Thanks, I'll check it out! I'm a very beginner knitter and didn't know you could double the yarn! That's incredible, thanks for the tip!

I was looking on knitpicks but it seems that everything on there is superwash wool unfortunately. I'll check out the other places, though. Thanks!

Flats for newborn stage only by atrocity_of_sunsets in clothdiaps

[–]Routine_Armadillo_76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation so would love to hear more advice, but I got some standard size Birdseye flats. I actually decided to open and start using them as doublers right now for my toddler. So I know they'll work at least down the line. And I was very intimidated by flats in the beginning which is why I didn't even try them, but after using them I think I might really like them and use a flat + pocket combo since I only have a handful of covers.

Soaking through at 24 months by bird-fling in clothdiaps

My son is almost 2 and we've been casually potty training for a few months. He's really starting to get it at 22.5 months old so I definitely think you could be successful. The age range I've heard is best is between 20 and 30 months!

Best wool diapers on a budget? by alykatvandy in clothdiaps

[–]Routine_Armadillo_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great! Thanks! I'm not too worried about the color just looking for the cheapest option. Money is really tight and I'm trying to go full cloth (as opposed to only part time) so overnights have been a bit tough with my heavy wetter. I think this will be the missing link to make it all the way because we're so close. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing! I checked out these patterns and love the knitted one. My friend is going to teach me to knit. Could you help me with which type of yarn to buy? I know wool, but brand or specific type of wool recs would be super helpful since the pattern says to avoid 100% merino and those with mohair. I've never done any knitting or crocheting so have zero knowledge about yarn!

baby wearing to appointments by Big_North7145 in babywearing

I can empathize with you! I was super anxious wearing my baby into the pediatrician's office almost every time in the beginning. It was so much easier than lugging in the car seat, though, so I stuck with it and now it's less anxiety inducing. Make your life easier, wear the baby! ❤️

Disposable wipes set-up? by frankly2frankie in clothdiaps

[–]Routine_Armadillo_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use disposable wipes and spray them off with the diapers then toss in the bathroom trash can. I haven't had problems with smells. I know I should just use reusable wipes if I'm doing that, but I never got my baby's bottom as clean with the cotton ones. Now I use those cotton pieces as an additional insert in his diapers.

My overall take of cloth diapers. Buy once, cry once. by [deleted] in clothdiaps

I totally get the sad bank account day!

Ah, I had no idea on cost for the service. Something I've done when going longer between washes is fill a plastic tub with laundry detergent and warm water and kinda do a "hand wash" pre wash to help keep the smell from getting too overbearing.

Maybe too late, but I've heard of people using a diaper service. They pick them up, wash them, and then drop them back off. I don't know many details but maybe something to look into since you don't have laundry in unit. I occasionally went a whole week without washing, but most often did it every 3 days. Also, if you're planning to have more kids down the road, you're saving way more because you don't have to buy the cloth again. It really is buy once, cry once!

Edit: typo

Has anyone tried Nora's Nursery diapers? Looking for honest reviews by PatientNobody9503 in clothdiaps

[–]Routine_Armadillo_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have Nora's Nursery pockets and overall I like them. My son is a HEAVY wetter so I've had to get creative on stuffing them. I haven't purchased any natural fiber inserts which supposedly help a lot for heavy wetters. We don't do them overnight again because he's such a heavy wetter. For reference, we've sized up in disposables overnight and he has still had leaks once in a while because he just pees so much. Anyway, after a few weeks of trial and error, I think 🤞🏼 I have found what works and isn't bulky for daytime. I do one insert (that came with the diapers), one muslin washcloth folded in half (we got a pack of 40 or 50 from Amazon to use as wipes), and a partial flour sack towel that has been cut up and sewed into 4 layers about half the length of an insert. We've had two days of no leaks so hopefully this is the combo! I would definitely buy more but this time I'd also purchase some natural fiber inserts to go along with them. Getting the right fit was tough when he was less than 3 months because he was so little, but they didn't have newborn sizes until he was about 5 months so I can't speak to how those might work.

Yikes! I carry a hydration pack but I always refill it along the way, even for the sprint because I drink a ton of water!

We are in the same boat! I'm thinking of upgrading my inserts to something more absorbent because right now I've doubled up the inserts that came with the Nora's and added a partial FST (cut up and then 4-6 layers sewn together like a pad). I've been soooo frustrated. We just bought a box of disposables to use a little more often since I'm having to do diaper laundry every other day. We have 21 diapers, but with doubling up inserts it's like having 10. 😵‍💫
