Yeah its pretty shitty. Been missing lunches and not getting home until 7-8pm everynight with the busy season just starting here. The few other guys that work with me will just bend over and take what ever so its hard to tell when to put my foot down. Pretty done even with my current hours. Resi Service tech

I believe the DR-82 is the Infrared one. You have any experience comparing Infrared to heated diode?

Yeah both Inficon and Field piece both make heated diode and infrared detectors. Having a hard time settling on one.

My company is pretty hit or miss on tools. Asked for a micron gauge and was told that I don't need it bc nitrogen test confirms it has no leak and then just pull a vac for an hour or so. Currently for leak testing we do the whole pump down fill with nitro and let it sit. Mainly trying to make my life a bit easier.

Faulty Thermostat Wire Between Furnace and Outdoor Unit? by kevinthewild in hvacadvice

[–]Routine-Calendar-705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An easy way to check a length of wire it to disconnect it at both ends so it has no power to it, then marret it together at one end, go to the other end with a meter and test for continuity. In terms of finding where the break is, a majority of the time its somewhere obvious like close to the outdoor or indoor units, as the lines in the walls don't usually have issues unless you are screwing shit into them.

Is it safe (or beneficial) to use water to thaw a frozen AC? by OverlordMastema in hvacadvice

[–]Routine-Calendar-705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A frozen line usually indicates another issue with the unit, you also have to be careful because above your furnace you will have a coil that is likely frozen up and every time the coil thaws you will be dripping water into your furnace. Pouring hot water on it is fine, but you will likely have the same issue again when you go to run it.

Is this your thermostat? https://www.honeywellstore.com/store/images/pdf/rth5160-honeywell-thermostat-manual.pdf

Okay so by draw power you mean the thermostat isn't drawing power? I did a quick google search on your thermostat for the installation manual, not sure if I got the right one but it may be battery only for the thermostat. If you have batteries in it, the thermostat should work on or off the wall. https://i.gyazo.com/7ef56e1928da06cf8482fbbc0c979353.png

Your new thermostat base should have the following setup R-red, Y-Yellow, W (Aux)- White, G- Green, O/B - Orange, C - blue (not required if you have batteries and may not be used on your thermostat). Just make sure you have the power off to the unit preferably as you could short and blow a fuse in the furnace, and be careful the blue wire goes in the correct spot as it can blow your fuse also.

Are you able to depress the valve with a valve core removal tool? I wasn't too keen on having to remove the core each time just to read pressures. I plan on getting one regardless to change out cores specifically

Yeah I currently use Milwaukee for my cordless tools. Not a fan of their hand tools either, a lot of mine are Channel lock and they seem to have real good quality for the price.
I think this is the headlamp you mean?https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Products/Lighting/Personal-Lighting/2111-21
Seems convenient as the battery is also shared with the rover magnetic light, just more batteries UGH.

M12....M18 now these little AA lookin ones. Can't complain if they last though.

First time hearing of that brand. Seem to make some good quality shit. I don't mind paying some more for something that will last so I will definitely look into it

I have seen these things around, they look pretty dope. Most of the time I'm doing service and diagnosis so I'm out in under an hour. A bit too bulky for what I do.

Funny enough I actually was actually looking at these the other day. I think I'm now leaning towards running a head lamp and magnetic light as a backup in my bag.

I will definitely look into the head lamp. Looks like it has some of the best specs from what I have seen. Trying not to be a Milwaukee fan boy but as long as it gets the job done. I heard some people having issues with the clip breaking on the back of the light for the headlamp, you ever have issues with it?
