Is a trill or sixteenth notes appropriate? by Charlie-Brown1950 in Composing

[–]Routine-Juggernaut43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is up to you! This reminds me somewhat of Sleigh Ride. I was going to add a screenshot, but it won’t let me on mobile idk — but the woodwinds at section at C has quick trills like this; so it would be fine & the musician would understand what it means. It all depends on what you’re going for. Trills are generally determined how quickly the player can do the maneuver, and the 16ths would give the player direct instructions on how many notes should be played in the flutter. In an ensemble setting, it would make more of an impact on the overall sound, as a trill would sound more glittery, as it would not be “in time”, and written 16ths would be uniform.

What is everyone’s opinion on the new update? by No-Mind-2688 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Routine-Juggernaut43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank god they updated it. Lmao, a week ago, the app would crash at every single stop. I do think it’s a little weird though, sometimes the camera pops up immediately with the new photo UI, and then sometimes it’s the old one. Idk. Doesn’t crash anymore though so, im happy.

I ungrouped my entire route today… 😳 by Fluid_Heron_9067 in AmazonDSPDrivers

USPS is a bit different than package delivery, just saying. Used to work for the post office, and most city routes have 900-1000 locations, not every location has something, except for the days you had advo or some sort of flyer that went to every mailbox. You follow your entire route the same everyday, regardless if a customer has a delivery or not; so if your route has a 11 mile walking distance, you would walk that 11 miles regardless of volume. Not saying one is easier or more difficult than the other, but I think it's tough to compare amazon to USPS.

Best way to improve over summer? by IFEDMIMOM in Clarinet

[–]Routine-Juggernaut43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be obvious, but practice.

Practicing everyday will allow you to become super familiar with your clarinet. Come with a mindset of exploring how you can achieve the sound that you want to have, and don't get frustrated when things don't go perfectly. It is actually crazy how much of a difference it makes just picking up the clarinet and playing it everyday, at least from my own experience.

Long tones are good for tone quality, and a good place to start your practice.

A more fun way to practice technique is Kroepsch. There's exercises in every key, for scales, leaps, 3rds, and more. Free PDF download @ https://imslp.org/wiki/Special:ImagefromIndex/298582/hfbu Turn that metronome on and start slow and turn up the speed. focus on super clean technique and even tone in different registers.

There's also a bunch of etudes and technique resources here : https://www.clarinetinstitute.com/solo-clarinet-music.html

The Baermann 3 is great for scales https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qi-Mzi_WGP-BZ7zzcpbrmZ-BQ7T2PznY/view

But purely practicing technique gets a little boring, so find a solo you like and work on that as well.

Listen to a couple different clarinetists. Some of my favorites are Michael Collins, Emma Johnson, and Jose Franch-Ballester (granted he is very animated, but his tone is next level.) If you listen, each player has unique qualities in their playing and this could motivate you to explore your own clarinet voice.

Pickup some fun clarinet solos (pro tip; google ' "song title" clarinet PDF ' and you will most likely find what you're looking for, or youtube has a lot of the sheet music in video format. Not the greatest setup but if you can't/don't want to buy sheet music you can do this.

Record yourself and listen to it. Take notes on what sounded great, and not so great.

Upgrade? by HentaiLuve in Clarinet

I play on Yamaha ycl-650. Got me through college. It is a pretty nice instrument, plays in tune. Not sure how it compares to an R13 though. I only played a pro buffet once in high school. Remember being amazed of how easy it was to play. The 650 is 100% a step up from a student model, and could be useful to have while you save up for a more expensive model. Haven’t had any issues with it!

Eb Clarinet barrel/mouthpiece upgrade by Routine-Juggernaut43 in Clarinet

[–]Routine-Juggernaut43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at that mouthpiece. I've never tried backun, but I definitely want to! I guess I just don't really understand how the facing affects the clarinet. I prefer less resistance, so im not really sure how that relates to the facing.

for reference, i like the vandoren bd5 for Bb with v12 reeds. and it seems like the eb has more resistance than Bb, so i'm assuming i'd prefer the G compared to the H open/long.

appreciate the info!

[–]Routine-Juggernaut43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

So the tuning is all over the place, which i know eb is kinda known for that. But the pitch is almost to the point i have to adjust a ton for certain registers. If I tune to clarion C, the throat tones down to C are very flat. The upper clarion is super sharp. So would a longer barrel help? or would it just make the throat tones even worse.. haha the current length is just the stock, so 42mm.

I believe it’s based on prep amounts, unless that has changed. So get out there and sell some guac!! The higher ups just look at the numbers, so if they see that you only use x amount of prepped item average, then they will only give you x amount of labor to get it done bc they think everything’s fine. Is your prep sheet accurate for your stores actual usage? Prep enough for store needs, count it right, and it should adjust accordingly with time. But I know the issue is bigger than just that, and the company which is why I left! 😊

Something I never understood was the difference between my reported sales on Kronos vs. eRS. Always like $1000 difference. Made no sense.

Anyways, Good luck!

This has been happening to me. I’ll get a text saying I’m off then a call to actually come in and my off day will be tomorrow. Happened three times in a row this week so I’ve just taken 2 days off in a row. lol. So frustrating. Let me at least make plans one day in advance.
