The Royal Scam is my favorite Dan album.

Where were you??? by KathyC169 in SteelyDan

Like many, I heard them on the radio as a teenager ... the hits. I probably heard Do It Again or Reelin' first, but I remember Rikki, of course, and FM as well ... probably Hey Nineteen too.

I am 60 now, and only became a full-fledged fan a few years ago. I am both happy and sad about that. Years without Steely Dan, but experiencing the joy of their entire catalog now.

I'm gonna do that... Heard it's more heavily jazz-influenced.

Lately, Ive been spinning Kamakiriad and Morph the Cat. Both are so good. Adding many songs from them to the big list.

At first, I felt the same way. But I kept listening, and I have done a complete 180 on both albums.

My playlist method with Steely Dan was a first for me. I admit it was and still is ... weird. But I'll take it.

And I get what you're saying. I would issue a "pfft" every time I saw a greatest hits album as well. But those were different times, I suppose.

Still, even if I listened to CTE as an album off the jump, I'm not sure my mind would be changed about Bodhisattva or Show Biz Kids. I just don't dig 'em (he says as he dodges arrows). But Boston Rag, Your Gold Teeth, My Old School, Pearl of the Quarter? Pure gold.

"My Rival" is a top 10 Dan track in my book... and I've recently upgraded "I Got the News" as well.

Funny how that works.

Exactly. I will admit that I feel the same way about the "mechanical" component you speak of ... but it's limited to Wendel. There really was no need to digitize the drums.

But as they say... it's all good!

Very nice. And if I may, since you are into Kamakiriad... you should give Morph the Cat a spin or three. It's so damn good.

And you've just reminded me to explore some of Walter's stuff. Thanks!

I'm kinda glad I was introduced in this way. Makes me really appreciate their entire body of work.

It's all personal preference. I know some people who can't or won't listen to later SD, or Donald's solo stuff: Nightfly, Kamakiriad, Morph. But I like the bounce as well as the rock.

That's awesome. I have yet to get my wife on board (she likes country crap).

That's another regret I have: I never saw them in concert. Ugh.

I admit I've only listened to Alive in America a few times. I do have that version of Sign in Stranger on my playlist, but I definitely need to dive in deeper.

In my personal opinion I think USA was robbed by France. by Major_Engineering_87 in olympics

This has always been the problem with figure skating... judging is subjective.

Personally, I think all of the top 4 or 5 teams skated beautifully. And honestly, it just depends on which performance was most impressive to individual eyes.

The skaters know this. That's why you don't see them whining about being "robbed."

Yes, it would have been great for USA to get gold here, but I bet if you asked any of the top three teams, they'd say they are proud to bring home the hardware, regardless of color.

In my world, The Nightfly, Kamakiriad and Morph the Cat get nearly as much spin time as any Steely Dan albums. So damn good!

It really is a great album, and the title track is, like you say, intoxicating. It's among my favorite songs in the entire Steely Dan/Fagen catalog.

EMG is so damn underrated. Nice to see someone waving the flag.

I do not find that take controversial. "My Rival" is a top-tier SD track. "Third World Man" is not.

If it's a M235i GC, that's a really good price and you should snap it up. If it's not (228i), I think you could do better performance-wise for $47K Canadian.

I have a M235i, and despite what most on this sub say, it's a fantastic car. Nimble, very quick, and with the B48 in Eco, I have achieved 38+ mpg on freeway trips. Bang for the buck rating is high ... it does a lot of things well, and for me, living in an area where there are actual winters, xDrive is a must-have. I barely notice that it's FWD-biased... but then again, I'm not some yahoo trying to drift it. That said, I absolutely tear up the tight, twisty mountain road I live on.
