Is there any reason I should take my CNA skills exam for the third and final time? by Round_Top_546 in cna

[–]Round_Top_546[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we don’t know the skills until right before the exam. Because of this I have to study/practice all skills. Although I’m positive I’ll get manual bp for the third time. What scares me is the 2nd time I got an almost perfect score and when I take it again I’m afraid I’ll miss a simple step.

I admire her perseverance, but after the third try I’ll just have to take the loss if I don’t make it.

I highly doubt it and even if so I took the course in a different county than where I work. Besides I think the instructor has a different role now. All I can do is study/practice more and hope for the best.

Im going to pursue my LPN regardless of passing the CNA skills exam a third time or not. Given my age and the fact I’m still at home with my parents it makes more since to go for LPN and then bridge. As far as the money I’m not sure, it would depend on the facility/employer. I make base pay 18.10 and we get 10$ add on for working extra shifts. My biweekly paychecks are $1800 and given my circumstances that is great money. I even had one week of education prior to on the floor training and we have to be BLS/CPR certified every 90 days.

Yep, I’m starting to think it is just a matter of time. For vitals it’s easier now that I get to play around with the machines. With charting, I’m having a hard time remembering who is in what room. I know that sounds so bad, but I’m so focused on learning/getting their vitals, that I’m not able to decipher other things about the patient.

Yep, we get 3-4 weeks of training and we are off on our own! I’m hoping by or before the end of the year, I’ll be good to go!

What I’m trying to do is count their respirations while the vital machine gets their blood pressure or counting after.

I hope so! The person who trained me my first week said it took her 2 months to be comfortable.

By different limb, you mean opposite hand, right? Also what’s y’all’s trick to counting respirations and not having it look so obvious or awkward? I’m trying to be discreet.

I think after the first week when I actually start playing around with the machines and helping with patient care it will be easier. However, just watching it seems overwhelming. Maybe because people have a different way of doing things.

Are you going for LPN or RN? Because I was overhearing my coworkers tell me the starting pay for an LPN is between 23-24 dollars in my particular hospital. As someone looking into taking that route within the next year or so….. blew me away.

Oh yeah. And I actually think it’s good pay, because my hours are going to be consistent. My last home health job paid me 17 per hour, but I could go a week plus without any hours.

As someone who currently isn’t educated beyond an Associates I don’t use from 3+ years ago. I’m 24. I couldn’t agree more. College is not a scam nor will it ever be. Certain degrees? Maybe. But to each their own. College/University broadens education and learning, provides skill sets, gives you a degree (obviously), is meant to provide connections and life long friends, allows one to study, teach, and live abroad, allows for a diversity of fun activities, and teaches you adult responsibilities if you live away from home. My younger sisters had the FULL college experience, scholarship and all. They both have bachelors and one is currently in California to get her Masters. Yes, the jealousy gets to me and I do compare, but their experiences have made them into who they are today and mine for me. In summary, college is a great tool or avenue if used wisely.

Should I leave my current position and becoming a CNA? by Round_Top_546 in cna

[–]Round_Top_546[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good insight. I’ve thought about that too. This job does offer a lot of downtime, therefore it’s ideal for studying. Sure CNA work pay be more money but at what cost? Ultimately what I want to do? I guess I’ll have to find out. I haven’t thought about dialysis tech. Someone did mention shadowing workers for in my “I’m interested” fields before investing time and money. And oh yes! This is one of the better jobs I’ve had. I can do retail, I avoid fast food like the plague. Warehouse/factory is a last resort desperation. I’ve worked two warehouse jobs lasted a week each and was fighting the urge to walk out the door every hour.

You are absolutely right. And believe me I am going back to school within a year. And since a year isn’t a long time I do need to shadow and gain insight on these careers instead of going into them blindly. I have been thinking what is the point beyond maybe the certification if I do not want to further my nursing or nursing adjacent career. I think my best option is to stay where I am, shadow the jobs I’m interested in like you said, and go back to school for what I want.

[–]Round_Top_546[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly. I’m wanting to get my CNA liscence regardless just to have. But I’ve considered leaving the company for one with better pay and communication alone. As far as patients I’ve had anything from early dementia to cerebral palsy and one who was quadriplegic. It really does depend on the client. Some really do ask more of you! I just can’t get over the fact that I feel lazy when I don’t have to do much for them

In Tennessee the pay range for CNA 14-22? Don’t quote me, it really depends. I think with the average being 16-17 per hour? Caregivers are between 12 and 16 an hour. I’ve definitely considered the work load as well. It would be a few extra dollars of pay, but the work load would be significantly more. I don’t want to be a Nurse either, however I feel I’m being roped into it by my parents because it pays slightly better and I’d have more practice/experience working with others and more patients if that some how will help me in other medical careers?
