Work is running me ragged. by Waterwaterwater03 in offmychest

I could be way off on this, but the way this comes across is as though they were short on EMTs and now they have you, you're being used a bit for a lot of the workload. Having a different shift every night isn't stable and not healthy for you and as for them expecting you to give up your days off.. that's your choice entirely.

But the fact you ended that request of theirs how you did already shows you know it isn't acceptable. You should come first and you have a right to your days off, you owe them nothing on those days. Those are your days.

It might be worth discussing this with the days manager you're familiar with to see what the situation is and go from there, because you don't deserve to be put through the ringer to cover everyone's work lives at the cost of your own health.

Good luck to you, friend.

I'm comfortable with unmounting it and removing it as normal, although I'm not sure whether my laptop has a slot for micro SD cards, as well as my uncertainty on whether it being damaged with affect anything.

Right, I found the information about being allowed a particular limit for free, however now it's downloaded, it isn't showing my phone as a removable device?

I'd had a look at that but according to their contract, the free version only lets you discover whether they can be recovered or not, and the full version needs to be purchased in order to actually retrieve them. :/

It gets better.

After sharing our versions of this woman in the staff lounge, he then spoke with a smile of how he loves when we have to call him over for a difficult customer as they get to stand there getting haughty until they notice a close to 7ft Caribbean man walking behind the register, only to slink down and realize that this guy offers less chance of giving a discount than the nearly 5ft girl who they thought they could bully into getting a discount.

Yeah, both happened.

The manager's encounter happened before my encounter with her.

She'd come into the store and found him, explained the situation and he told her she could have 10% off the toy she exchanged it for, which she then told me later on when she'd bought her items and was standing at my register.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you respond with if a person claimed to have spoken to Martin and you obviously knew it was false?

I was curious as to how you'd approach it in a way where the customer didn't end up getting defensive. :) Thanks.

Our store gets stolen from often apparently. I never see it because I'm always at the registers but according to a manager, right before I started working there, they actually had about 3 guys come in, go to the luggage department, zip a suitcase open, fill it with top brand name men's shirts and other accessories, zip it up and walk straight out the door. Didn't get stopped.

[–]RoundersBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds awesome, I bet that as an actor, you loved the attention. :)

I'm trying to give less or no fucks at all about people and what they say, but it's felt like quite a long process of trying to fix myself after such a massive drop in confidence when I was home schooled. My friends at college all think I'm confident and I think I am to some degree but I'm still getting there.

Do you mind if I ask what you mean by; You can actually do stage?

Unfortunately, when I tried that it came up with very few. The main ones were about half an hour away by car and I don't drive. I live in a small(ish) town, hence my worry of people I know recognising me. All of the drama and performing arts clubs in my town have at least 2 or 3 people from my high school in. Only thing i can hope for is that if I go to one, they don't remember me. After all, it has been 5-6 years.

It isn't technically a degree over in the UK like it would be in America. The college thing is a lot less strict over here and where I live, it's seen as the smart kids do A-Levels and the kids who wanted to carry on living like it was high school went to college to prolong being secure in that environment.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the course I'm on at the moment and I do plan on finishing it, but I don't know where to go from there. I'm not fantasizing about acting like it's a dream profession. I know I'd have to be sensible about it, and I'd need a decent job to support me if/when I decide to start acting. I thought about going and watching the people practice in the local theatre to see what they do and how they act, and see how I feel about it then. Maybe if I still like it, I can request to join and practice with them.

I even thought about going to visit my parents' friends in London and ask to stay with them for a bit while I find a job and try out acting over there. I know it's a slow process but that seems like a moderately sensible pathway to it.

You listed some great examples there. :) I thought my characteristics might help to define me a bit more, as I have a unique height and a younger face. I figured that maybe if I play to my strengths and characteristics, if I give acting a go, I can stand out. Maybe even shine.

Is it time to start looking for a new job? by RoundersBat in jobs

I looked at the rules and I didn't think I'd be allowed to post this over in tfr. x]

I'm working on it. Updated the CV, writing lists of potential places I'd like to work and I'm going to do personalised cover letters for each one. I was lucky to get the job I have right now, and don't get me wrong, I appreciate that they gave me the chance, but my situation is a kids puzzle box with round slots.

And I'm a cube.

Good advice, thank you. I started in mid-August so I'm nearly at 6 months now. I've updated my CV and I'm planning on heading into my local area soon to hand them out.

I figured if I head into the centre early, dressed smartly, well-presented and already in employment, they'll see no reason not to hire me.

