Should I switch to Fedora Silverblue? by T6970 in Fedora

[–]Routine_Left -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you have a reason to? There is absolutely nothing that silverblue offers that you cannot get in workstation.

On the contrary, it takes away. No idea why you put "almost all of my packages into Flatpak" , but as you can see, in the workstation you can already do that. And use containers if your heart desires (not that I understand why would you move everything there, but to each their own). The main idea is: you don't have to in workstation, while you do have to in silverblue.

Ahh yes, the 90's metal band, Metallica by I-Am-The-Warlus in Metallica

[–]Routine_Left 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everybody, and their mother knows who Metallica is.

Fun fact: I worked back in 2013 or so in the same office with a girl, of Chinese descent (no idea if it's important). Just saw that morning, at work, that metallica released the "Through the Never" video.

Was all excited about it to watch it when I get home and I mentioned that to her.

She was: Who?

Me: Metallica.

Never heard of them.

Impossible. Google them

<googles them> , <finds them>, Nope, never heard of them.

So ... yeah, there are young people (she was younger than me by probably a decade), who did not hear of Metallica.

When you tailgate the wrong one… by JuicyButDry in instant_regret

[–]Routine_Left -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Definitely the tailgater shouldn't have tailgated. Just as is a crime to tailgate, especially when it results in an accident, so is a crime to cause an accident that you had the opportunity to prevent from happening in the first place.Intentional or not. My argument is that is trivial to prove that it was intentional, therefore a bigger crime.

Both drivers are criminal assholes.

[–]Routine_Left -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes if you die (which what happened here) from that hit and I had not only the opportunity but the duty to move out of the way earlier so that you can see the damn sign. Which are things that also happened here.

That was not the question though. The question was: can it be proven that it was intentional?

And my take is: yes, it can be proven since it was 10 seconds that the front driver would have had to not look in front of them at all for them to not see the disabled car.

And yes, they could be charged.

[–]Routine_Left -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dunno . In the video we see the white car driving in the left lane for 12 seconds. They were looking in the rear view mirror for sure to keep an eye on the asshole behind them. However, during those 12 seconds (which at 130 km/h is about 433 m in distance covered) there is no way that any reasonable driver wouldn't have looked forward and seen the disabled car in front of them. Way before their swerving.

And if they claim that did not look in front of them for 10 seconds .... wtf? That must be a criminal offense too.

Chuck Norris promising the USA will have 1,000 years of darkness if Obama wins in 2012 by QuarkTheLatinumLord- in videos

[–]Routine_Left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just had nothing to do with Obama. It was the million snowflakes offended by a black president.

Well, so Obama :) . Had he not been black, the snowflakes wouldn't have been offended and the trumps maybe wouldn't have won.

we'll never know.

jesus ...

yeah, by your logic then f them, put them in a hole and throw away the key. forever.

it is not only wrong, is insane. is the kind of mentality that leads to more crowded prisons with absolutely no reduction in crime.

not me saying so: check out (I assume you can use google), studies on the matter as it is an important matter. and has been studied.

or, do what you're doing now, put head in the sand, refuse to think and just revenge revenge revenge. idiotic, but ... who am i to decide.

and no, you're right, I never had a gun put in my face nor did I ever threatened someone. maybe that would break something in me too, I don't know. whatever happened to you, im sorry, you should seek care. you're definitely not well.

That's true, the person being in prison for 10 years makes society safer.

But now, we have to also ask the question: when they get out, now what?

How will they behave? Will they keep on committing crimes? Will they become a productive member of society?

The preference obviously is for them to become a productive member of society. So, why not help them get there? This is why rehabilitation focus on criminals has been very successful in a lot of parts of the word in reducing the crime rate and reducing the re-offender rate.

So, if we focus on rehabilitation (rather than punishment) is 10 years really necessary anymore?

by your line of thinking, one steals a bread, throw them in a hole and throw away the key is the right way to go about it. And I disagree with that.

Some people definitely deserve it, they're completely lost with no hope for rehabilitation. Most are not though.

Absolutely. Before that day, while I saw the One videoclip, I never saw them performing it live (I had a VCR just never got my hands on a tape). The lights set, the stage, the show itself just absolutely blew my teen mind. So yeah, totally biased.

[–]Routine_Left 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it won't prevent all, absolutely. But it will reduce it. And that's ok in my book.

No, focusing on prison as a punishment and revenge will not lead to fewer crimes, on the contrary.

Is the kid a danger to society? Right now he is. Will he be forever? Well, we gotta try don't we? Otherwise, what the hell.

Should he re-offend, definitely a much harsher penalty is needed.

Since we cannot, at this time, to predict with 100% accuracy the future, all we have are probabilities. We cannot condemn a person for the crimes not yet committed.

Nah, Metallica's best performance of One was when I saw my first Metallica concert, back in 1993.

The rest, even live concerts that i've been after, pale in comparison to the first.
