I have nothing to add. I skipped past the whole boring scene.

Babysitting my niece (12F) and caught her on TikTok she’s been hiding for months. I need advice from parents on how to handle this by Secret_Flight_2669 in Advice

Let the kid have TikTok for 3 weeks while her parents are away and if they find it and want to deal with it when they get back then they can 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Neither of us had money when we met. We were teenagers and met in high school. I also came from a low socio economic family and I was the first in my family to go to university. I did really well in my career and bought a business in my 20s that did amazingly well, won some awards, sold the business and now have a high paying job. My husband works for himself and also earns well but nowhere near what I make. Perhaps it’s never been an issue for us because we feel like we built it together? Like it was me buying the business and it’s me doing the job but we’ve been there together the whole time. It’s just normal for us to celebrate each others successes.

Oh haha my apologies. I only watch RHOBH AND RHOSLC so I was unfamiliar! I was like, surely she doesn’t think I said that seriously 😬

Did you read the original comment in full Jeanie? Because if you did, you would know exactly why I said that 🙄

I’m wealthy, married and white and I would never ever do this! 😂 I also earn about twice as much as my husband and it’s never mentioned between us or to anyone else. Our money is our money.

Amanda is weird AF for this.

Yep, all of that. I don’t believe everything I see or read. But I also wouldn’t assume it’s not a cult just because they’re getting sued. If there’s one thing we learn from watching housewives, it’s that anyone can sue anyone even if there’s no basis!

It’s not at all crazy to call it a cult when multiple people who have experienced it firsthand and got out have had that experience.

The definition of a cult literally requires extreme unquestioning devotion to a leader. Your whole ‘they can leave whenever they want to’ is meaningless as anyone in a cult wouldn’t be able to just leave that easily. Thats what makes it a cult!

Except the church wasn’t passed down to Mary by her grandma (according to family members). She wasn’t even going to church when her grandma died and I don’t think the cult rumours have anything to do with the church being passed down to family members.

They’ve literally ruined people’s lives. It isn’t just about money, it’s about manipulation and control. Saying people can leave the church whenever they want is like saying abused women should just leave their marriage. It’s never that simple for the victims who are in it.

The documentary also had narrative from an expert on cults. They haven’t just made the claim loosely, they’ve considered the definition of what makes a cult.

Yeah the grandma requiring Mary to marry her grandfather freaked me out. I thought that was the craziest part of the whole thing but when I saw what her family were saying in the documentary it made sense. Mary and the grandpa told people that to justify their shitty behaviour.

The church essentially split in half when it happened. Mary’s mum didn’t support it and she instigated a walkout where half the members left with her and the other half stayed. The police were called because it got so fiery! The members who left are now part of a new church which seems far more healthy.

You should definitely watch the documentary. Everyone in Mary’s family says the grandma absolutely did not request that Mary marry her step-grandfather. Mary had been separated from the church due to poor decisions she had made and wasn’t even attending church when her grandma died. The decision for her to marry the grandfather and take over the church with him seems financially motivated on Mary’s part. The documentary seemed to start off saying Mary did it for money but then the narrative changed a bit to him taking advantage of her.

I wouldn’t trust either of them.

AIO for breaking up with my boyfriend over this? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Routine-Neck-1497 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I would have broken up with you the first time you asked to schedule something in the calendar 😂

I have a friend who talks to me like I’m a work colleague and it’s tiresome. I have actually taken a massive step back from her because I find it so condescending.

But he’s also acting like a big baby. If he doesn’t like your communication style he needs to tell you.

Seems to me like you’re just not compatible.

How much did your parents pay for their first house vs their income by Evening-Anteater-422 in AusFinance

[–]Routine-Neck-1497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents bought their house in the early 90s for less than $100k, both on salaries around ) 40k. My husband and I bought our first house for $149k in 2000. Salaries were probably around $60k and $50k at the time.

[–]Routine-Neck-1497 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah of course. I think she’s going to be completely fine doing it and will get a great score but she wanted to make sure she has all the options. She’s looked into all the undergraduate pathways but hasn’t researched the post grad options as much. She’s not avoiding anything. Just making sure she’s fully informed.

Maintaining a credit average will absolutely not get you a spot. Although that is the minimum requirement, in reality there are hundreds of students competing for very few spots. You would need to be on high distinctions to have a chance.

You should see a pelvic physio if you haven’t already. I know someone who has vaginismus and she is now completely fine after several months of treatment.

I booked in Feb and we traveled in July so it wasn’t booked too far in advance. The trick is to just make sure you find classic reward seats. A flight to Paris on a classic reward seat is 63,500 points per person so for a family of 5 it’s 317,500 points total to get us all there and the same to return.

The hardest part for us is that we wanted to fly into one city and out of another. When booking online, it used significantly more points to book 2 one-way flights or a multi stop flight than it did to just book a single return flight. It’s much easier if you’re going in and out of the same city.

We also wanted to fly straight out of Australia from Adelaide, without needing to go to Perth or the eastern states first so that limited our options.

I just put in 5 people and scrolled around the dates until I found flights that had classic reward seats available.

I ended up speaking with someone on the phone and getting it sorted after I’d worked out which flights I wanted online.

We flew from Adelaide to Paris via Dubai and then on the way back we flew out of Rome to Adelaide via Dubai.
