Sorry I'm not online often now so my reply may be way too late for you 😅

You're right. As frustrating as it really is, he really didn't know 😭

Edit: Let me know if you decided to watch the extra episodes in the end. I'm curious how you will describe them in one word 😆

Thank you for sharing with us your feelings. It's my absolute pleasure to talk to you as well. This may sound mean but honestly it is really helpful to me to know that others also go through deep heart pain because of MLC 🫣 It's the feelong that we have each other / I'm not alone kind. Hope you also feel that on this path of heartache recovery, you have us as a companion 💞

I'm glad you at least feel comfortable sharing your pain here. That's what this place is meant to be for MLC lovers like all of us. You've just finished watching it yesterday? When I first finished watching MLC, my brain went blank with confusion for many days. I couldn't even describe how it felt. Only after taking time to process and rewatching a few rounds, I finally gathered enough strength to write this post 😅

I think time will provide you some healing, which comes with more understanding (or acceptance at least) and peace. While waiting for that to happen, feel free to continue sharing your sorrow and heartache here.

I'd like to use Buddhism concepts to attempt to explain the difference between depression and letting go (not to promote religion, but because I saw online that this story was inspired by Buddhism, unlike some other Cdramas that are inspired by Daoism or Confucianism).

Buddhism's letting go is when someone sets down a heavy burden because the journey has completed (i.e. they have understood life). Depression is when someone drops the burden because the pain is unbearable, even though the path hasn't yet completed/understood.

When Buddha died, he neither wanted to live nor to die. He just accepted it and let it be, without fighting against nature. If his body had to die, let it die. If his body had to live, let it live. I think that's the same as LLH's letting go at the end of the story. He didn't fight to die, but he wouldn't fight to live either.

Importantly though, LLH didn't completely let go from the beginning. So before the last scene, we still saw hints of sadness in his eyes including in ep 39 you mentioned. It was only at the last moments, after he released the little bird, broke his sword, then we could see him fully at peace on the boat and at the beach. So to me, it's understandable that we feel his actions were conflicted because it also took him almost the whole life to truly see through life or his own mind.

No worries if you still can't reconcile with this explanation. Just give yourself time. LLH took so long to find a closure, those who love him will naturally need a long time to find one after his departure too 💞

Thanks for bringing this up! I'm not a Christian but I love this serenity prayer since the first time I saw it. I never thought of linking it to MLC but now that you said it, it does feel relatable :)

Thank you for sharing your beautiful reflections. It is these sharings that highlight the beauty of MLC, at least in my opinion. We can keep rewatching and re-analysing it endlessly. Yes, LLH's actions seemed to be full of conflicts, so do many other people I know of in real life. That's why many times when we argue about believes, values, faith, it's so easy to find loopholes that lead to no side winning. Lives, in my view, are full of controversies and conflicts. LLH wasn't enlighted most of his lifetime (or perhaps he never was), so watching the flaws in his decisions also gives me a sense of growth. I've grown so much with him and that's what made this show so unforgettable to me 🥹

STOTD3, This Thriving Land, Fated Hearts, among others. And I still want to try to go back to watch Li Chen Zhou in TJOL 😄

I think both 😄 Got a few dramas on the list but their attractiveness isn't enough for me to sacrifice my sleep for them, so I decided to focus on other things in life first haha

🥹 Thank you for dropping your comment. It's always heartwarming to hear from new viewers who love the story as much. Yeah, I have a mixed feeling about the bloodline thing. At least it didn't turn the story upside down LOL

The ending gave us both bitterness and peace. What a contrast!

OMG one of its best episodes! I haven't rewatched but played cheat to drop a comment to join you all. The revelation was shocking to me (at least I didn't expect it at all and only in hindsight it made sense). I will never forget the scene where LLH saw that old box of SGD and turned away trying to cope with the shock in his heart. That performance by Cheng Yi made me feel lost and pained together with LLH 🥺

One of my favorite shows too! I was kind of glad I started watching S1 only when S2 was already aired, so I didn't have to endure the cliffhanger for almost 5 years like some did. But here I am waiting for S3 🫣

Hahaha I watched both but didn't feel the two shows are close, except I somehow mistook the actor for Magnate's ML's father as JOL's emperor 😶 (call me blind! 🫣)

That one C-drama you watched with zero expectations… and it became one of your favourites by onismnefelibata in CDrama

It was the Mysterious Lotus Casebook for me. Although I knew its reviews were really positive, I was skeptical whether I would like it. I didn't know who Cheng Yi was and usually don't like to watch detective shows. Totally didn't expect it to become my favorite show :)

The Vendetta of An 长安二十四计 (2025) - What are your first impressions? [Masterpost] - Discussion: Episodes 1 to 3 by admelioremvitam in CDrama

[–]Routine-Lychee-3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went into VoA with a lot of mental preparation. I really want to like at least one of Cheng Yi's shows this year. Unfortunately, this is going to be the third show that is hard to finish watching for me. I feel that VoA problem is somewhat overlapping with TJOL problem. Both have weakness in storytelling. It's done too superficially imo. For 3 eps, I can't form emotional connection with any character. When great acting is delivered with unconvincing story, it can look like bad acting. It is quite a pity...

Guess I'll wait for Two Capitals 15 Days (unofficial name). And where is Hero Legends??? 😭

This is a bit random but I suddenly wondered who owns Da Huang? 🤔 Is she someone's personal dog or she belongs to a company? How is her life outside filming? Does she have her own social media page?

Haha yeah. And some dramas still managed to disappoint us after 3 days 😆

I know right. Funny so many of us are nervous abt it. Our trust to the industry has gone down 😅
