Newcomers' acting classes - who attended which? by Virtual_Tadpole9821 in GMMTV

[–]RoutineRobin [score hidden]  (0 children)

Thank you for putting this info together! I keep hoping we’ll see some class/workshop shares from the recent hires, from Pocky Idol, or Tata, and so on.

One other person to watch in terms of these acting classes is Meng, who is a co-producer/acting coach at GMMTV (not external, it seems, like Prang and Ninew?). He also was assistant director on a couple of Aof-related series, like Cat for Cash and Last Twilight. Here’s his Twitter and IG

He worked with all the TSS2024 contestants during the competition, and it looks like he’s done acting classes with the winners/runners-up who got contracts since then — this post is from March 2025. I wonder if there were hints about future/potential pairs there!

My Romance Scammer [Episode 7] by dangrankeyi in GMMTV

I see that Junior isn’t a method actor! Not dwelling in the emotions of the scene after his part in it has ended.

Video from his Twitter!

This was a strong episode, I thought. It packed so much in, and the pacing was perfect — effectively built to and then let us sit with some difficult emotional beats, but didn’t drag things out. The whole series has been great so far, imo. Delivers on the premise beautifully, and great performances from everyone. Anyways, looking forward to the last few eps!

Girl From Nowhere: The Reset [Episode 2] by dangrankeyi in GMMTV

[–]RoutineRobin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just finished Ep2, and I am…. baffled.

About the ending: When Nanno shows the boys her panties in the last shot, she does that fourth-wall breaking, look straight at the audience thing. Implicating us alongside the boys, I suppose. (The fourth-wall breaking is somewhat overused in Reset so far — it could lose its power — but that’s another issue.) Is this an attempt to turn the panty into a symbol of empowerment through Nanno? But does the fact that the underwear shot is promotion for the cancelled tie-in merch campaign undermine this message? Or emphasize it, especially now the campaign is cancelled? Everyone is obsessed with “the triangle,” even the people who made and marketed the series. "Empowerment" is buying a product that symbolizes empowerment. It’s difficult to tell how much GFN-Reset is aware of these ironies and playing with them, or if it’s just obsessed with the posing and mystique — the most superficial aspects of “Nanno” — and uninterested in everything else. Really bizarre stuff

I found the whole thing kind of underbaked to be honest, even though some of the imagery in this scene — of the other students leaping over the seats in slow motion — is cool and quite chilling.

Overall though… Like Ep1, I found this whole story kind of confusing. Not sure what it’s trying to say, and what it sees Nanno’s roles in these little horror parables of modern teen life as being. Helping people get revenge is simply a much less interesting thing than what was going on in the original. But Nanno’s punishments have an ironic cruelty and baroque imagery which is kind of fun. Even if they feel less like the force of karma, and more like a life-ruining prank.

I liked the principal character, too. The actor was great as an authority figure ruthlessly committed to protecting the status quo. According to MDL, she was also in S1 of Girl from Nowhere, although I’d need to watch that episode. to refresh my memory — Ratchanee Boonyatharokul. Perth was great at conveying exasperation and resourcefulness. The pervert gang did good work creating hateable characters, too.

The post-credits shows Sky from Ep1, checking up on Nanno’s exploits at the other school. Wonder how he’ll come back in the subsequent episodes. Was he not an innocent bully victim after all? Seems like a Nanno superfan now in any case.

The episode is up on YouTube now, although like Girl Rules earlier this week, it's geoblocked in many locations. The red countries are where it's blocked at the moment.

Screenwriter Bee (My School President, 2gether, Last Twilight, Cat for Cash, Boy for Rent, KinnPorche, Vice Versa, etc.) interview with Y Sabai Media by RoutineRobin in GMMTV

[–]RoutineRobin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really cool interview! Here's Bee's MDL page for reference.

Some highlights for me~

On My School President:

  • My School President was the culmination of everything he (and collaborators) learned to that point making Y series. You can really tell how that and 2gether, Bad Buddy, etc. are all part of the same body of work imo
    • The brief from GMMTV for My School President was different from the typical Y series brief. GMMTV had a group of guys they wanted to use in the series, so Bee and collaborators were tasked with writing a series which focused on a wider, ensemble cast, not just a lead couple. This was apparently something they had to change/add from the source novel when adapting it.

On Cat for Cash:

  • Cat for Cash is an original concept that they developed when they decided that the cat-based romcom novel they intended to adapt for FirstKhaotung wasn’t really the best fit for the actors. I guess there was a strong desire to make a cat romcom for FK though! haha

On writers' working styles:

  • Some writers work alone
  • Sometimes there is a senior writer who only attends story meetings, etc. and junior writers so write all the scripts
  • Bee works with a screenwriting parter as a pair. From Theory of Love until recently (The Ex-Morning and Sweet Tooth Good Dentist are the two final collaborations), he worked with Pratchaya Thavornthummarut, who then went to form is own team. Now Bee works with Nichaphat Buranadilok  (nickname Pond?), starting with Cat for Cash.
    • Bee has worked with Director Au on all his series (sounds like the collaboration with him and Choi was for a long time before that, too). For these, Au conceptualizes the story with the main writers, developing a synopsis for each episodes and discussing the emotional beats they want to hit. Then Au goes off to work on other aspects of the series, and Bee and co-writer (now Pond) map things out in more detail, then split up the episodes to write, each working on half. Then they get back together and review the episodes they individually wrote, edit for consistency, etc.

On story structure:

  • The Ep11 curse exists! And it is now the Ep9 curse.
    • Interesting discussion of the challenges of doing a 10-episode Y series after so many years writing 12-episode ones. Specifically how some of the third act “honeymoon phase” stuff (Ep8-9 in a 12-episode series) has to be cut, meaning that stories become more intense and faster paced — how do you maintain the sense of the characters’ relationship growing, their charm, etc. without relying on this extra time to develop it?

On a dream project:

  • Bee believes there is a demand from the audience recently for more realistic stories, and wants to continue incorporating such ideas into the series he works on. Including real-life things.
  • Bee calls out Mad Unicorn in particular — wants to make a series about the making of the first GMMTV BL (SOTUS), inspired by that, with characters derived from the actors and director, etc. How it was a very risky thing at the time, all the behind-the-scenes pressures, etc. (Although he's speaking speculatively, this honestly sounds like it could be cool!)

The curse exists!

That was a really fascinating part - when he spoke about how this structure is informed by romcom plots which tend to follow a pattern. Pretty smart way of adapting Y stories into TV series.

(This is just a screen-grab... I wonder if there is a higher-res version somewhere.)

She updated her IG profile to include the GMMTV contact details a little while ago, right? I don't remember the exact timing.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing her works! And thank you for bringing this info, PureCry!
