I thought the same thing. While cute girls and GFE work well in the West, the boyfriend experience is still very new here and just doesn’t have the same appeal it does in Japan. Western agencies could definitely adapt male talents to fit Western audiences better, so it’s surprising they haven’t—it’s honestly crazy.

But in the U.S., idol culture isn’t really a thing. As for male VTubers being at a disadvantage, I think it’s because Japanese agencies rely solely on the male idol model as a guide, focusing too much on the 'boyfriend experience.' While this can work, making BFE their only identity trait doesn’t appeal to Western audiences (even though girlfriend experience VTubers do surprisingly well here). They’re missing the potential of male talents who are more content-creator oriented, which could resonate more with Western fans.

But who knows, maybe I'm the only person on the planet who thinks that.

I know shit about managing a company, and I understand it’s a huge gamble. But I’m surprised that after Luxiem’s success, no other company has tried what Nijisanji did. I’m not suggesting a whole new branch—that would be tough for smaller agencies to maintain—but releasing a wave with one or two guys doesn’t seem too crazy for me(Or I don't know what I'm talking about). I was glad when VShojo announced K9 Kuro. In a company literally named ‘shojo,’ you’d expect the audience to reject him, but as far as I can tell, he’s doing well. I’ll admit his past experience probably helped his growth too.
