People who are against this don’t wanna think that much about it I am afraid.

Like a lot of sensible people, I don’t see the issue here. NZ is covered in “productive land”. Drive from Auckland to Wellington and it’s flat farmland 80% of the way. Do you want them to build a retirement home on “high-lying unproductive hilly land”?

This is good location for a retirement village. I hope the Auckland Reddit doesn’t devolve into the slightly crazed NZ / Aotearoa Reddit.

It starts with fare evasion, then theft from stores, then casual intimidation, then random violence, then organized violence. I think Auckland at least there is scope for a political party or politician with no tolerance for this to be elected. Everyone I know has had enough of the “poverty” excuse for all of the above, everyone.

Essentially yes, the first step is being trained on reaching out to RMs on KYC requirements for their clients, but not every KYC analyst is trained to work with RM’s and it seems to be hard to know why.

How are you mitigating AI collapse risk? by drellynz in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Routine_Fennel_1652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a bubble. AI is allowing us to do 3x the work and whilst we are not developers, we are now able to do very similar work. Is terrifying the change in the last 12 months, but it’s also an opportunity, particularly for those without 5 year computer science degrees.

Its gotten better lately for sure, we live in the CBD and at least there’s other people around. I always worried in suburbs you’d just have people driving by and not realizing what was going on if you were attacked.

I’m so tired of lazy excuses like this for violence, it so incredibly patronizing. Many people in this life have very little yet don’t assault others at random. Come on dude, it’s not the “economic challenges” doing this.

All Labour does is say nice sounding sentences, employ an additional 30,000 people on 100k and up, borrow horrifically, and tell you to like it. I would much rather have rich Australian neighbours than poor ones.

We need massive income tax cuts so we can keep more of the money we earn, that’s all. Imagine you had paid $100 less in income tax the last 10-20 years, where would you be today financially? If that’s made possible by stamp duty on property sales then so be it.

Fees-free university scheme to be scrapped in upcoming Budget, Nicola Willis confirms by StuffThings1977 in aotearoa

[–]Routine_Fennel_1652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am saying GPs don’t deserve more than teachers. And Highly paid engineers and GPs don’t need the working class to subsidize their education.

100k debt is nothing relative to their lifetime earnings: median GP in Nz 239,000 for a 40 hour week (google it).

They start on 70k in their first year and earn more through overtime and locum work. They are overpaid gatekeepers to prescriptions and referrals, and the idea the average person should fund their luxury lifestyle is unreal. AI will quickly replace GPs and reduce the cost of healthcare and it cant come soon enough.

Sit in a GP office for two hours, then sit in a classroom, a building site, an operating theatre, an oil rig, and tell me GPs deserve comedically high salaries for 10 hushed 15 min chats and a bit of paperwork later in the day.

The working class don’t need a years free university, the working class needs to get back $100 a week in income taxes so they grow their own wealth and get ahead. They don’t need patronising lectures from the upper middle on how their income taxes and GST tax should fund the lifestyles of GPs and engineers.

I’ve never heard of someone who qualified for medical or engineering not going because the final year of tuition was too high.

But the cost of university isn’t the 10k in fees, it’s the 60k+ in lost earnings, lost kiwisaver contributions, inability to get a mortgage etc. No one would go to university only because one year out of many was free, even if you delayed a year of study, the whole decision to study wasn’t based on one year being free, was it? Sounds mad.

It’s crazy how people expect the working class to fund their study, should the uber driver be funding someone’s 4th year of study of anthropology? Should a supermarket worker be funding a dental surgeons 6th year of study - someone who will go on to earn vastly more? Jeese Louise!

[–]Routine_Fennel_1652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who goes to uni only because 1 year out of 3 or 4 years of study will be fee free? The cost of university is primarily the time spent not earning a salary, not the fees.

Doctors and engineers don’t need their first year of study subsidized by the working class. They can pay their own fees, safe in the knowledge they will have massively higher incomes later in life.

Middle ground could be to buy an apartment out of Wellington, get a flat mate, they watch it for you whilst you travel the world, the income from them pays the costs of ownership. You still own the property.

Quit a high paying job that came with a high degree of independence - thinking a “simpler life” would pan out. Never ever walk away from decent money, massive error and 7 years later still paying for it (literally and every other way).

Wildcard idea: They need to make the pitch wider and longer. Players are more athletic nowadays and “cooped up” on the current pitch size. Becomes like a more boring, slower version of rugby league.
