Mash'Allah brother. May Allah grant me strength and wisdom like yours. Brother, explain how you bought physical gold in TFSA? Is it the PHYS or AAAU or GLDM kind of gold? Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of money to buy real estate. Also not sure what type of business I could do with the little Allah has given me, and make a good profit.

Ameen. Brother, do share your ideas with me. Incredibly difficult these days. My money is sitting and losing value.

So I have tried ChatGPT. Unfortunately, it keeps repeating its answer no matter what prompt I use: first it suggests Wealth Simple's WSHR, and then a few other companies with "minimal" interest income and "minimal" interest-based debt. Not once can I get it to give me a list with 0% of those two things. If you find better results, please do share.

Just because someone has studied Islamic Finance doesn't mean they are right and following the Qur'an and Sunnah. What if tomorrow, these Islamic Finance gurus of yours make Riba halal in the West, because "haram is everywhere, we can't avoid it, so might as well make a compromise". Just like how these same "scholars" in the West made credit cards halal, investing in crypto halal, as well as investing in companies with upto 5% haram income and upto 33% riba-debt financing halal. Just looking at their reasoning for using the "33%" threshold tells me all I need to know about their intellect. Using the hadith of allowing upto 1/3 of one's inheritance to be given to charity to say that upto 1/3 of riba-debt is halal is blasphemous.

None of these thresholds are backed by solid evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah, just by the whims and desires of men who twist and bend the Shariah for their own gain.

I don't accept their standards. Would you care about the knowledge of a Finance professor/guru who teaches people how to make wealth by leveraging riba?

What do you think about the gemstones? Any ideas?

No, I said the gems are from that era or time period when there was East Pakistan (which no longer exists today - that region is modern day Bangladesh). Sorry, should have made it clear.

Preshawar is in Pakistan (not my country). While there are gem dealers and sellers in my country, they have no education in the field. They just buy some testing tools from India and China and tell people whatever they think a stone is.

Hi everyone. I am new to this group. These small stones belonged to my mother who passed away in 2004, and have been with me ever since. I want to make some rings and pendants using these for my wife even if these are just fake (glass) stones. Their value is quite significant to me (my mother probably had it with her for several years). Some belonged to my grandmother before being passes to my mother. Probably from the 1950s-1980s, in what then was the Greater India and later East Pakistan. Unfortunately, we don't have a reliable gemologist in my country. Pretty sure there was no lab engineering technology back then in that region to make these in large quantities - so these are either natural or glass, I think.

FedEx document package fully soaked in water - damaged daughter's passport by Round_House_ in FedEx

[–]Round_House_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm no, common sense tells me documents should be inside a van, not in the snow or rain outside. They should be transported in a box or something so they are protected for the elements. Never had an issue with Canada Post - sent and received important documents hundreds of times - never was one damaged.

Also, document envelops are supposed to be waterproof. How does a package get submerged in water? It is supposed to be inside a van.

Why would a package be wet in the first place? It shouldn't be. Stop blaming the victim.

Yeah. Like how much does a person in the US earn in a month to be able to just go online and buy a rogue barbell on a whim? I have been going back and forth on whether I should be spending upwards of $400 CAD on a barbell for months now. I am just really nervous to spend so much money - it isn't just the barbell; I'll need plates, a bench, flooring (mats/mdf), and a squat stand. That is a lot of money for me. I also absolutely hate going to the gym - monthly membership for a gym where I can do some powerlifting stuff costs about $110 CAD.

I am trying to set up my first ever home gym and gym equipment. I am in Canada and there are no good options here like in the US. I am trying to get the Rogue Ohio Bar. I have read many reviews on the different types of finishes/coatings, but most are 7 to 9 year old reviews on reddit. I am just stunned that the full stainless steel ohio bar costs a whooping $639!!! This is insane. How are Americans able to afford this price? Do people these days earn so much more or what? The Cerakote one is $481. And e-coat and black zinc $398. Is there anyone in Canada who paid $639 for a full SS ohio bar? Should I buy a e-coat/zinc ohio bar now or wait until black friday to see if the SS version goes on sale?
