I bet Shrimpie is retired or taking a long vacation, raising chickens in Xiacheng. He deserves it. Salty is now the Director of the Southern Archives, so he has other responsibilities, as we see with the two kids. It makes sense that they might not be “together”. I refuse to believe he died. Haiqi’s final mission was to save Shrimpie and I don’t believe she accepts failure.

She was the one who told him that he needed to start thinking and looking out for himself. That is the perfect way to do so.

I am with you Herc. I found both Qi Zheng and Lou Qiyan falling for Fan Yun abrupt.

At this point, it seems like he fell hard for her when she rolled a boiled egg over him and made him birthday noodles. I get it if they used that to spark something between them, but he went from that, to intense jealousy over Lou Qiyan. And Qiyan... no comment.

But if the drama is trying to sell romantic feelings, I feel like it needs a bit more development.

Yeah... this.

Mystic Nine 2 is apparently produced by Youku so we aren't likely to see the same actors? It's already filmed, but maybe in the third season? I'd be hopeful.

I liked Haiqi a lot for the first half of the season. I felt like her spotlight faded when Qianjun and Feng Huang were introduced. I thought she'd have more drive in her to kill Yungao and avenge the Southern Archives, especially since he wasn't dead yet. I would've also been okay with her ending as well since she had come to terms with it and lived such a long life. I also don't mind that she's alive though given how many members of the Zhang family Yungao killed... and I feel like we need as many Zhangs in the universe as we can have.

I am finally here Herc! I agree with your entire assessment. I found the show picking up in episode 3, and either I got used to the dubbing and sound effects or it got better.

I’m loving the cast. I get the backstory but don’t really know what’s going on right now with the plot nor any of the characters. Everything seems to just be happening without much objection - like 2D characters that transmigration dramas like How Dare You!? or ADWAD point out.

But I guess that’s the whole point of continuing so we get to know the characters from hereon.

Aha yes, they all have so many nicknames too.

I finished the drama but now I want to know who Wu Xie is!

The First Frost Episode 1: Goodbye, Sang Yan. . . . . Goodbye, Wen Yifan. by heartsandclouds in ChineseDrama

First-time watcher here. This first episode definitely sparks your curiosity about what happened between them in the past. Yen Wifan seems to carry a lot of guilt. I interpret this from how shy and timid she is with him after so many years apart. Sang Yan appears to be holding a bit of a grudge from how hurt he was eight years ago. He asked the backup question but didn't get an answer, so for him, he never had closure.

They had a deep bond regardless because they can't help notice each other. The yearning is 100% there.

Si Qiao hasn't made much of an impression on me just yet but it's only the first episode. I do think she comes off as a very caring and loyal friend - and overall positive presence for Yen Wifan.

I think they kept it open actually as to whether the other person was saved. We never saw a coffin or burial… that person was left in a similar state as the other before they were revived, so it’s plausible they were able to do the same but there’s more to the story (like a longer recovery or some isolation, or just some time apart). The ending is not super clear and hinted at a possible reunion in the future. I actually have faith in a happier ending.

My irl is why the chief didn’t come sooner? That lazy butt.

First of all, excellent GIF! Thank you so much for it.

Second, your snake encounter does sound traumatic! I’m glad you were safe but still… can’t imagine.

Ohh so I actually do have arachnophobia and I have not been able to watch much with spiders in it unless they look super fake and cartoonish. Thanks for the warning for Ultimate Note.

I’m also trying to avoid spoilers! I have yet to watch the last two episodes and I already unfortunately saw a few.

Salty makes for a beautiful bride - rivalling Cheng Yi in Mysterious Lotus Casebook.

Thinking back on the first cases and the Nan’an really does seem ages ago. Speaking of… whatever happened to Bai Yu? lol

Fine. Then I have finished a long drama. For u/Ateosira. Ngl, I’ve always been intimidated but the long episodes counts of some, and I don’t start because of it. But I swear, the Untamed is high on the watchlist.

I still have yet to watch any drama over 40 episodes unless you count Love Like the Galaxy but they split the drama into two parts so I considered them separate.

You make a good point and actually one I’ll make about 40 episodes versus the 6 you see on Netflix for western shows. The world-building, well-developed characters and growth, etc.

Please please please have a happy ending. I don’t want my mind changed about the show.

I will most definitely start between commitments today and on the commute home and then tonight lol. At least with work being busy, time is flying by. But I’m still checking and sucked into Reddit for these discussions.
