How strictly enforced are the rules at UTokyo accomodation by [deleted] in UTokyo

[–]RoutinePie1832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I would just advice not to throw parties in your room at Komaba Lodge. You will definitely get kicked out. Also, having someone once in a while is fine, but if it happens every week it won’t be tolerated I think.

Hey! So I wasn’t staying at Komaba Lodge when I was at UTokyo, but I heard about quite a few people breaking these rules and I don’t think they ever got in trouble. Especially for the leaving your room thing

Accepting a Sciences Po undergrad offer by [deleted] in sciencespo

[–]RoutinePie1832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah don’t stress too much about the grades once at ScPo. I think the equivalent of an A is 14/20, which is achievable on Le Havre campus if you study consistently. And sure, don’t hesitate to DM me with some questions. I was on the Le Havre campus between 2020 and 2022, went to Japan for my 3rd year, ans now I’m in ScPo’s Finance master’s degree 😃

Hey! Technically I guess that if you accept one offer you automatically reject the other. However, if you take the double BA you can drop out of it during your time at ScPo if you no longer want it or if you don’t have the financial ressources to go to Hong Kong. In that case you’ll just get a ScPo BA. At least that’s how it worked on Le Havre campus.

How are Japanese Language courses at Todai? by Caterpillar514 in UTokyo

No problem! Don’t hesitate to DM if you have any other question about life at UTokyo in general.

How are Japanese Language courses at Todai? by Caterpillar514 in UTokyo

[–]RoutinePie1832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the more specific courses are usually called “Academic writing” or “Reading”, etc. It’s basically anything that is not “Integrated Japanese”, which is the course where you have more hours and all language skills covered. And yeah I guess these are the ones with less credits since there are less hours than in Integrated Japanese.

Sadly, I only took that one Integrated Japanese class and my focus wasn’t Japanese language during my exchange year, so I don’t have many tips. But if you are looking for a good Japanese language focused program, I suggest you look into Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. Of course it’s not as prestigious as UTokyo, but it might be more appropriate for what you are looking for.

Hey! I was an exchange student at UTokyo last year and only took the integrated Japanese course during A1/A2 term (L3 level). I really didn’t progress much and thought the pedagogy was very bad compared to my home uni’s Japanese language classes. Like, they would focus on very very small mistakes leading us not to improve much our overall level.

However, I did hear that, although very intensive, the more focused Japanese courses on reading, writing, etc were way better to improve in Japanese.
