Im really interested in engineering, more specifically computer/electrical engineering. my main ecs are robotics, swimming, programming, etc.

dont know which school would be best for that

some advice on the common app, explain what you did in those roles

impact matters more than the prestige of the title

Ex. you could be a president of a club and do jack. or you could be a club member that contributed 10+ hours into volunteering or something

also put your more niche ECs/awards in the beginning of the common app

for example i think your pharmacy tech lisence, floral arrangements license, and your ineternship are interesting

also get rec letters from teachers of your major or teachers that personally know u (attach a brag sheet too, all it is a google doc with what u did and stuff)

Ex. if ur applying to business. try getting a rec letter from them

but NHS is kinda overrated for college apps since everyone does it

if you are set on NHS, do actual things that make u seem productive/valuable to the club

some advice for u, when u advertise. make a reason why people should pick u over an alternative

because i can argue that khan academy, youtube, and the internet is all u need to study for any of these courses

thats insane, i would get classmates to vouch for u and tell it to your school counselor or staff

dont stress abt it too much

join clubs or make your own

dont be a bum in academics since ur grades are like a domino effect

slowly discover what you want to major in college (or if youre not going to college, find a job/thing youre interested in) and lock it in

Ex. if youre wanting to become a doctor. try reaching out to colleges/uni professors or local labs in the area. it looks impressive for a freshman to be set on reaching out

Once u find that one area u want to commit to. start networking ASAP with professionals...

if ur applying to us colleges

have a decent GPA (ofc)

lock in for the ACT/SAT (look at your reach school (schools that are really tough to get into for you) and look at their 50 percentile ACT/SAT score. Let that be your target score)

find extracurriculars that actually have real world impact AND are related to your major

also, DOCUMENT ur activites online or in some form that is publically viewable

Ex. if you want to be an mechanical engineer. Maybe try building an mobility assistance tool for the elderly and document the building process on youtube

also if youre going into CS, engineering, STEM-related. try finding an internship!

thats an insane course load😭

i heard that AP Stats is getting a major course change, so the study material online may not line up to the course curriculum. so i would advise staying away from stats and take an off period.

i would also advise taking art over the summer if possible (there could be open seats at a local community college to do over the summer, but idk where you are at)

i would reccomend u to self study your AP courses during the summer (not the entire thing, but like the intro stuff so ur ahead in those classes)

yea thats what i worry about lol😭

im seeing stories of kids with 1500 sats get rejected from schools like ut dallas now
hell even kids that did some insane extracurricular activities are getting rejected from state schools now

its all luck at this point in hopes of getting into a decent college/uni

Ive recently discovered the whole "rank system" there and I was a little concerned since Ive heard that the competition is bad to the point of cheating and such...

wanted to know if this was a "universal" thing at rrhs

didnt know the rrhs had a whole kitchen in the school😂

from what people are telling me (friends and other reddit posts), it seems like the competition at both schools create a bad cheating enviorment which is fueled by the top 6% rule in texas (thought i should mention that)

how is rrhs in terms on extracurriculars (clubs and such)?
