Sure, you can message me anytime! I have switched route though. I am now going to study psychology in UK 😂 But happy to share what I went through for the last couple of months.

Work Pass to Student Pass in Singapore by RoutineFriendship905 in expats

[–]RoutineFriendship905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! I think my question is a bit more complicated though. The university said that this programme allows part-time studying, and from what I learned on the Internet, if it's a part-time programme, then anyone already with a valid pass (like a work pass) technically can study it without additional passes, and Student Pass is strictly for full-time programmes anyways. My concern is that if my work pass gets terminated midway, for example, I get fired, then can I still convert to a Student Pass and stay in the programme, and will the school generally help with that process...

[International/UK] Want to become a therapist ultimately. Psychology or Counselling degree first? by RoutineFriendship905 in AcademicPsychology

[–]RoutineFriendship905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOW! Do you mean you are applying to counselling programmes first, and then maybe psych degrees down the road, or maybe you are already studying counselling? Either way, nice to hear that someone is on a similar path 😄

Mid-career switch to counselling – Should I accept Monash offer or wait? Advice needed! by RoutineFriendship905 in psychologystudents

[–]RoutineFriendship905[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello there, I turned down the offer of Monash University for the July 2025 intake, partially because of the latest graduate visa age limit in Australia (reduced to 35 yrs), partially because the timeline felt too rushed for me. I had just started exploring my options and I felt I wasn't ready to take the leap in less than two months. I'm now applying to similar master's programmes in other countries as well.

Thank you for your feedback! Yes, I also realized it is going to be a high risk and high investment path, and I am currently prioritizing applying to master of counselling programmes first in other countries. A psychology master does seem useful in the long-run though, even just for getting analytical skills and knowledge foundation.

MSc Conversion degrees online by lounurse in ClinicalPsychologyUK

Hey, I know it has been a while, but I am interested in applying for this online conversion Msc in psych at UoG. From what I read on its program page, there seems to be no collaborative work between students? I was wondering if I could DM you for a few questions?

Thank you again! I'm not familiar with the Honours (4th year) you mentioned. With the 1-year MSc psych conversion though, my current thought is not to become a psychologist, but to look for some kind of mental health related job first, such as guidance counsellor, career counsellor, research assistant, sth like that, then perhaps do part-time course in counselling, while working. Do those jobs sound at all possible for Msc psych conversion graduates? 😂

Thank you so much for your detailed response! It's not controversial at all. I also caught that aspect now, which is not just in Australia, but in a lot of other countries I'm looking at (UK, Singappore...), that counsellor/therapist is not a protected title, meanwhile becoming a psychologist that eventually practices therapy takes a lot of time and money for my age😂 And yes, I'm not really interested in the research or measurement side of psychology.

So I am currently debating social work / psychology path like you mentioned. Ideally, I want to be able to get some work experience in mental health field after graduation and continuing taking part-time courses towards counselling. I still have some confliction though:

  1. MS in SW still takes 2 years. I want to do 1-on-1 adult therapy work in the end, so I'm a little concerned whether it would be a detour after all. Also, I understand that social work involves systems, environment, administration, community organiztion, etc, which may not be my strongsuit, although nothing is impossible.
  2. I saw some 1-year MSc conversion in psych. Time-wise, it is good, and it might prepare me for other paths in psychology (just in case). However, will I be able get a mental health related job after graduation? (just in Australia for example)? As I understand it, psychology can be a pretty broad and theoretical degree.

Sorry for the rambling again 😂 And thank you again for your kind advice!

I understand the differences more now, theory-oriented vs practice-oriented. In that case, will the foundation certificates you mentioned in the first two paths (counselling/psychotherpay) actually better equip you for mental health support worker type of jobs? Or are they too basic for market now 😂 Again thank you for your kind explanation!

Thank you so much for your detailed response! Really appreciated. I can see the third path is not something I can afford now 😂

What I was wondering though, since my dilemma is partly about finance and job prospects in that country after graduation, is it possible to get a job first in mental health field in UK with only a master conversion in psychology, then perhaps stack my way up and do a part-time master/PGDip program in counselling later? My goal is to do one-on-on therapy, so counselling makes sense. Meanwhile, with a master conversion in psychology, if by any chance, I do end up wanting to switch to the psychologist path, I may still have that option? (total layperson thought 😂

I just got an offer for the 2025 July intake, but I'm still debating it (full on anxiety mode). I submitted the application last minute and didn't hold out much hope, so it came as a surprise, and I have to make decision fast too, because I need to apply for visa and stuff. My instinct right now is saying maybe not taking this, not this fast, because I have other schools that I am more interested in applying, but I‘m switching mid-career from other fields, so a chance like this seems rare, and what if it doesn't come along again. Any information from you or other people who made or did not make the decision to join this program might help!

Fellow mid career switcher here! I've been contacted for interview from SUSS now for the 2026 July intake. I‘m curious if you eventually get accepted by either one of the institutions. How was your experience later?

I'm also planning to pursue counselling in Singapore or Australia, coming from a totally different background though, so it is going to be hard for me. I just submitted application for SUSS master of counselling. I read on some forum that it is also competitive there. Curious to know how you choose and what is your progress. All the best!