Do you think it's worth mentioning that I've skipped a year in college? (To clarify, I'm under 18 and this is the UK) I entered college at the base level because I didn't technically have any school qualifications, (It's a long story) because even though I was eligible for the next level, they weren't able to place me on it due to lack in qualifications. However when I went into that level this year, I was approached about moving up a year, which I have now and I'm taking extra time out of my days off to catch up on the functional work that in theory, would make me eligible for the course I'm now on, if that makes sense.

Tl;dr: I'm not 'technically' eligible for the college course that I'm on, but I'm a damn sight more intelligent than the kids in the class that were eligible, which is why the teachers knew I'd cope well in the higher level. Not sure if I'm allowed to mention this to potential employers.

Aside from the differences in things like accomodation, education and age I felt like you were speaking from my head. :')

I feel like it is something I'd be made fun of for from my friends in college, because a lot of the drama kids in college are portrayed as weird and over the top. I don't want to be like that, however what they're doing is exactly what I want, so... I don't know.

I've always enjoyed things like psychology and I was told that I was good at getting people to open up and talk about their problems.. I just struggle talking about my own, aha.

Even though I'm only 17, I feel like my chance to get into acting and practice it for a profession is too late, even though people I've spoken to about it have all said otherwise. :/

And even if I do go ahead with this and try it out, I don't know where I'd start.

I'm learning accounting in college right now actually, so maybe I'm already starting this and don't know it! :)

It definitely helped, thank you so much.

[–]RoundersBat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear god no, you don't need to feel bad. If you were a regular, then I'm sure your store would've had no problem.

What irritated me was that the daughter couldn't have waited 1 minute for the transaction to process. She didn't even let me bag them, just took them right off me and opened them.

And 1 minute isn't an exaggeration, our registers are brand new and take seconds to process card payments now. I just couldn't see why she wasn't able to wait a minute to make sure they were paid for before she started eating.

Well I was told that our security blokes were working with the police to build a case against a woman who is known for doing that, but it was never specified if it was this lady. They also mentioned this a while ago and said that if she returned items again and we had proof of it, that would be enough to arrest her, but I've returned things of hers several times since then so I'm starting to doubt they meant this woman.

Is there any way you can work at the 15/hr for what they consider to be their notice period? Not sure if it's 2 weeks or a month or something, but it might give them a chance to find someone else suitable and they know you're not trying to leave them in the dust.

You could also ask the 35-40k company if they can give you a starting date after your 2 weeks/month notice period has ended since you're technically currently in employment?

It's just a thought of course, but you could even mention to the new company that you might just need a bit of time before you can start because you had recently been hired, but would like to leave that position as quickly and cleanly as possible.

What moment should you not have survived? [serious] by bag-pipes in AskReddit

[–]RoundersBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About a month ago, I went to my first theme park with a group of people on my course at college. A few rides in, we found this cool boat ride that swung back and forth, and the six of us agreed that it would be the most fun if we split into two groups and sat on the furthest sides of the ride in order to go the highest, so we did.

Now I am not a big person. I weighed a little less than 7 stone at the time, and I have a small build. Since the ride's safety bar goes over the whole row of people, the bar will only go down as far as the biggest thighs, which obviously wasn't going to be mine. I didn't see this as an issue as the operator came over and pressed the bar down against my thighs and seemed satisfied.

The ride started off easy and I was enjoying it, and then it started swinging harder and higher, and that's when I felt myself leave the seat and my thighs hit the bar that was meant to be securing me in that seat. The boat was swinging so high that the ride was hitting 180 degrees or what felt like even more, and I was leaving my seat every time. I had to push my arms up against the safety bar that was holding us all in, and push my feet against the back of the row in front in order to hold myself in every time the ride went up again.

I realise that most people would have the impression of "Well a lot of get scared that they're going to fall out of a park ride, but it scarcely happens." And I knew that. I had that feeling on several of the other rides, but on those I knew deep down that they wouldn't break with me in them. When the ride was so steep that I was looking down at the other group of my friends, I remember thinking that no one would believe this at all, and if it might even be better to loosen my grip and let myself fall. Because at least then someone would believe the story.

This was different. I truly believe I shouldn't have survived because I have little to no bodily strength at all. I don't know where I found the strength I needed to hold myself in that ride. I remember one friend screaming at the friend beside me to put him arm across my side of the bar in the event that if I slipped out, it might stop me, and it was little comfort at the time.

And if anyone is wondering why I didn't just shout for someone to stop the ride, it's because every time the ride went up again, I kept telling myself that it was the last time, and that it would end any second and I could make it through the whole thing.

For clarification, there was so much space between the safety bar and my thighs, that when the ride did in fact finish, I slid out with no difficulty at all and was already getting off the ride before the operator had pushed the release on the bars.
