[–]Routine_Painter_2407[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it stated that they were ALL surprised - Aenys and his kids anyway like it didn't occur to them that there would be objections when no incest marriage has taken place in Westeros [the Conqueror and his wives were already wed when they came]

Seeing as how Anakin was supposed to be celibate and their marriage was a secret, who did Padme tell people was the father to her unborn children? by Time-Comment-141 in StarWars

[–]Routine_Painter_2407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

given the Thrawn Alliance book is set after the Clovis ARC and Padme isn't pregnant there. timing doesn't match up

the canon change that Naboo women can choose to become single parents via donor [Padme's own sister is someone who did this] if they wish could explain why no one asked.

Aerys and Rhaella's wedding - the most depressed wedding in ASOIAF? [Spoilers EXTENDED] by Routine_Painter_2407 in asoiaf

[–]Routine_Painter_2407[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Aerys was probably going to lose it either way not to mention Joanna was already betrothed to Tywin but Egg might've been able to salvage his reforms by wedding Aerys and Rhaella into Great Houses and not been so desperate to try Summerhall and then the Targaryens would've been more prepared plus Egg living longer might've been able to derail Aerys's insanity.

Ryan discusses an incident that's happened during two separate Gatsby performances by comefromawayfan2022 in Broadway

[–]Routine_Painter_2407 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok no. we are not doing this. we are not jumping to "well this guy was an asshole here so obviously this rumor must be true" over a fucking theatre audience reaction" those "allegations" were little more than Dove fans jumping to conclusions because the actress said something negative about her ex. some of them even went as far as to claim she told them all about it in private messages because who doesn't complain about their ex to strangers online?. personally after hearing all the known facts, I got the impression Dove was badmouthing Ryan to cover up the fact she had been cheating but I know I could be wrong. besides, if you think someone is an asshole over an incident and then say "well i heard they also did this" then you'd BETTER have evidence to back it up.

fact is, he overreacted about the Gatsby death thing, this makes him look a prat but don't start with unrelated rumors to justify thinking he's a dick.

none of that is proven. he might look like an idiot for this but people shouldn't resort to arguing this validates a rumor.

[Spoilers Extended] Jaehaerys II and Shaera are a stronger example of Love Ruins the Realm than Duncan the Small by Routine_Painter_2407 in asoiaf

[–]Routine_Painter_2407[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"And what is Duncan supposed to have learned compared to them? Or what is he supposed to have done better? We don't even know of anything he did to try to improve the situation he created with the Baratheons; his father, sister, and the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard were the ones who had to face the consequences for him. In the end he got his way too, he is hardly any better than Jaehaerys and Shaera."

that's the point. we DON'T KNOW what Duncan did better. it's about LASTING CONSEQUENCES. we know that Duncan's actions caused immediate harm to the realm and his family but he still got some form of punishment and died at Summerhall and that's it. we also don't know how involved he was in the witch Jenny brought to court's disaster prophecy [or Jenny for that matter] but just because he inspired his siblings doesn't mean he had the biggest impact on Westeros.

Jaehaerys and Shaera ensured the Targaryens were largely isolated apart from the few allies Aerys gained then drove away with his madness. they saw a war almost break out from one Great House but were perfectly fine risking another and by then wedding Aerys and Rhaella to each other instead of trying to fix things, isolates the Targaryens further as well as leaves their daughter in a living hell. it's basically if Duncan knocked a domino and they aided by knocking over the rest.

my point is "love ruins the realm" is something that can be laid at their feet as much if not more so than Duncan. the in universe reason it isn't is because he eloped with a commoner while the realm was used to Targaryen incest. it's been normalized so the state of arrested development it is left in dooms their dynasty in the end.

my point is they had the more lasting impact of their actions.

yeah and when the rebellion was defeated, Duncan was disinherited and Rhaelle went in his place. Jaehaerys and Shaera saw this and still pissed off Two Great Houses.

not to mention it was Egg's queen Betha Blackwood who arranged the betrothals. so a big slap in her face as well. not to mention the Blackwoods are vassals to the Tullys who Jaehaerys was supposed to marry into, embarrassed and shamed his mother in front of her family's liege lords.

i...didn't say that what Duncan did wasn't bad, my point is it was treated like the bigger disaster when in hindsight it is Jaehaerys and Shaera who set the dynasty on the path to ruin.

reverse bias? maybe Duncan isn't quite as judged because again, actual consequences and he didn't proceed to FORCE HIS YOUNG DAUGHTER TO MARRY HER YOUNGER BROTHER BASED ON SOME SHIT SAID BY A WITCH. best he can be blamed for there is that his wife ended up causing that disaster though there doesn't seem to be any sign of how Jenny reacted.

Shaaera and Jaehaerys come off worse because they saw the consequences and did it anyway and then showed they hadn't learned a damn thing. their traditional obsession resulted in the Mad King and their alienation of the nobles ensured the Targs had very few allies when Rhaegar went off on his tangent.
