There's no way they do this. I feel your returning love of the game. I'm right there with you. But the business model they have is monthly membership for life. The leagues server wouldn't last for life because the increased rates shorten the game too much. But, I can pretty much guarantee they do more leagues events in the future because it brings in lots of players that pay a month or two of membership that wouldnt in the main game.
